Not a bad weekend opener this year on a Wissota. We had a total of about 20 walleyes on the weekend with 4 over 18 and many slot fish. I could not pattern anything finding fish in 2-28fow and every depth in between. We had to work for every fish. 20 fish sounds nice but it took 15 hrs of fishing to make it happen. Our best bite came by dragging jigs with plastic and mid day trolling #7s over 30fow. I never thought I would find open water walleyes on the first week of May.

as for the guy who posted before me – I am sorry it takes so long to get it up. Nice fish none
    the less!

I was hoping to stay closer to Green Bay as we are using the landing out of Green Bay for the NTC in late May.

If you can get your boat under the bridge, spend some time on the north end of Little Yellow. This water flows up hill, very odd

If you took your time dodging ice chunks you could get a boat from the Yellow all the way up the Chippewa. By the end of the day on Monday I think the north side should be wide open. I would bet no ice by opener other then the north facing bays on the south end. This opener is setting up to be historic. That is if you like to catch easy to target spawning pike and walleye in shallow water.

Better then any gas grill – The Big Green Egg! You can cook a pizza in that S.O.B.
Low and slow – gives you more time to drink

We managed one chunky fish off the mud last weekend, This was the only one with girth out of about 25 fish. All of our fish still looked healthy, but this one was a pig.

Don’t forget to pre register your team for the 2013 season. We will be collecting dues at my office (Makquart Motors GM Store – Ask for Aaron Berg)starting last week. There are 10 teams returning from last year and that only leaves 9 more spots.

There was 6 local organizations that would gather to put this event on each year, only three of them showed up this year. UCP would like to hold an event again next year but they need more help.
    Anyone interested can contact UCP.

The key to a good release in this hot weather is to keep the fish in the water at all times. Keep the fish in the net when removing hooks and have the camera guy ready. With a quick pic and back in the water you should have no trouble keeping these fish healthy. Keep the rule of 20 seconds or less out of water and the survival rate is pretty good.

The weather managed to limite my time on the water this weekend. I did see a number of league anglers trying to put something together for Tue night. I hope they had more luck then I did. Managed a few walleye and pike on the troll and better luck on the cast. Water temps topped at 67 Friday night and 62 was the warmest I could find on Saturday. Typical spring pattern. Warmer the water the more active fish you would find. And that is all I will say until Tuesday See ya on the water CVWalleye Members

Big thanks to everyone who took part in the event this weekend. I spent the first part of th morning today with the Boy Scouts running up and down the lake to make sure we left it cleaner then when we came. I am proud to say the lake was spotless even before our clean up started
    Here are your winning fish:

    Northern Pike: 28 1/8 – 27 3/4 – 27 1/8 – 25 3/4

    Walleye: 20 5/8 – 20 – 19 1/2 – 13 7/8

    Bluegill: 8 3/4 – 8 1/2 – 8 3/8 – 8 3/8

    Crappie: 12 7/8 – 12 1/2 – 12 – 12

Like most years the walleye started early and the bite ended by 9am. Pike, gills, and crappie seeamed to bite all day with a good number of 11+ inch crappies and 7-8 inch gills coming to the registration tent.

Ice is just starting to form on the small lake. With any luck it will close up tonight. As of 9am today there was still waves on the big lake. Most of the Yellow has ice.

07 was the first year for the Saturn Outlook, Buick Enclave, and the GMC Acadia. The first few had issues, other then that they have been dead on great. I am a GM sales consultant and I could have chosen anything to put my wife and kids in. I chose the Acadia due to the fuel mileage and it is one of the safer 3rd row crossovers on the road.
If you talk to enough people someone will have issues and more then likley will voice thier opinion. Those seem to be the people that talk about thier vehicles. Take a look at what you see on the road. There are thousands of happy GMC owners out there. I am one of them. Buy American!

Water temp started at 43 in the shallower areas and 46 on the big lake. The bite that has been so good for the past few weeks seems to have changed. I spent a good part of the day soaking suckers in the shallow bays of the Yellow. There was nothing going on at all in these locations. Later i spent a little time outside the Yellow still in the shallows but much clore to deeper water. There are a ton of fish showing up off the big bar in the channel. We had a few takers near the mouth of the Yellow, but we were not able to get a hook in them. Alot of guys fishing musky right now. Maybe one more trip out this year

Water temp last week was 53 and I was reading 46 this week. I am sure the rain Sunday dropped it a few more as well. If this keeps up we will have ice by deer season. I have mixed feeling about hard water I like to ice fish but I love the open water.

2oz bottom bouncers or larger if you want to pick up the speed to cover water. Fire tiger was hot with the sun shining. Anything with a little orange in it works well coming into the fall.

That is about as good as they get for Wissota walleye
I can count on two hands how many walleyes I have seen on Wissota in the mid to high 20’s.
