. I then sat down on a rainy afternoon and logged them into a document which I saved to thumb drive that I keep in the gun safe.

I know many insurance companies, banks, and apps offer free cloud storage specifically for saving these types of documents. Probably much safer to use a couple of these than just one thumb drive, as they do go bad occasionally.

Thanks, I’ll have to check into it. I also have a few hard copies scatter around the house too in case of failure but the cloud idea sounds the best.

Did you file a police report and did you give them the serial number if you had it? This will prevent the thieves from bringing it to a pawn shop. All pawn shops must report serial numbers to their local PD’s and hold the item for a set amount of days before they can sell it. This time period allows the system to cross check serial numbers against stolen items.

If you didn’t have the serial number now is a good time to log all your serial numbers in a nice neat document. I just took my camera and photo’d all of my serial number plates on everything with a S/N. I then sat down on a rainy afternoon and logged them into a document which I saved to thumb drive that I keep in the gun safe.

Not saying that you didn’t already do this but thought I would mention to others out there that might be on the fence. It basically takes pawn shops out of the scenario. Of course there are still idiots out there that will try to pawn it and they are often busted by the serial number system which is a win-win as you get your equipment back and they get a one way ticket to the gray bar hotel.

You might want to read the story… She wasn’t tailgating. The truck was going south bound and the car was traveling north bound and when the rock dislodged from going over RR tracks it bounced into the north bound lane striking the car.

Great reminder Grouse! That one almost hit close to home. My niece was traveling down Rich Valley Road to soccer practice at DCTC about 15 minutes before the accident. It sent a shiver down my spine when my sister told me about it.

You covered it pretty well but I will add one thing, a ratcheting strap will be a better choice versus a pull tight strap. I’m still amazed that some trucking companies come into our company and secure a 1-2,000 pound machine with pull tight straps. I tell them nothing is leaving our facility with a strap like that. I send them up the road to a road equipment company to get the proper straps and if they don’t want to do that we call another freight company. Our machine is not going to come loose and potentially kill someone, end of conversation.

Sorry to here Ralph. I’ve had 3 5.3’s over the last 10 years and never had one issue but I know where your coming from and don’t blame you as I would be thinking long and hard if I had your track record with GM. I’m not sure it helped but on my last two (2012/2106) I deleted the AFM right after the warranty period was up. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that my MPG’s hardly wavered after doing this and the acceleration lag was almost totally gone.

The Modern Sportsman Gun Shop just opened in Burnsville. Their website say’s they do trigger work. I haven’t had a chance to make it over there yet but the places looks pretty interesting. They also have 16 lanes to test it out.

We all know there are legitimate reasons to be suspicious of some aspects of MN DNR operations, but it seems like a stretch to suggest the DNR is sabotaging a central part of their mission — “to provide outdoor recreation opportunities” — to save money/time stocking fish?

I don’t want to speak for Tuma but I believe this is what he was alluding to with his stocking comment. If you start controlling when people can use the lake and make things very difficult to use the access the law below may come into play. It will certainly muddy up the water with this law.

97C.201 STATE FISH STOCKING PROHIBITED WITHOUT PUBLIC ACCESS.

The commissioner and state agencies may only stock fish in waters where there is public access. The commissioner may stock fish in any stream within privately owned lands where the public is granted free access to and use of the stream for fishing purposes.

Thanks Tom! It’s volunteers like you that make our lives much easier when determining when to water and how much. It’s also nice knowing the snowfall totals for snowmobiling in the winter.

There is a member here, Buschman @BUSCHMAN that does chainsaw carvings. From what he has shown on here he has some serious talent. I’ve PM’ed him and he’s very responsive. I’m just trying to figure out what I want to have him do for me. I believe he’s in the east metro though but I’m sure you could find someone on here to deliver it up north when finished.

Edit: Sorry, I see that you are trying to do this on a existing stump in your yard. I need to read these posts better before responding. DOH!

My brother tosses one into the trunk of his car once. He made a couple of stops and came out of the store to find that it ate through his seat.

I see snappers quite a bit around 195th and Embers with the preserve ponds on both sides of the road. You get some pretty odd looks when you stop and hop out to help them across the road.

I saw a guy hit a Mallard on Embers (30 MPH) a couple weeks back. No excuse at all if you ask me. He was obviously not watching the road as the Mallard was slowly walking across the road. I told him what I thought of that move as we pulled in along side one another at Kwik Trip and he barked back that the duck shouldn’t walk across the road. Let’s just say my blood pressure was peaking. flame

That looks like blue spot disease (Esocid Herpesvirus1). I would send a note to the MN DNR and let them know when and where you caught it. They would probably appreciate knowing where this is taking place.

Here’s a good link explaining the issues. Looks like carp and phosphorus loading from upstream shallow lakes are the primary causes.

