not sure if you made a sure taxidermist decision yet… but I’d say take a drive to Prescott, WI and check out the work Scott Miller does… plenty of people that will do it but I’d never trust a fish w/ anybody but Scott now. Simply Amazing details and colors just like it came out of the hole!
    here’s his number (715) 262-5315 address: 135 Broad Street Prescott, WI 54021

2 knots, 2 uses… rapala loop for my horizontal jigs and jiggn raps, helps keep them balanced nicely instead of adjusting constantly.

Everything else for ice… trilene knot. That usually covers it til musky season when the palomar knot is the only way to go

Hey Chico, did you ever get a response for your “y-rig” from the MN DNR at all, curious to what their response was?

I did not actually! I e-mailed Pat probably 6-10 pics. of different rig configurations but have not gotten a response yet so I will have to follow up with a call.

But… I did come up with an entirely new rig configuration which allows me to use a long piece of fluorocarbon and still have two trebles, be quite stealthy, and is completely “compliant”… been calling it the “MN Double” or the “Dos ‘sota rig” . Got a nice one on it before I finished cleaning out my other hole while testing it so looks like its good to go.

That’s exactly what I was referring to in the post. Like the picture shows, right as the head comes out I swiftly grab them behind the head and remove the hook while the rest of the body is still down the hole. I’ve done this with all kinds of fish and sizes, even the big ones might just wiggle a bit then sit there and allow you to take the hook out and get them back.

Hey Flaggers… I make custom tip-up rigs for a few local shops so I also wanted to get some clarity on the legal rigs. I spoke w/ Pat Watts at the DNR and got some things cleared up but much is still unclear so I will be sending in some pics of rigs and some prototypes to see what is legal and will post the updates. You do not have to add blades and blades do not make it an artificial. The multiple hooks cannot be more than 9″ apart under the single tackle configuration but that would make for some short rigs under the normal upside down Y looking rigs we are used to. The single rigs are fine but trebles not connected by one piece may or may not be in MN… hope to hear back soon

I gotta go with the one I’ve fished like crazy out of the last few years… Clam Yukon. I think they are around $600.. at least that’s what I paid a few years ago. Look for a good coating/canvas that wont burn instantly when the heater gets too close! Compare what you feel is important…weight, room, sled size and ease of use. I like how easy mine is to adjust and lighten when I go by myself

I’ve always gone for the treble.. hook color doesn’t really matter but some spoons might need a smaller treble added. Great for putting a euro on each hook so u stickem pretty easily. I use them more for deeper fish, they are great w/ anything, min head, plastics, If they don’t smash that I’ll just use a smaller jig but spoon w/ treble combo usually finds me the aggressive ones the fastest

Sounds pretty sweet, and a good rod definitely helps you get more fish to the hole. I’m sure those rods would be great Pike rods too. The rods John makes are awesome, they seem to just fit what you imagined
