Keep in mind that Bird hunting is like deer hunting for many of us. The spots we use have been developed over many years and all have a time and place. It’s hard to share those places with somone you don’t know well enough to trust or not trust. Just looking at it from a bird hunters point of view.

Great story. Glad to see the next generation coming up. I have two girls but hope to have the same experience with one of them in the future. If not they better find a man that can drag my [censored] in a boat when I’m old.

Quick update out of Nodak. (I was supposed to be there but work happened.:( The boys are in Central Nodak just out side of Medina. They are telling me theducks are thick but the darks are not. They filled out on Red Heads, Blue bills and Mallards yesterday mroning. In the afternoon the set up in a field to shoot geese but only closed on 3. Not a bad day for the first run.

The water is up in this area but not flooded like many other areas in North Dakota. This will probably be a good thing the next week or twowhile it’s primarily local ducks. But once the big flights get here I would probably look elsewhere. The scouting thet’ve done is leading the NE when they return in a few weeks.

I’m sure I’ll be able to provide more info later this am as they like to send me picture messages. (monkeybutts)

I would have to agree. Also remember to make a float when everything else is shuts down. The moving water will hold a ton of birds.

The inlaws were up at the cabin again last weekend. Spiner rigs during the day in 20ft or better produced a few fish. Then cranks up on the flats after dark. Keep the boat in 9 to 10 ft of water. That will keep you within 20 to 30 feet of most break lines on OT.

Keep in mind the inlaws drink more than they fish.

I don’t know if they still exist. But there was a baitshop on 12 in Wayzata that did this for years.

    Kooty,

Tim at Wayzata bait is the best around. He works afternoons so call him after lunch.

Wew smoke the entire breast. Brine it in salt water over night twice. Then marinade in you favorite sauce. Smoke until the entire breast is done. It should pull apart in strips. It’s a great way to take a snack into the field.

Both guns are great. Our family runs a number of each. I believe we have 3 sbe’s and 2 sbe2’s. Both are great guns. If it were me I would go after the deal. (Assuming the conditon of each gun is equal.)

Good luck. You won’t go wrong either way.

    Jake get this forum rocking!

That statement is highly ironic….for reasons I can not yet discuss.

But anyways, I did a preliminary tour of the stomping grounds on Tuesday. Lots of little ducks that still can’t fly . First year for early season goose over water in the SE zone……that could be fun!

Don’t start with the cryptic crap Jake. I’ve been waiting all summer to hear about the new toys. (You know what I mean.) Now start spilling the beans. I need a fix.

BTW I get to shoot teal and woodies the middle of september, NoDak in October, then my hunting season starts down here Dec – Jan. I’m starting to like this move.

Your figuires on the ‘legacy costs’ are a bit off big G.
There is no healthcare for life. It stops when they hit medicare/medicaid age.
80% wages is off also. It’s more like 50% or less, depending on how many years beyond 30 you put in. And when you turn 62yrs, you lose nearly half of that.
Toyota doesn’t see legacy costs yet just because they haven’t been going here long enough. It will be there some day tho. Just remember, these contracts are sighned off on both sides and nobody held a gun to anybody’s head to do so.
I guess we all can spin this whichever way we please. I just feel the facts need to be put forth.
    I report, you decide.

    Herb,

I respecfuly disagree. Many of the old union contracts have provisions related to health care and large portions of there last 1 to 5 year rolling average pay. As an example. My grandfather was a butcher for a large grocery store. Now 80 years old he still carrys his heath bene’s from the day he ret (At 0 cost.) and recieves 80% of his pay. (I’ve enven seen examples where the annual income increases for inflation.) Many of these contracts were written before medsups and the edvantage plans now available. I can give you many more examples if you like. I see them almost every day due to how I make a living and where I now live. (Fort Myers has a large number of ret. individuals from Detroit.) The same contracts exist in many industry’s and the companies are paying out the nose for them. (IE.. The big three.) This is why the companies negotiated to send control of the pensions and medical benefits to the UAW. (Ford and Chrystler)

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/15/business/15auto.html

The VEBA trust controls manyof these Health and retirement Bene’s. This is also why those two MAY have a chance to make it going forward. If the pensions fail it’s no longer the companies fault. They will fund the benefits and the union will do what it does with the money.

As for Toyota having legacy costs in the future…… It won’t happen. Because the comany is non union the employess are provided with a 401k (With Company Match) and health bene’s. At retierment they head into the sunset living off of what they chose to save over the years. Because they have no legacy cost Toyota has the ability to pay it’s employees well and still make a buck. (These number are readily available on line.) Here’s just one example. Type “Toyota VS Big Three labor rates” into a google search

This post is just one reason our country is great. Everyone has an opinion and we all the ability to communitate them.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

The Classic on Lake Minnetonka is a draw tournament. The rules meeting and Draw party are part of the fun. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I’m surprised at how many still say to ask the father. Seems like an outdated practice to me. My wife’s father passed away when she was young, but even if he were still around, I don’t think I would have found it necessary to ask him. Maybe it’s just me, though.

Please let me know if this changes when you have a little girl of your own. Daddies little girl is the most important thing in his life. (I have two.) If some little [censored] doesn’t think my opinion matters he’ll be in for a rude awakening. (Not at all saying your a little [censored].) IMO if the guy doesn’t have the rocks to aske me. Then he needs to look elswhere. Your situation is far more complicated. If he had been around my guess is that your opinion or actions would have changed.

Simplified: Always respect your elders and there family no matter how out of date the traditions.

    Kooty,

I’m down that way now and expect to have a buggy back in the garage by then. Even if I don’t have a boat I’ll have the goods for you by then.

I’ll shoot you a PM with my contact details.

In the dog days of summer in lakes I fish, the crappies suspend over structure, in the thermocline. To explain what this is the next time you swim let your feet hang down, when you feel the water get colder that is the thermocline. 1. Troll main lake structure. 2.Use a 1/32 ounce pink jig head. 3. Use a small shiner or a black crappie minnow. 4. Cast out as far as you can behind the boat and then pull off 4 more tugs of line. 5. Set your trolling motor on 2 or about .75 to 1.25 mph. 6. Pick up the pole and real in your crappie, don’t set the hook because you usually pull the hook out of their mouth. This method works almost anywhere. I’ve had great success in clear water Wisconsin lakes as well as Iowa lakes like Big Creek & Saguema. Let me know how it works. One more thing once you located them make 3 or 4 passes as you will pick them up every pass.

Yep thats the one for me. We never know the speed though. We use an OLD OLD 20 foot pontoon (Think Steel cage and wood floor.) with a 9.9 johnson on the back. When the motor idles in gear and runs without killing the speed is jus right.

Greys get’s my votes. The best part is you can watch them 2 at a time. Evry time I’m there I see somthing that I say to myself “It can’t get any better than that.” Then every time it does.

2 years ago I watched a brand new 30+ foot Baja wind up sitting on the aproach to the ramp. The crunch of glass on conrete was awful.

    Good times.

My brother in law has this one. The attached is a refurb special at cabelas. My guess is that 1200fps will most likely take care of your issue. Not sure I would want to have BB gun wars like we used to. These damn things are getting serious.