I have to agree with FT and Brian and I’ve heard Dutchboy make the comment “if you don’t like it then don’t click on it” many times especially in the Mille Lacs threads. It just sounds a little hypocritical when you say one thing and then blast another member for the same thing.

We all share the love for fishing but we all have various other hobbies. This guy likes to make You Tube videos and likes to share them. I see it no different than a member posting pictures of his dog every week. It’s an open forum and he’s posting in the GENERAL section so I see no harm especially since he’s not doing it for money.

I enjoyed the video as it reminded me that I need to make fish tacos this weekend. waytogo

They used to be SUPER rare to see, but have made a great comeback. Hopefully they do well enough for a Minnesota-wide season on them (apparently there is a season in NW MN from Roseau to the border), I’ve heard them called the Ribeye of the Sky, and would love to find out myself.

I would be very careful not to shop at the meat market where these people are buying their ribeyes. jester

The Sandhill Crane are not bad but far from a ribeye. Think goose but a little drier/tougher and gamier. We harvested quite a few over the years in ND and I always slow cooked them in a soup based stew and they were ok.

If you want a shot at one head up to ND and buy the $30 stamp and you are good to go. It’s a cool hunt and almost eerie when a large flock comes in with their gurgling call.

That’s because it’s a political decision and not a biological decision. Could you image if both groups were at the accesses at the same time? There would be a LOT of problems if this took place. There is really no other time of the year where fisherman are non-existent on the lake.

I am not saying it’s right or taking their side but the writing is on the wall and the GLIFWC and MNDNR don’t want to see these to groups co-mingling at the access points or having nets being snagged by fishermen. You just have to look at what happened when the governor made his trip up there, things escalated pretty quick. Whether they admit it or not I believe this has some bearing on the dates.

Hey Jake, any relation to Brad?

I played in the Burnsville and recognize the name.

I’m not sure if a DL is acceptable. They say in the regulations that you need to carry your license. The also talk about mobile devices and mention that you need to have that mobile device on you at all times when fishing. There is no mention of a DL.

I don’t think they like the DL idea as it ties them up longer as they would have to run you through dispatch or use their laptop in their vehicle if it’s close. All of this is much more time consuming than a 2 second glance at a fishing license or mobile device. Maybe someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

You have ever right to wonder and I would pay attention to my surroundings down there just to be extra safe. I’ve never had issues down there but the story below happened just a mile or two down the road.

And BTW I haven’t opened a phone book in close to 10 years. Yet I keep getting them thrown on my doorstep then go straight to the recycle. Wish I could figure out how to opt out of getting them!

You have to open it to find out. jester

Seriously though, I opened the last one just to see the credits on the cover photo and discovered contact information to get off the book list. A few minutes later I was removed. No more recycling bin filler for this guy. This information was on the first page.

I did find it funny that they were saying “NOW WITH LARGER TYPE” on the cover. Of course, the average age of the person using the book is probably 75. doah

I picked up a bottle of Bulleit barrel strength. It has a little more horsepower than I’m used to but it’s alright. You just have to remember what the proof is before pouring multiple cocktails. doah I think I’ll stick to the regular Bulleit in the future.

I just tapped into a Christmas present from a vendor in the UK (Macallan Irish Whisky). It’s pretty good but don’t have much to compare it too as this is the first scotch whisky that I’ve tried.

Lately I been trying to get away from frying all the time. I’ve been throwing a tablespoon or two of real butter in a pan and cooking the fish with a couple sprinkles of salt and pepper. It only takes a few minutes to prepare and the clean up is just wiping out a pan and they taste fantastic. I think people really overthink cooking fish and believe it always need to be fried in oil with a thick crust.

I’m not being argumentative with you, I know it could sound like that, but you are being reasonable in your reply.
It’s the multiple levels of failure that has me frustrated with the whole situation.

I didn’t take it as arguing at all. I shouldn’t have commented on this in the first place without knowing all the details. The sheriff press conference was talked about and replayed on two radio morning shows I listened to on my commute and it sounded pretty bad.

I’m very happy this thread has continued as these topics need to be discussed until we find a solution. The incident not so much, we need to talk about the root cause and how we move forward and protect our children.

Most officers are trained to wait for backup. They sign up to face very dangerous situations but they also have to think about what would happen if they were taken out of the situation at that time. Was it the smartest thing to run up to him and engage him or lay and wait for a opportunity to surprise him. After all one shot from that rifle would go right through any body amour he was wearing.

Once again, I know nothing of the situation and if he ran to the parking lot and hid behind a car then yes, he should be let go and this was obviously the wrong profession for him. I guess I assuming to many things without knowing all the facts so I out on this for now until more comes out. One thing I’ll still say, a properly trained and armed security staff would limit a lot of these incidents. Properly trained and staff (plural) are the key words.
