My best guess is that it is a software glitch showing fish below the bottom. Does Humminbird have multiple beams? And the just don’t have the stitching totally cleaned up. Maybe it could be rocks or a drop off affecting it also. I don’t remember seeing this on the Garmin Livescope.

If your budget allows I would get a Garmin LSV 34 and build your own ice bundle. This video is a couple of years old, but the guy does a good job explaining the different models. Garmin has come out with some newer models since this video but the naming is similar. The image with the chart is from the video. If I was going start from scratch I would build my own ice bundle buying the pieces as JoeMX1825 recommended. During the black Friday sales you should be able to get a Echomap Ultra 106xsv for about $1000. I think that is the best bang for the buck with better Display Resolution and small enough to fit in the ice bundle.

I caught a 32.25″ on Lake of the Woods Last Sunday. It weighed 11.25 pounds.

Jay goes over his setting at the 13:45 minute mark in the video. They work well for me most of the time.

Anyone else following the NWT in Spring Valley? I see a couple MN guys are top of the pack after day one. Hoyer leading with 12 pounds, 15 ounces. Courts about a pound behind him. Sure seems like the battle of the small fish over there but still a interesting contest. And those boats. Dang are those things powered and decked out. Live weigh in is at 330 again today.

Here is part 1 of the extra coverage of the tournament.

Yesterday Hoyer said one mic was for the NWT footage and the other mic was for a company documenting / promotional video. I am sure he will put it on social media when it is available.

This is just a 2 day. The leader board was still set on the championship from last year yesterday.

Not to derail the thread but I have another oil question. I have two polaris snowmobiles and was always told to run the polaris oil. But it is now like $70 a gallon and I have to drive 40 miles to get it. If I run Amzoil interceptor that I can get way cheaper and close to home am I giving anythhing up?

    Thanks!

Rick, myself and many friends have used Amsoil Interceptor with great results for many years.

Amsoil has a look up vehicle application on there website that will tell you what type of oil they recommended.

What about Day 3? Is it out yet? I can’t find it.

They have been putting the new days up once a week on Monday evenings.

Why not just use the no ethanol 87?

That’s a pretty rare find, at least in my area. Some marinas have it, but that’s the only places I’ve ever seen it.

Some of the newer Kwik Trips have no ethenol 87. Osceola and Somerset, Wisconsin. I was surprised to see it.

I finally got to spend some time using my LVS34 also. I agree with everything you say. It is an absolute blast to vertical jig with. I look forward to using it for casting also. I used my LVS32 some also with the 20.00 firmware. The firmware may have been an improvement with the 32, but I would say the 34 is at least the 30 to 40 percent improvement that I have been hearing about.

An easy way to do it with line counter reels and heavy snapweights is to stop your boat in whichever depth you’re going to fish, set your line counter to zero, attach a heavy snapweight just above your crankbait and drop it vertically over the side. The depth that you see on your line counter when it hits bottom is the number that you want your line counter set to when trolling. It makes no difference whether your line counter is calibrated accurately or not.

Let your crankbait out the number of feet that you read on your line counter when your snapweight hit bottom, attach your snapweight and let the same number out again. With most crankbaits using those numbers, if you troll at 2 mph, you’ll catch walleyes.

It makes no difference whether your line counter is calibrated accurately or not doing it this way.

Karry, Thanks for posting the article and your comments. I am going to try this more this summer on Lake of the Woods.

Yeah my G Loomis GLX is in another league compared to a Legend X. I think alot has to do with how you pair it with a reel and line. Stradic ci4 and 6 lb fireline.

Same here. I think my G Loomis GLX is awesome! It is hard to get myself to use anything else. I wish I had a bunch more.
