Any chance the rips are coming from fish trying to eat the minnows through the bags? I always thought he bait tammers were more for livewells and the plastic minnow buckets for in the lakes.

Based on how many pike bite my bass chatterbaits, I bet it would work great. But they’re pretty spendy to throw for pike without using a wire leader.

I had a bent propshaft repaired at Formula Propeller in MG. I’m not sure how far into the internals they go, but they did a great job on mine.

Full show in Indiana. Whether you think it’s worth the drive or not, I’d do it again a hundred times to see what I just witnessed. It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.

I’m heading to Indiana to watch it. Went to Missouri for the last one. It was awesome enough that the whole family instead we go again. It truly is amazing, and hard to explain.

Formula Propeller and Marine. Maple Grove / Corcoran area

Agreed! Formula is where I go. They also do really nice boat rigging.

I would want to know the exact reasons for the proposed ban. If it is because too many people are catching and keeping their limit of fish, than that is more of an issue with the size of the limits than with the way the limits are caught. If the concern is hooking mortality, than I would suggest, limiting the ability to target fish at whatever is deemed to be the depths for unacceptable mortality. All FFS and 360 does is makes people more efficent ant getting to the already existing rules and regulations. It is a brand new argument to say that people are now just too good at catching fish, vs that people are breaking the regs. It’s a bizzare new argument.

I just orded from TKI. It is expensive, but it is a complete kit. I originally bought the Mega Live Ice Kit, then ended up needing to buy a new pole to mount to the boat. I bought the Giegertec mount, which was quite spendy. And it has been a real let down. It’s not quick or simple to deploy and pull in, and over the course of a year’s use, I wore down two of the three tension points so all the teeth are gone. Now it’s pretty much useless. So for being ~$500 for two poles, a mount, and setting it up, I have to basically start over. Now for $540 the TKI kit is totally complete for open water. I am really excited to get it on the boat.

I thought it was interesting. The application from it, that I am most interested in seeing come to reality is a wireless boat network. If we could network the transudcers and head units with some form of wifi or bluetooth, it would simplify boat rigging and significantly increase customization and decrease cost.

I am going to mount it on the forward right side of the front casting deck. But since it uses the Alumatrack mount, I am planning to move it to the back of the boat some times.

Are they releasing all the fish right away for this tournament?

I have a 185 Competitor and my buddy has a 175 trophy. If you are planning on mostly walleye fishing, the trophy would probably be better. It has a bigger aft section. The competitor has a bigger front deck. More set up for casting up front. Both are great boats.

Anyone else find the Bassmaster website to be really hard to navigate?

Not really. Then again I don’t access it often. Normally just to watch live coverage and to follow a elite tourney. What all are you trying to navigate to?

I just tried to search who was competing in the Open starting tomorrow. I can’t find the angler list. It is great during a tournament, but in between it has been hard for me to find things I’m looking for.

A baitfeeder reel would help. They have super loose drag that makes an audible clicking noise, so you will be alerted to the line being taken even if you’re not watching it.

I just bought a Synthetic Ultra 8″. I haven’t been able to cut any ice yet, but I can tell you it is really, really light. And for under $200 it’s way cheaper than a full new auger setup.

Before installing insulation, add rafter vents. Their super easy to install and will help with airflow after insluation is added.

It sounds like the Fusion would be the rod from the Tuned Up lineup if you choose to go that route.

Maybe a decent bait cooler? The Bait Crate is solid and a little under your price range. Or the small Engle, just above your range.

It lists it as 12V in the title and 18V in the description. Any idea which it really is?

It is the 18V – I’ve had one through two ice fishing seasons running an 8″ Lite Flite auger among other drilling chores and it’s been flawless. Incredible abilities especially for the size.
I highly recommend it if you are going to use Milwaukee M18 tools.

    Awesome! Thanks!

Tuned Up Custom Rods is a full custom shop where we can help you design the rod you are looking for and build it for you. Another option is to check out the site http://www.rodseek.com They match customers to custom rod makers around the country based on location, fishing style, and rod preference.

I agree with John. I you are able to make it the St. Paul Ice show this weekend you have the ability to handle all of the major builders and talk to the people building the rods. This is a great way to make a connection with not only the rods but with the people you choose to do buisness with.

Agreed, go straight to spinning. Harder at first, but way better in the not to distant future. I personally would recommend spooling with 10# braid. It is was easier to cast and it won’t develop memory, so if you only use the rod occasionally, you don’t have to worry about the line being junk. I like some of the 6ish foot Cabela’s rod combos. If buying seperate, it’s really hard to go wrong with a Pfluger President reel.

I have been very happy with my Strikemaster 40V. This year, I am adding an 8″ Razor Scout with my Milwaukee Drill. I am really excited have it’s lightweight capabilities.
