I just upgraded my system from Standard Definition DVR to High Definition DVR. I only have 1 receiver. My dish was 1 year old. They had to replace it. They also replaced my Receiver(Obviously). When I called they wanted to Charge me $200 for the receiver. Free install and charge $10 month for the HD service. I already pay $7 for DVR. After a short discussion about getting all of that for free by switching to Dish I ended up Paying $106 for a new HD DVR receiver with free install and by signing up for auto pay out of my bank account I get the HD service for free. So in total I paid $106 to upgrade and my monthly bill remains the same.

After chasing musky for 4 years I finally caught my first one….too bad I didn’t catch it while targeting them. I caught this fish in Northern Minnesota 1 week ago while targeting pike. Oops!! Hit the tape at 46 inches, quick photo and back in the water. Never been so excited in my life.

    Reel
    Spinning – Left Hand
    Casting – Right Hand

    Cast
    Spinning – Right Hand
    Casting – Left Hand

When I first started using casting equipment about 5 years ago I started by casting with the right and switching. Was casting big Musky baits at the time. My right arm would get so tired that I would have to stop after a few hours. I decided to teach myself how to cast with my left hand. I spent about 30 minutes casting from shore by myself because I didn’t want anyone laughing at me. The next time I was in the boat I worked on it some more. I then spent a week long fishing trip casting with my left hand. By Monday afternoon it was not a problem. The hardest thing for me was learning how to thumb the line correctly with the left hand.

It is worth the extra effort to learn how to cast with both hands! I’m glad that I did it!

Really caught me in an off week. One week a year it is baseball the rest of the year it is outdoors. Go Cubs!

Looks like a cool concept. My biggest concern is how would the levelwind work when reeling in a big fish or a big pile of weeds. Would it still walk the line back and forth?

Down hill skis from a pawn shop. I chose not to cut them down and mounted a small tub on the ends of them that holds the 20lb propane tank and a 5 gallon bucket for the fish. It works great! Only cost about 10 bucks. I have also seen them on craigs list for similar prices.

I have also had issues with their customer support. I have had my 520c for 2 years with very little use. Went to use it 4 or 5 weeks ago and the GPS puck was not working. After spending 4-5 days trying to get in touch with CS I was finally successful. They agreed the GPS was bad and they said they never go out. I called BS. They were quick to sell me a new one for $113 if I sent mine in. I sent it in the next day. Still haven’t seen it. I called last Friday because I have a vacation coming next weekend and they said they would get it in the mail right away. I think if I spent that kind of money for a replacement they should have had it in the mail the day after they received mine. I use to love Lowrance, now I hate them.

I called Lowrance and they agreed that the GPS puck is bad. I had to send mine in and they are sending me a replacement for $112. Kind of expensive but I’ve got to have it.

    Thanks for all the help!

I love to eat Pike. I keep my fair share during fishing trips to Minnesota. However, I only keep fish in the 24-26 inch range. I only keep maybe 1 out of 10 fish I catch that are in that size range. Anything smaller than 24 inches is too tough to get the Y bones out. I think with a little practice the fish in this range are easy to clean. I did clean a couple 28 inch fish this year but they were kept by others in the group and against my will. It would kill me to fillet anything larger than that. I guess I just get too excited to catch a fish that size. I want others to enjoy that thrill. Once those fish are cleaned no one else gets to have that thrill.

I am not saying that I don’t think that others should be keeping those 30-something fish to eat but that I only catch a couple every year and I would like to have the opportunity to catch them a couple years later when they might be a couple inches longer.

Dan got back to me last night. He insisted that he send me a new bait to replace the one that melted. I tried to convince him that a replacement wasn’t necessary because it was my fault. He wouldn’t have it. He is mailing me a new bait. Thanks Dan! I can’t wait to give it a shot at the lake.

I tried a full reset and it did not help. I also tried uploading the latest software from the webpage and that did not help.

    Thanks,
    Seth

No one that I know of. This would be a perfect troubleshooting step. I may try to find someone via a local website. Thanks, Seth

I’m all fired up about the prospect of hitting the Ice at Brushy this weekend. I was out on Little wall last weekend and I got tired of catching the tiny bluegills and crappie that they have.

Does anyone know when the Brushy Ice Tournament is this year?

They are not the Worlds greatest spring bobber. St Croix makes the best.

That is funny. What in the world was she doing with a gun in the first place?

I have been killing moles for many years. I have killed as many as 3 in one afternoon.

Pat down all of the runs. As you are patting them down make sure to take note of the most recent ones. After they are all patted down go away from the area for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes go back to the spot with a 12 or 20 guage shotgun. Walk very softly around the runs. If they hear you they will stop moving. Look for the runs that are pushed up. Almost 100% of the time there will be runs pushed up and you will see the ground moving at one end of the run. Stand back about 10 feet and fire right on the spot where it is moving. Sometimes we use 2 guns and fire at the same time. Grab the shovel and dig up your prize. One time last summer I did this and actually missed the mole. However when I dug down to him he was so dazed and confused that I was able to pull him up and kill him with the spade.

It is very rewarding and comforting to know that they are dead. Kill them with the shotgun if you live out of the city limits. Best way to be sure they are DEAD!

    I hate moles!

I have both a Light and a Medium. I use both of these for panfish and they work great. However, I wish I had an ultralite as well.

I love Northern Pike. There is a lot more meat on each fish and it taste the same as anything else in a frying pan.

As for a recipe, I really like to buy a batter from Bass Pro. It is a little spicy, reasonably priced and produces a lot of fish out of one can. Give it a try! The link is below.

Keep a close eye on Craigslist.com. They have used units on there all of the time.
