I used the blue painters tape I believe as a base then electrical tape around so it stuck better and I dont have to worry about any residue issues on my rod. Worked Great!!!

Without getting too much into it I think the basics would be a sinker, a good treble hook and I personally run 10lb fluoro for walleyes. And if you want to get a little more adventurous put some sort of spoon on instead of a sinker(depending on minnow size). Some days they have just preferred that.

    Thanks fellas!
I think I almost have to go with a ground blind just because during late season last year sitting out in the negative wind chills in a corn patch I definitely didnt want to be there. But I will look at the Barronett blinds for sure. They are definitely a little better priced than the ameristep ones I was looking at. Thanks for the thoughts on the bigger ground stakes to tie it to though because that is something I would have over looked.

Sorry forgot to mention the red bedding section is the only area we really leave alone because we know how good the bedding is. There is normally a family group of does that hide out in there but to stay on the property and get to the back to hunt we normally jump some. the section is bigger than i made it on there and the most bucks we see are normally skirting the outsides of there during the rut but like you know you never know when they will be there.

Thanks for the responses guys! I did my best to lay out what i thought was pertinent. Like i said we are really the only ones that bow hunt around us. Right now i think we are really trying to utilize too much of our land so i may be walking in the way east portion too much (picture is laid out as top being north).

I wish they had an updated view but they dont. Half of the land was logged this year on the south portion of the big woods except for where it is too wet. The northern portion will be logged next year. So realistically I think in a few years there should be great cover all over the place. Normally most of the bucks we have on camera are in the far east portion. We believe from trail camera pictures that they follow the blue lines to the food sources. Which is why i hunt towards the east part of the property. Problem is i walk from the road on the far west…

Right now on the map i laid out a section to the east of the white line that i think would be great to leave as a sanctuary. or at least leave it free from any human intrusion besides during hunting season. Right now that is the only way to the back of the property with a fourwheeler. So i believe with a new road on the south (the pink line) I think it would be a little better and defintely not disturb as much of the big woods portion.

They left a lot of big hemlocks stand for “thermals” for wildlife in winter but i am worried how the underbrush will grow but i will have to wait and see that. Currently the wet section that they will never log is open to hinge cutting so i may start that in hopes to attract them to bed along that creek bottom more (the purple section). I obviously could get into more detail for you guys but this will be a great jumping off point. I guess my hope is to get them to bed more on my land which i think i can accomplish with staying off of it in the future and more food.

Yeah I am looking at getting one come this summer. Got enough use out of my 2002 5.4 liter so its time to get a “new” used one. I have been leaning towards the ecoboost but the 5.0 is definitely a good option as well. I have been researching the difference between them but in the end they both look like good options besides the lemons you get here and there but keep posting because its great to get personal opinions on them.

I was out there fishing one time and watched a nice college couple wander around on three inches of ice. Well low and behold there was an ice heave that those experienced on the ice stay far away from. But not some of the city slickers that go to this school. He went straight through as he approached it but all is well because he caught and pulled himself up.

The library is always distracting for me to go and study and have to stare out there. You should join us when we do a Wisconsin Fishing Team ice fishing outting this winter.

I normally carry two with me once I find something that works but unfortunately it always seems like when I’m on fish is when I only have one left with me then I look for the closest color and size to what I was using as a back up. I would probably go all tungsten and just spend the extra money if I could but the big difference is the availability of jigs. Some sizes and shapes I like are only in lead and my favorite tungstens I can only find in one bait shop so I save my money until then.

Tungsten and gill pills for me. It can still get a really small jig down fast for really finicky panfish and for some reason gill pills have just killed it for me in past years. I think its a good idea to separate the vertical and horizontal too even though I have to start practicing what I preach. But I have one large box with all my lures in then I have a fly tackle box for my pocket that has my favorites and go to’s so I can change right by the hole. Color wise I don’t think you can go wrong with oranges, pinks and reds for panfish. But definitely get more spoons for perch, crappies and eyes. Probably in perch and orange or pink to start for that.

Yeah definitely not the same fishery. You would almost be better off heading even farther north to nokomis or alice. I wouldn’t mind a shallow reservoir episode. Or watch them try to catch some walleyes on lakes in the ceded territory. It would help me a bunch.

Trust me Brett I am a poor college kid too. Been living off what my dad has passed down or what I got for christmas. And now most of the money I make during summer goes to fishing and hunting stuff instead of books and food. lol

I justified buying the rod because of how much I go and for that I wanted quality. After watching all the videos on here and with how helpful the guys at TUCR were I ended buying two rods. Second one was an impulse buy to go to Devils lake. Im definitely not regretting spending the money because I expect this rod and reel to last me quite a long time. Im just trying to find it in the budget for an LX9 or underwater camera. The new tickle stick looks pretty nice and i can talk to a friend who has fished with it a bit but I know I don’t regret buying mine at all as long as it holds up in the future like it should.

I loved my cheap HT blue ice rod when I got it handed to me from my dad and used that for a couple years but with as much as I go now I decided to invest in good equipment and So I ordered a precision noodle TUCR. No doubt a huge difference between quality. I think the one big selling point like Andy said is that the ice doesn’t build up on the guides where as my last one I had to clear it constantly.

If I only went out a couple times a year I would have trouble spending a lot of money but in the end you get what you pay for! I had mine done in custom colors and I love it!!

I probably will try a different brand out or shop around the next few years but I have had my blue suit for probably 4 or 5 years and Its starting to come apart by the bottom of the pants but I have no complaints and I wear mine all the time. I don’t have any complaints besides the knee pads aren’t the greatest.

Will be heading up Sunday for a week so hopefully they will still be hitting! This is definitely encouraging and is causing me to study a lot less than I should be for exams.

I haven’t had a problem with cellcom yet and definitely the best coverage i have seen for out on a lake or what not. But i was reluctant on a smart phone but got an iPhone and immediately bought an otter box for it. It really can take a beating and it has held up for well over a year now. But if you have a problem or technical glitch with an iPhone within a year you can take it in and have it replaced. The cellcom people just need to check it out to make sure you aren’t lying. I haven’t had a problem yet so i guess i am a little biased.

Yeah its definitely always a hard choice with so many different options out there but this is definitely good input. I run an 898 on my boat so i would definitely have to put in some work and money to get it on a four wheeler or snowmobile if i would even want it on there since that is a big unit. I have been using the website fishidy on my phone as of now but when you get up to northern Wisconsin and Minnesota it gets tough and definitely kills the battery which i would like to have in the middle of nowhere. I was also thinking about trying out Navionics.

I fish all year but one of my favorite times is late ice so at those times snowmobile and fourwheeler are out of the question. I do like the upgrade capability though of marcum.

I dont have time to look at this stuff as much as i want because of finals for school but check out this website and click on the different links. Its interesting to see the lakes i fish and which ones my grandpa always fished and to watch the number of walleyes go down. http://infotrek.er.usgs.gov/wdnr_public/

My grandpa has been going to the same lake for opener every year for forty some years and saw the DNR biologist a year ago and he told him this lake isnt a walleye lake. Sad to see somewhere my grandpa enjoyed for so many years go down the drains.
