You get a dual beam transducer with the Marcum and a not so well liked preview on the Vexilar. Watch videos on utube of all the ones you think you are interested in. Dedicated ice units have buttons and knobs right up front to make needed adjustments. Boat or so called universal units will require digging into sub menus for things like gain / contrast/ IR / back light and such. This can be very frustrating. I use a LX7 and a LX5 that I bought used many years ago and have not had a problem with either one. I use them on the ice and dock fishing.

March 4, 2019 at 12:35 pm #1840256The same as doing the update, just need to find someone with the old version. I may be able to steer you there, PM me if needed.
December 6, 2018 at 12:34 pm #1815530If you like the instant on low hassle of a good mechanical flasher then the M5 is the best choice. Sharp tru-color, movable zoom, dual beam transducer. Your LX3 should not be lacking in shallow water performance, maybe a bad transducer. I still use an LX5 and have options of LX7,HDS5, FL22HD. Love my LX5.
October 13, 2018 at 4:10 pm #1803529As posted the cone is small that shallow so jig needs to be right under ducer. You can update it or go back out and use the open water mode. Make sure battery is good also. I doubt there’s anything wrong with it other than learning to use it. So basically you were probably reading double the depth so your sensitivity was way high.
January 15, 2018 at 8:56 am #1744325Is there a manual depth mode? Probably have to use that. Alot of these new fancy features have glitches no matter what brand.
October 3, 2017 at 5:30 pm #1718574X 4 Most people don’t even realize there’s still a war going on. We have people deploying just as much now as we did in the years past.
September 29, 2017 at 6:00 pm #1717879Remember the Delorian? Yea Stainless Steel. 50 to 70k for a new truck that will be a rust bucket in ten years. The Aluminum Ford will corrode away as fast as the rest. Wash it underneath.
I have used the old motor oil and diesel fuel mixture as it penetrates the tight areas.September 22, 2017 at 8:24 pm #1716707I haven’t used mine a bunch but no problems with it so far. I don’t have any regrets buying it.
September 9, 2017 at 5:10 pm #1714331LX5 6 or 7.I use the old LX5 and a LX7 and love both. Get a 5 if you want to have minimum setup and awesome performance and a 6 or 7 if you want more techie stuff.
July 5, 2017 at 8:33 pm #1702566From the looking I’ve done the NE South Dakota area was/is my pick for my favorite fish and some ringneck pheasant. Leaving for my summer trip soon to WY MT and ID. Escaping the heat to the mountains. First stop is Encampment WY then La Barge, from there to Butte MT then down the Salmon river in ID. Already tired of cutting the crabgrass in KS.
July 4, 2017 at 10:05 pm #1702392John I’m in the same boat as you with the same thoughts. But sometimes I think just stay put in NE Kansas and just go to SD for a week or so each ice season. Should be retired by the end of this year.
June 26, 2017 at 4:51 pm #1701053Geez is the prop hub stripped out. You should be going 45 plus. I would think you would use somewhere around a 17p. I’m running a 21p on my 1750 75 tiller 2 stroke max of two people.
June 11, 2017 at 8:24 pm #1698547Went out to inspect mine with light and inspection mirror with rigging hole cover pulled. It looked like new with no water stains as far as could be seen. Wave Wackers may have helped but I am gonna seal the top cap just in case.
June 11, 2017 at 3:05 pm #1698521What’s up with the transoms? I have a 99 1750 fish hawk I bought new.
June 11, 2017 at 3:02 pm #16985201999 1750 fish hawk 75hp tiller that I bought new. vantage on the back with wave wackers and a new Ulterra on the bow.
January 22, 2017 at 10:03 am #1667507A few years ago I bought a used LX5 and it came with the DCS that uses the battery gauge/LCD readout, it still works. I also have a a LX7 that uses the charger with the red/green indicator light and it still works. I bough a high dollar battery tender jr for my motorcycle and it burnt out in just over a year. I have four Harbor Freight battery tenders that are going on several years of use. I have two no longer made Exide brand 10amp fully automatic chargers that are excellent. I have lots of things with batteries in them.
