I will say right up front that I do not know the particulars of the situation being discussed.

But, what would the comments on here be if the school officials and law enforcement would have let the kids go before the situation was safe and there were additional injuries or causalities?

It seems that law enforcement is damned if you do and damned if you don’t. I am glad the other students were able to go home, even if it was late in the evening.

The Fenwick HMX has been mentioned a couple times. The HMX line of Fenwick rods were eliminated in 2023.

Fenwick totally revamped their line of fishing rods so they now have four models of rods.

    Ealgle
    HMG
    Elite
    World Class

Would you be willing to share what firearm you were using and the cartridge/bullets used.

Any guesses why you had a good blood trail for 150 yards and then it shut down?

Are you allowed to use blood tracking dogs where you shot the deer and did you consider this option?

    Thanks in advance

I like it. It is not too spicy or hot (for me anyway) and has some crunch to it.

It’s good on about everything, and it is available at Wal-Mart or through Amazon.

OK, let’s get back to the topic.

I have huge doubts FFS (and like technologies) will ever be outright banned.

HOWEVER, in some fisheries regulations will be altered considerably. I believe crappie fisheries will be the first to see fishing regulation changes.

That could be the Lacy, WA Cabela’s. They have a pretty good marine department.

I’ve read the studies and talked to the DNR’s own scientists, who agreed with the flaws in the hooking mortality studies. They are basically the same issues (hoop nets, lack of a baseline etc.) as the barotrauma ones that Wiebe pointed out. Only difference is Hooking Mortality is only used as a management tool on one lake, Mille Lacs. For good reason, because it is junk science, but junk science is a convenient tool to have when you (the DNR) solely do the tribes bidding on Mille Lacs.

Could you post the links to those studies so we can read them?

    Thanks.

The 2 we had were sperming all over the boat that is how we determined they were male

Probably one of the best ways! ;>)

What is the old saying, “You should have seen the fish I caught the other day, it was so big the photo weighed 3 lbs.”

… Golden Eagles are not carrion eaters like the Bald Eagles…

One of best places to see a Golden Eagle along Interstate 90 in northeastern Wyoming is feeding on road killed deer.

Many times there are both bald and golden eagles on those road kills.

This thread is not about CWD. It’s about covid 19.

Yup, I just read deer and mistakenly thought it was about CWD. My bad.

    My apologies

I don’t think you can get it from actually eating the deer. The virus is spread via respiratory airborne transmission. Maybe just avoid hanging out with a herd of deer indoors. jester

I really held off on getting a electric and just ran my drill. I’m guessing my clam plate will still be my go to for 1 ft or less.
How long do these 5 amp batteries last. Is there a inch per charge chart.

    Bearcat:
I just got a Clam plate (with gear box) and I see you say you will use your Clam Plate “for 1 ft or less”. Why only for 1 ft or less?

Have you had issues drilling in thicker ice with a Clam plate?

    thanks,

A agree with Aaron. Why fish deep to start with?

I also agree, if you are targeting physoclistous fish, don’t fish water deeper than about 30 feet, UNLESS you plan to keep all the fish you catch.

An interesting video that discusses barotrauma:

Are there any other states that take the “kill em all” approach to CWD?

I believe New York did something like this and was fairly successful in stopping the spread of CWD for a while at least.

I do not know what their current situation is.

Just wait for berkley, strike king, rapala, and all the rest, the knockoffs are coming full steam “custom designed” in China.

Just a FYI – the WNC Reaper is a “Made in China” lure.

A friend that has used them told me the hooks on the Reapers he bought are very brittle and break easily. He indicated he was going to change out all the hooks on the Reapers he has in his tackle box.

We, two friends and I, went yesterday and put 11 walleye in the box. They ranged from 15 to almost 23 inches. We caught and released 6 walleye that were under 15 inches and lost maybe 5 or 6 at the boat, so it was a great day of fishing.

This was not in Minnesota, however.

How are you finding the exact corner where public land corners with public land?

If you don’t know or can’t find the exact corner wouldn’t there be a very good chance you would step on private land while crossing?

    Global Positioning System.
I don’t know anybody who hunts public land that doesn’t use OnX or something similar anymore. It’s great technology for us to know where we are and were property lines are at all times.

The problem is those GPS devices like OnX (and similar programs) do not have the precision to find the exact corner of the properties that is required to step from one public land parcel to the other public land parcel. Those programs can be a few to several feet off.

In some cases the corners have a USGS brass cap that marks the corner, but in other cases no USGS marker was placed at the property corners. Where there are no brass caps marking the corners of public lands you are really only guessing where the exact corner is.

Buying a bait caster for my grandson for Xmas. Looks like spending extra on reel is the way to go. Daiwa tatula seems to get good reviews. Stupid question here about which hand for retrieval. I’ve never used a bait caster, use only spinning reels. I’m right handed, so is my grandson, and with the spinning rod I use a left hand retrieve reel. With a bait caster if your right handed is the retrieve also right handed? The tatula has an 8:1 retrieve and it looks like for right hand only. Can’t believe they would make a special reel only for left handed people since most people are right handed. Thanks all for your help, want to get it right for him.

Buy a bait casting reel that cranks (reels) with the same hand as a spinning reel you use.

If you are right handed, cast with your right arm and reel with your left hand. That way you do not have to switch hands after casting.

I never understood why people crank spinning reel with their left hand but crank a casting reel with their right hand, which requires you to switch hands after casting.

    Quote from Bass Pundit:

Cry me a river for the poor lake property owner or fellow fisherman who never considers things from a bass fisherman’s perspective.

If that does not scream entitlement, I don’t know what does!

    I agree with ganderpike.

To Buffalo, I broke a St. Croix on a Silver in Alaska, went to the store in Soldotna and bought a Shimano Clarus for $60. Eventually got the St. Croix resolved but now I have all Clarus rods as they have the sensitivity, the toughness to stand up to days of pounding Silvers and humpy’s and are cheap enough to not have to worry about every cast.

Where we go there is no store close (65 air miles via floatplane) so you need to take a backup rod.

There are a lot of Germans and Austrians that fish the area that we go and I have noticed the last couple years many of them are using Ugly Sticks. I doubt they have issues with those rods.

I guess my experience with St. Croix is a little difference than most. I broke the upper section of a Wild River salmon rod while fighting a coho salmon about 15 years ago in Alaska. And no, I was not “high sticking” the rod.

It just happened that I was going to be in Park Falls, WI about a month after I returned from Alaska. I took the rod into the St Croix headquarters and told them what had happened and I would like to use the warranty on this new rod as it broke on the first trip is was used.

The guy took a look at the rod and said, “It looks like this rod has been shut in a car door.” Needless to say I was mad, the rod had never been close to a car door unless it was in a hard airline travel tube.

After some discussion and him going “back to check with his supervisors” he finally said St. Croix would replace the top section, which would “fix” the rod. All I had to do was pay them $20 so it could be shipped back to me (I live three states west of Wisconsin).

I have not used the rod since, but I am thinking about taking it to Alaska this year. If it breaks this time it is bound for the trash can.

I remember back in the late 1970’s early 1980’s tournament bass anglers, especially those in Arizona, were willing to pay a premium price for mudpuppies.

I have not heard much about the demand for them for a long time, maybe because they are now illegal to use in most places??

The lowest priced rod in the Fenwick line of rods (the Eagle) retails for $69.99 most places. If that rod goes to $300, that is roughly a 330 percent increase in price.

If they raise the price on all their rods by that amount they will not be in business very long.

We have had a Western Tanager at the feeder for a few days and then today a Bullocks Oriole showed up.
