Still looks like pretty tame water levels for this time of year. Another 4 to 5′ wouldn’t be bad. Easier to see the current seams then.

The flow is up pretty good. I was surprised how fast it was moving. You won’t have any problem finding good seams. I agree though…it would be great to see the level around 8’ for awhile. That’s always seemed like the sweet spot for me.

Water was still really dirty and full of junk yesterday. I scratched out a few fish but it was tough sledding. Water was 51 degrees and the flow is high.

The rain this weekend might keep the water dirty but the bite should start to pickup. Fish are starting to drop back to post spawn spots.

I haven’t been on 2 much this spring but earlier this week they still hadn’t spawned on 4. Some were spewing eggs but some still had hard bellies. My guess is another few days before the big migration back downstream starts.

To Jeff….they spawn downstream, too. Not all the fish migrate up. We caught a few decent females a couple weeks ago just north of 494. Yours was probably spawning in that area in the background of your pic.

I never really considered the husky jerk series to be a true jerkbait. Mine were more of a trolling-style crank bait. I honestly am not sure kind of neutral buoyancy they have right out of the box.

I am generally just not a fan of the rapala jerk baits because they are cheaply made and the stock trebles constantly bend and need replacing when I use them. If I had to select one I would use the shadow rap series. As previously mentioned, they introduced a new one this year called the mavrick which I have not heard anything about yet.

My shadow raps immediately get replacement hooks because of the stock are junk. The lure itself is money though. They work

Shadow rap deeps also work great for walleyes on wing dams. They are a great all around bait.

I don’t mind the bumper boats. I don’t do the rainy but usually pool 4 a few times in the spring. Most guys are in a pretty good mood and it’s fun to jaw with other boats a bit.

After this coming weekend the rivers will be basically empty so a few weekends a year doesn’t bother me.

My buddy has a 1990 Silverado half ton that’s a single cab, long box (8’) Not a spot of rust on it…RWD with a straight 6.

I think it’s a unicorn. Not too many of those that haven’t rusted into the ground.

I have a st croix triumph that works very well. 4 piece…might be a bit longer than 16” per though. I think I got it at Scheels for about a $100.

Hutch Tackle has them. If you are on pool 4 they will have them at Everts.

I don’t like September up there. Weather can be all over the board and fish are in transition from the basin to the river or onto shallow structure. It can be a real crap shoot.

I think late May, early June or October are the best times of year. October is also a great time to get on big smallies on shallow structures.

Need the water to dirty up a bit. Day bite is going to be tough til then.

We were out a couple weekends ago and got a handful of nice fish but all came right at dark. Dragging plastics way behind the boat was what worked.

The sauger bite on 4 is good right now.

I use wraptor tackle bags as my “go bags” when I’m jumping in someone else’s boat. I throw one in an old back pack and that works great. I have a fishing backpack I got as a gift but it’s kinda heavy and overkill when I’m packing light.

The rough fish and walleyes hang out together. We’ve dropped cameras down on the big schools and there are little pods of walleyes in there. I believe when you find the big pods this time of year they are wintering and not aggressively looking for food. The walleyes mixed in are the same. They are chilling in the deeper and warmer water.

You don’t ride a 60? I’m 5’10” and this 56 is almost too big for me. Maybe the bianchi’s size different but you should come test ride this.

There is never a bad time to be out there but I agree with Mike…this is a hit and miss time of year. I was out last weekend and it was a grind but we put a few decent fish in the boat. Post spawn is the best time.

Acupuncture helped mine out a bit. I’m a believer in it for a variety of reasons so it’s worth a try. You have to give it time though…like 6 appts in 6 weeks kinda thing.

High blood pressure is also a cause of tinnitus so that’s worth looking into. If you have high BP that’s not treated with meds getting on some meds may help.

My dad has had it for 30 years…working at the airport without ear protection. Only real cure has been hearing aids but that took awhile to get dialed in to match the frequency of his tinnitus.

