Bifenthrin. Its the same chemical you find in the Home Defense line of bug killers. Kills every sort of bug out there. Talstar P is a brand with a higher concentrate that you mix with water. Mix one ounce of product per 1/gal of water and spray the perimeter around your area. Everyone that I know that uses it has great results.

+1. I also use the Talstar P with a pump sprayer and that stuff is absolutely fantastic. I bought a gallon of it 4 years ago off amazon and I still have about 30-40% of it left and I spray about 2.5 acres twice a year. Mosquitos, ticks, you name it. The stuff works wonders. It takes me about an hour to do my 2.5 acres – much quicker than the bottles you hook up to your hose. Also, you don’t waste all that water that you do with the bottles you hook up to your hose.

I won’t argue that Alaska is an amazing destination, but keep in mind that you do not have the ability to catch and release fish in Alaska unless you’re running your own boat. $500 per person per day to catch 2 silver salmon or 1 king and then you are done fishing. And price out a week of fishing in Alaska vs. a week fishing in Ontario, not even the same universe!

Not sure if regs have changed in the last couple years but we did a lot of C&R in Alaska, both with and without a guide. Kings, reds, silvers, you name it. The fish cannot come out of the water if you are C&R’ing, that was the only rule I recall. That is why you see so many guys taking pictures of fish with the fish’s belly in the water. In fact, when fishing reds, the majority of fish you catch have to be released unless they are hooked in the mouth which is not common when fishing reds.

Besides the obvious, I’d check to watch her squatting frequency when she’s going #1 outside. My golden almost always got a UTI when she was in heat. I didn’t know the symptoms to look for during her first heat cycle and luckily the breeder caught it and filled me in.

If she is squatting to go pee multiple times when she’s outside, it is a sign of the onset of a UTI/bladder infection. A lot of times they will squat and no or very little urine will come out. Another sign is them sitting by the door and/or wanting to go outside more frequently than normal.

It is easily cured by some antibiotics and probiotics from the vet, but if you don’t catch it, your dog is going to be going thru a lot of unnecessary pain.

the st louis river would be your best bet for the species you mentioned, as well as the best average size of walleyes in the area. You can fish 2 lines on the SLR with a MN license, so that is a plus. If you want to specifically fish an inland lake, I’d recommend one of the reservoir lakes that are about a half hour north of downtown Duluth. That’d be Fish Lake, Island Lake, Rice Lake and Boulder Lake. All of those lakes will have your desired species. If you go on boulder lake, go slow out of the public access as it is a minefield for rocks that can take your lower unit off.

I was up the north shore on Tuesday and the colors are pretty much at peak in the spots I was at. One day of stiff winds and the leaves will be off in most of those areas. It seems other parts of the state are much further behind, but the north shore is at peak right now. The crowds up there, even on a Tuesday, were insane, and I was 4 miles in.

If you are planning to go up the north shore for fall colors, I’d get there by this weekend at the latest. I’d guess Sunday’s wind forecast will knock down most of that color.

In my opinion, those who make their living off of natural resources, such as fishing and hunting guides, should follow every rule in the regs book, and in some cases, be held to higher standards. I’ve always been a big fan of his YouTube videos but I’m majorly turned off by finding out he has been busted for fishing without a license and guiding without a license. I don’t care how informative your videos are, fish and game laws aren’t that hard to follow.

Can’t help but laugh at all the conspiracy theorists and the people saying they know better than doctors, nurses, microbiologists, scientists, epidemiologists, and the CDC. Its ironic because many of the conspiracy theorists and anti-maskers are people who barely passed high school science class, yet are the first to offer their opinions on why masks aren’t needed.

“So you’re just going to blindly listen to the CDC without doing your own research?”

