Netguy, I have a polar yard trailer that I don’t use often but when I do it is not treated well and my parents have a polar yard trailer and a 2 wheeled cart (think wheelbarrow but with 2 wheels) and they have all performed very well for us. They have many different size and types.

I believe the ice went out on big Winnie on Monday.

I will also be up in that area for a week starting May 10th. Might have to do an informal gathering?

I have been happy with the 3 piece Fenwick’s that I have. Spinning rod is a 7′ 3 piece ml/m and casting is a 7′ m/mh. So what that means is that each 3 piece rod actually comes with 4 pieces in the case and 2 separate tip sections for the two separate actions listed. Two small packed rods is almost like 4 rods. They have become trunk of the car rods for me and don’t get a lot of use but are sure nice to have. Perfect for backpack in and travel rods also.

    Bearcat,

My vote would be Simms, Blackfish and Striker in that order.

I have Simms, blackfish and guideware at my house if you’re interested in comparing. I won’t be buying any more Guideware any time soon but happy with Simms and Blackfish.

You might be able too get a Blackfish discount if you look around also.

To the original post; I have 3 graphs and run them off of my group 31 AGM starting battery and it has been perfect for the past 4 years or so. I am likely to add another MSI unit and will likely be adding a house batter at some point with that installation. I like Tbruno’s installation if you have the room.

Tbruno, that looks like a very nice and clean installation that provides a lot of options, nice work and thanks for sharing the idea.

Gimruis, if I remember right you have a modv hull and that runs a lot different than an Alumacraft Voyager V hull, so the speeds are not really very comparable.

Bearcat, Check out these on the Scheels website:

Scheels Outfitters Waterproof Gear Bag (I didn’t even try a link, just the product title)

Multiple sizes and colors to choose from depending on what you want to fit in them.

I have one tackle bag that I keep mobile with the basics and then grab plano boxes out of one of the boats and put them in the waterproof bags for larger outings…

How does it compare to what model Nrx? I I have and 872S NRX+ and that is not really a comparison to the windbuster as the NRX is much faster and maybe a bit more powerful. I also purchased a Steeze 7’6″ spinning late last year and have not used it enough either, but also different than the other two rods mentioned. Brian from PunchFishing (local MN Metro bass guy) on Youtube just put up a nice review of Steeze “the one” rod.

I got a deal on the addermine and windbuster late last year so I have spent very little time with them. From your description I think I would go windbuster but both are in deed good rods for you price/discount. Both is a good option also…

Dealership in Lakeville has this posted for a new unit:

    2023 Honda Rancher 4×4 – $5,999

That price does not include TTL. Yeah it is a strait axle and a little less power than you are talking about but it is a new unit close to your used budget…

If you’re daily driving I would go 1/2 ton without question. I have a Chevy 3500 gas truck as it sits in the garage all week and I have a commuter car. Costs more to have two cars but sure is nice being able to pack the truck during the week for a weekend trip and not having to worry about where I park at work. I get 14-18 empty on my 6.0 v8 and between 10-12 pulling. Cheap tabs on a 1 ton are sure nice also.

Sounds like a rabbit problem to me John. Had this problem a few years ago and it is better now after I put some cheap corrugated plastic wrap around the trees but still a few fur balls around that need to be removed. Quality pellet gun is my instrument of choice.

Late edit, the photo that Grouse posted above is almost exactly what I have done and has worked well for me.

    Thanks

Got word that the ice went out on the lake that my parents live on on the East end of the chain yesterday. Earliest they remember in 40+ years.

I replaced some plywood floor with vinyl in my 2008 Lund and I bought my material form Rochford Supply in Brooklyn Park. I believe they sell carpet and vinyl but I am not 100% sure.

    rochfordsupply.com/

Might be worth asking there if they know any installers or recommend any?

They have another 2024 version already available in some retail locations. I have some older versions (5-10 years) and like them a fair amount and these versions are generally a good rod for the money but the handle is a bit think in the hand for my liking.

Skeeter had a booth there with most of the boat lineup. Maybe one or two Yarcrafts and I don’t believe I saw any warriors. Talked to the boat center guys both times I was at the show.

Gitchi, I have a 200 amp panel and plenty of spare capacity so it was easy. Spring of 2021 I happened to be hiring an electrician to run power to a detached garage I built in 2020 so I had an open electrical permit with the city and they added the charger to it. My electrical utility has a half cost off peak charging program so an additional minus meter socket needed to be installed and the power company delivered the meter socket to my door. Electrician installed the new 240 volt breaker, ran it to the meter socket then across the garage to the charger. I bought the charger myself and the electrician hung it and plugged it into the 240 volt outlet that was installed. In total it was around $1500 (including charger and full installation) and the utility gave me $500 rebate and I got some back on taxes that year also. This can vary greatly depending on capacity of your service panel and location of your panel vs where you want your charger, I had a very simple install as it was all in my attached garage. Another priority for me was a pug on charger vs hard wired so if the charger goes bad or I need or want an upgrade in the future the change is easy.

I am a bit out of the loop on what is out there right now but I bought a 2020 Bolt Premier new off the lot in March of 2021 and I paid about $25,000 + TTL. I bought when they were not selling and just sitting on the lot, GM had sold to many to get a rebate, and gas was still $2/gallon. Mine is purely a daily driver commuter car as I have a full sized truck at home for weekends/trips, etc… I have a bit over 35,000 on mine so far and it has been super simple to own/drive. I drive about 250 miles per week just commuting to work. It cost me about $15 a month in the summer and $25 or $30/ month in the winter. Range is easily 250-300 miles in the summer and at the worst it might be 100-150 miles and I run very aggressive snow tires from November thru April. I received all new batteries this spring so my total coverage will be 10 year and 130,000 miles. I figure by that time I hit 10 years I will have save over $10,000 in gas (likely closer to $14,000) with and average of $3/gal gas. The state of MN does charge a $75 fee on tabs every year as I am not paying gas tax and insurance is a bit more than my other commuter car options. So far a good experience and saving a lot of money at the pump. I think the new deal is decent but I don’t know the terms, I have heard of people finding outrageous deals on used Bolt’s with GM replaced batteries (starts a new 8 year 100k warranty) with hail damage and other minor cosmetic issue that still qualified for some rebates and people are getting these cars that are under 50,000 miles for very low prices… That is probably the best deal out there if incentives/rebates are still in tact but I cant speak to what is still available or who is eligible. I am not the most confident in an economy GM car as they don’t have a great track record but so far so good for me.

    Glenn,

Looks like I could get my boat in the water without much work on Williams Narrows webcam…

I see Highbanks says they still have 8″ but it is going to be rough up there for some time.

Sorry I didn’t see this back in October Glenn but I was on the North end of Winny almost all fall.

I am of no help on ice as I am trying to stay off of that slippery stuff and in the boat all winter again this year.

I have braid rods that I use on lakes in the summer and I get at least 4 or 5 years out of by doing what PmB explains. Then my river beater rods that I fish around a lot of rocks and timber and loose a lot of jigs I maybe get 2 or 3 years out of even with flipping the braid as I just go thru line a lot faster due to loosing jigs and retying a lot more.

It was good to meet you on Sunday night Hunter. It wasn’t fast and furious but I was able to find some cooperative fish if I was in the right place at the right time. Might sneak up north for a final trip this weekend and then back down to the river for the Holiday weekend.