FedEx are subcontracted drivers whereas UPS are union and company employees. Makes a big difference when it comes to taking responsibility.

The police report thing seems to be a huge pain in the ass. Sometimes getting on Facebook or LinkedIn (if you have an account) and stating what happened then tagging them will get a quick response. FedEx has teams of people watching social media and they tend to jump on negative posts quickly.

The Plano box works…then I double plastic bag them just in case. Nasty stuff but there are times it works great.

Great time out there…been a couple years since I participated but it’s always a good time.

I’m surprised we took second place with 99”…as Buschman said there are a ton of nice 17-20” fish but the bigs have had lockjaw recently. I’ll bet as the water cools the feed bag comes on.

Thanks Mike and John…appreciate you guys putting on the event.

Book now….that’s prime time so the guides fill up fast.

I’d see if you can fish with any of the guys out of Hawks Cay. I did a couple days inshore with Mike Odell and he was great.

Nebraska with 4 turnovers…they invent ways to lose games.

We left the game early cuz our daughter was tired. Glad I missed the last few minutes.

Something seems off with your trailer. Lotta guys running your same setup without these issues. Have you had the boat back into the dealer to look at it?

Those batteries don’t add a ton of weight if you just swapped to larger. A kicker weighs about a hundred pounds. Guys put heavier coolers in their boats and roll down the road.

Does the boat sit on the trailer correctly? With the kicker off the back maybe you need to get that weight forward on the trailer? Are you contacting all the rollers correctly so the weight is distributed?

I’m assuming you looked at all the possible issues but having to add an axle for a boat that’s not that heavy seems crazy.

3500# axle and springs doesnt take too long to get over weight…

    Boat-1,780 lbs.
    Kicker-120 lbs.
    Main-510 lbs.
    4 AGMS-272 lbs.
    Full tank-245 lbs.
    Terrova-72 lbs.

All of that not counting the trailer is 2,999 lbs and I have way too much crap I put into the boat for trips. Literally everything is stuffed to the gills.

The 185 is offered in a single and dual axle, but the 195 which only weighs 25 lb more at 1805 lbs is only offered in a dual axle.

Boat appears to sit on the trailer correctly. It is a bunk trailer and everything aligns. No trip back to the dealer, as it is 500 miles away where we purchased the boat.

Certainly open to options though. I took the boat to the place that said they could add the axle, and I do trust them and their work. They build and customize trailers/motorcoaches. They are the ones who stated the trailer was severly overloaded and it was evident by looking at the suspension, so I trust their opinion. Now, is there a way to address this without adding the axle I do not know. I went in asking about adding the axle, which they said they could easily do. Is there a better option like the torsion?

I think over 19’ in MN you have to have a dual axle. My ranger was the same…single or dual since it’s 18’9”.

I was thinking it was a roller trailer and maybe the boat was a bit off kilter. Since it’s bunks there isn’t much to adjust.

Good luck getting to a workable solution. Sounds you have 2 decent ones..the trailer mentioned above or add the axle. Personally, I’d have an axle added it the shop is reputable like you mentioned.

Flecks record is built on the cupcake schedules and his 11 win year with the players he inherited when hired. I don’t care what the other big 18 teams do or the SEC. This is a thread about Fleck.

He probably is a nice guy.
His players maybe go to school and stay out of trouble.
But he isn’t walking on water nor is the team leaps and bounds better than when he got here.

Oh, lets not forget that he and his predecessor’s have the luxury of recruiting to the largest metropolitan (next to Northwestern & Chicago) area in the big 18 with the most fortune 500 company’s.

Who said he walks on water? His record over the last two years is 18-8….only Michigan and Ohio state are better in the conference. That tells me he has a solid program. They are substantially better than last teams and much more consistent. Remember, we’re 1.5 coaches (Kill and Claeys) from the Brewster era.

MN has and never will be a recruiting hotbed. Nor are the states around us. MN is at a strategic disadvantage against other programs across the country to get the best talent.

Like his antics or not, Fleck has built a solid program.