Yes… absolutely. What research am I going to do that is going to be more valid or valuable than research from a government agency that spends $6.5 BILLION a year on studying diseases and disease transmission? Do you honestly think your google skills are worth $6.5 billion a year of scientific research? It is in everyone’s best interest to listen to the CDC and follow their guidelines and recommendations. Wear a mask! It’s literally easier to wear a mask than debate about it. That’s how easy it is. Stop being selfish and do the easiest thing you can do to help prevent the spread and help people not die. Remember, its not about you, its about us. Even Trump finally came around and is encouraging mask use… never thought I’d see the day – only took about 4 months.

I don’t need to hear another reason for why you don’t want to wear a mask.. I don’t have the energy to deal with another living, breathing Dunning-Kruger graph.

if there’s even a chance it helps isn’t that worth the minor inconvenience to wear a mask? geesh some of you guys act like they are asking you to cut off your right leg.

pretty sure you can when you buy your deer licenses on line, but I just logged in, big game licenses are not up yet.

I know you can buy your license online, I just wasn’t sure if you are able to enter a lottery online at the same time thru the website. I thought you couldn’t but am not 100% sure.

Can someone confirm whether or not you can apply for a lottery online? I don’t believe you can, I think it has to be done in person but wasn’t able to verify that on the MN DNR website.

Good to know – I didn’t know that, thanks for sharing.

    Great Laker:
It would take a LOT of money to return habitat to the conditions at that time.

I agree, lots and lots of money… and I don’t think we will ever get back to the “good old days”, but a few steps in that direction certainly would be nice.

Buffalo – You are spot on with the correlation between habitat and bird numbers. I’m not familiar with what you call the soil bank days, I think it is a little before my time… Are you just referring to when there was a lot more CRP? I don’t know how to get there but the solution is there needs to be more land/habitat enrolled in programs like CRP and game production areas. If SD wants to preserve pheasant hunting as a steady source of income for years to come for both the government as well as pumping money into local economies, they need to come up with a way to find substantial $$ to invest in programs that will increase and enhance pheasant habitat. With no state income tax, their state tax revenues are largely dependent upon sales tax revenue and license sales from non-residents – non-resident pheasant hunters contribute great deals of money into both.

To steal an analogy from field of dreams, if they [SD] don’t build it [habitat], they [non-res hunters] won’t come.

That is a good question Buffalo Fishhead and you are bringing up a very valid point. I think the problem people have with it is that is a good tool to get a general pulse on populations specifically by county, which at least for me, has an influence into what parts of the state I am going to focus on when I go out to SD to pheasant hunt each year (or for me, twice a year). Is it a imperfect tool that sometimes has skewed results that are dependent upon weather conditions, among many other factors? Yes, absolutely. But its all we have to get any sort of indication on population changes when you are a non-resident.

Also, the fact that (in my opinion) they aren’t eliminating the survey to save money… They are doing it because the bird numbers have been dropping year after year and this is obviously reflected on the brood survey. When hunters see drastic drops in bird numbers, there is a resulting drop in non-residents buying pheasant licenses each year. IMO, they axed the brood survey because non-resident license purchases are way down.

IMO, they are not addressing the elephant in the room, and that is the loss of habitat. Loss of habitat = reduced bird numbers, regardless of how you spin it. Getting rid of the brood survey is not fixing the problem but just trying to make the dropping pheasant population less obvious to non-residents.

I fully support these changes. Some sort of change was needed to increase the attractiveness of SD pheasant hunting to non-residents, and this is a step in the right direction. With the drastic drop in CRP acreage and public land available to hunt, diminishing habitat, and dwindling bird numbers, SD is getting less and less attractive (from a non-resident perspective) to hunt each year. Throw in the 10 AM start time regulation and it is making more and more sense for me to hunt neighboring states without the start time restriction or just stay home and hunt game farms. As bird numbers continue to drop in SD, neighboring states become more and more attractive.

I recently had a tick bite that I thought might have been lymes due to a swollen lymph node. I was able to schedule a video visit with my doctor same day, and scheduled got a lab blood test for a few days later (just to be certain) and he immediately put me on antibiotics for lymes. I agree with the “you need a new doctor” statement. You can never be too cautious when it comes to lymes.

