    ace,
can’t disagree with you there. in my personal opinion, any of those beautiful lake vermilion muskies are better looking than you or tom and even me.

see ya next week.can’t wait to chase some pike and walleyes.

cool coming up may 9th to fish openner. can’t wait. gonna get a warmup session on pike , walley and maybe some crappies here in WI this weekend.

Nice article on the vermilion and the lakes 2 best looking but (OLD)guides in yesterdays DNT. Didn’t realize you guys were such elder statesman.

too bad we gotta wait til june 7th to chase musky in minn and may 24th here in WI. but oh well. It hopefully will be worth it.

as stated earlier ive had some luck on the west end too. same strategy as east end. work rocks or rock ledges on points and islands adjacent to deep water. some days it doesn’t work but it does when they’re biting.seems to work during warmer months of july and august for me.
good luck, wish our weather would go back to warm. not so nice here in ne , wi since last thursday march 27.
need to melt more ice. my boats ready

    musky tom,
was this one bonnie caught on your new prototype lure? caught by your island.?

let me know when the pike deal is. if the ice is out , i will be up on may 10th.

small flowage( real shallow) behind my house here in ne wisconsin is starting to open where the creek flows through.

couple weeks and my guess is lakes will open. However mother nature looks to bring snow and cold here starting friday. this will slow the meltdown.

    ace,
big northern on a crappie jig. man i bet that was a blast.

i saw 2 – 40 plus inch northern during muskie challenge. one hit and missed and the other one followed twice. if the darn phone didn’t wring i might have been able to coax the 2nd one into biting. gotta remember not to have phone on during tourney. oooops scratch that, wife is pregnant, phones gonna have to be on alot this summer.

i can see it already- a dandy muskie follows on day of tourney-phone wrings-guess what labor time. i gotta go. to heck with the musky. partner (john) will have to chase her by himself.

give vermilion a shot, i have had a ball up there the last 2 years. long drive from wi but well worth it. im sure you’ll enjoy the scenery, people and most of all the muskie. its a good walleye lake too but i chase musky only so far. might try walleyes on the openner but thats because muskie doesn’t open til june.
    good luck,

thankyou it was awesome to catch. actually that won the lake vermilion musky challenge 2002.
i thought maybe there was no conformation on that 60″er. who caught the 55.5 and do you know of a picture i could see. west end too. cool.
i told you where my fish was caught, lake vermilion.east end. but unfortunately not by this now famous cabbage patch near your dock. tom must have that spot all to himself.

    thanks tom
i thought maybe this one ate at mcdonalds like i do and is skinny-just kidding.
maybe this summer it’s bigger and i catch it again. or i go for his big brother.
does anyone know if the so called 60″er someone claimed to have gotten last summer was ever verified? not saying there isn’t one in there, just would like to see a picture of it.
whats the largest caught in vermilion? maybe one of us will get lucky and beat that this summer.

    ace ,
i thought for a minute you fell down a huge darkhouse hole and got eaten by new world record musky.
so if i’m there in july chasing musky on the west end , i should be working island points? not shoreline points? if so i can’t wait for the 4th weekend.
like to fish the east end too, usually i do that in august.
    thanks,

    thanks tom,
a musky fisherman who likes panfishing? what is this world coming to?
i do have to admit, i like crappie fishing early in the year when the musky season hasn’t openned yet. yummie in the tummy.
do you guide for crappie or panfish? or just the mighty muskie.

east vs, west is a great question.
i have fished both with success on muskie on each end. i always was told east was better because of the good looking guides on the east side like ace and musky tom. is this true?
on a serious note the big depth and sheer size of big bay makes me guess east. plenty of room for several big muskie to eat, grow and hide. i have never fished the narrow part of vermilion though. any thoughts or tips on this? ace or tom?
do you guys ever fish the western(cook) end ? any thoughts or ideas on how to attack this side vs. east. my experience has showed me weeds early in season and rocks after the heat starts cranking up. any ideas on this?