Went out last weekend with low 80s water and caught handful of nice upper 30s northerns. Most didn’t even take out of net, things were fiesty as all hel! Would shoot right off after dumping em back in lake.

Just because a fish swims off after being released does not mean it doesn’t end up as a floater a short while later

Yes! One of my favorite shows! I saw on the last episode there were some flurries in the air. Winter is coming & we’ll see who built the best shelter to handle it!

Can’t believe the one gal didn’t have her bow with her when that Moose was 20yds away!?!?!? I think I’d be bringing that everywhere I went.

I think the guy who built the mostly rock shelter has the best shelter for withstanding the winter temps. I was pretty impressed by the gal who just finished her fireplace last episode and used clay to seal all the gaps.

The one guy who is still building his main shelter is about to be in a world of hurt. Looks like he is going the log cabin route and is only about 1/4 of the way up. He waited too long and the log cabin approach is too time consuming.

I’m hoping everyone that is refusing to wear masks is also going to refuse potential medical treatment in the event it’s needed. Your desire to not wear a mask is all fine and dandy until it potentially puts nurses/doctors/etc at risk because of your negligence. The anti-maskers should have to sign a waiver saying that by refusing to wear a mask, they are also not allowed medical treatment.

Yes. One of my classmates in my MBA program came down with it in April. Shes in her late 20s, healthy, no underlying health conditions, and she was in pretty rough shape for over a week.

I was up in the bwca for 5 days last week and the mayflies had just started hatching the last couple days of the trip. None of the 35 walleyes we filleted had any in their stomachs yet from what we could tell

Just an option to consider – when I prepay 6 months of insurance at a time, I get somewhere around $75-$100 as a discount just for prepaying and you don’t have to remember to pay the bill every month. I don’t know why more people don’t do this. If you need to cancel the policy mid-period, you will get a pro-rata refund for the unused period, PLUS you are getting a discount just for pre-paying. Free money in my mind plus it removes the burden of paying a bill every month.

Every trainer I’ve worked with in the hunt test world will tell you E collars should only be used to re-enforce commands the dog already knows. It should never be used for punishment/determent.

For a dog jumping up on people, a firm knee to the chest followed by whatever your “down” command is is where I would start. Don’t bring the e collar into it until they know the command you are giving them and have that down. I would agree with what was said above is the dog is only 5 months old yet – I definitely wouldn’t get too crazy with the e collar yet. Instead, I’d have them on a 30+ ft check cord and then a new person shows up and they are excited and running towards them and not listening to your commands, you grab on to the check cord and physically correct them and reel them back into you.

No e-collar stimulation yet – too young. You can ruin a dog for good by over using the e collar or applying too much too early. Kind of like intro to gun shots.

Chalk me up as another guy who freezes gallon and half gallon jugs and uses that as block ice in my cooler. I have a chest freezer in my garage where I typically store my 1/4 side of beef and 1/2 pig that I get about once a year. Any extra space in the freezer is filled from the bottle with frozen milk jugs. It helps with freezer efficiency as well as my inventory of block ice I can grab at a moments notice for the cooler. If I go to the bwca and am bringing a cooler, I combo the block ice with dry ice.

boats 16 ft and under are typically not titled in Minnesota. Per Minnesota 2020 boating guide page 14, “Certain watercraft over 16 feet are required to be titled in Minnesota”. Canoes and kayaks over 16 ft are excluded.

Did it dry and twist before you got it home? Buying lumber anywhere these days is great if you are making circles, not so great for anything that needs to be straight. doah

Go to a local lumberyard and not a big box store. The quality is much better. You get what you pay for.

A lot of Menards stuff is of the cheaper/lower quality variety. But it’s hard to beat 11% off for some things. The mask thing doesn’t bother me at all and I laugh at the people who get their panties in a bunch over it.

Coincidentally got this ad in my FB today. Sounds like a screaming price for Costas

    http://www.vipsunshades.com

Has anyone here ordered from this place? It appears almost too good to be true.

    $250 costas for $30???

You know what they say; if it seems too good to be true…. it usually is.

A quick google search shows its a scam
