I’m down 30lbs in the last 3 months mainly from eating low carb and just a bit of intermittent fasting. There’s a lot of great ways to treat diabetes so I’m not saying this would work for you but it’s worth looking into. One of the best books I’ve read on the subject is The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung. Its main focus is intermittent fasting, but I found his explanation of how the body handles sugars, carbs, insulin, etc. to be very thorough and convincing. It might be a book worth looking at or checking out from the library as another tool in your arsenal.

    Good luck!

I have a 2022 Ridgeline. I haven’t used it for towing since I sold my boat a few years ago, but I wouldn’t hesitate to tow what you’re looking to tow. I’m very happy with the truck. My favorite feature is the large lockable trunk that you access from the rear of the bed.

Love that color. The lockable truck is pretty sweet. Do you ever send that thing through some deep snow to see how it handles it? My current CRV is pretty good in snow and I would assume the ridgeline is even better.

This is my first winter with it and I haven’t had it out in any real deep snow, but it’s handled everything I’ve driven in just fine.

I don’t take it off road much either. I’ve used the bed mainly for hauling a couple of kayaks and various loads from fleet farm type places. It’s nice that it has 50” between the wheel wells in the bed so 4×8 sheets fit flat as well.

I’ve never owned a full size truck but the Ridgeline fits all my needs. I don’t plan on ever towing over 5k and the payload for the bed is enough for whatever I would haul in the bed. It drives and rides like an SUV so it’s a very comfortable vehicle.

I guess I’m not sure if its called fasting but I do the same thing. I am really only a dinner eater my self. Always have been this way. On the weekends I might have a big brunch after fishing but those days I also feel like I need a nap.
I drink a cup of coffee in the morning with a couple bottles of water some times as of lately I’ll have a little egg thing my lady bakes for meal preps that is 1 egg with onions and peppers and 1 sausage patty in a cupcake tray. I eat that on my way to work and never bring a lunch. Then eat a regular dinner at 6 or 7pm. But I’ve done this for many many years. I’m not sure if that’s considered fasting. If it is then I’d recommend it because I feel healthy and fit everyday. Also a gallon of water every day

That sounds like intermittent fasting to me. There are all kinds of schedules for fasting. 16:8 is eating 2 meals in an 8 hour period and fasting for 16 hours, essentially skipping breakfast. A 24 hour fast is essentially eating one meal each day and fasting until the same time the next day. 36 hour fast is basically not eating from dinner on day 1 to breakfast time on day 3. You can still drink coffee and tea during the fasting time, just don’t add a lot of cream or any sugar. There a endless combo’s of fasting schedules and some do it once a week, or a few days a week or all the time.

My understanding is the fasting time gives your body time to use up the energy provided from your last meal and when that is used up, your body begins to use stored energy (fat). By eating 3 meals a day and snacks in between, your body doesn’t get a chance to switch over to using stored energy, it has a constant supply of food to use and never giving your body a chance to stop producing insulin.

It is more complex than this with what the body does with food and during fasting though when it comes to energy expenditures. But I’m on board for giving an intermittent fasting regimen a try and see it goes for me. I’m down 8 pounds in my short use of it so far. I’m hopeful long term results will be good as well.

As an alternative, take a look into intermittent fasting. I just finished a book called the Obesity Code and it was fascinating to read the science behind fasting and how it affect insulin levels and hormones. I am just starting a fasting regiment so can’t speak to long term results yet but there are plenty of success stories doing a search and my short time on it has been a success.

It essentially debunks what we’ve been told since the 70’s, that you need a low fat diet, eat meals and snacks throughout the day and that calories in vs calories out is what determines weight loss. The book states this works in the short term but for the vast majority of people needing to lose weight, you eventually gain the weight back due to multiple reasons.

Anyway, I’m no expert but found the science of metabolism and hormones outlined in the book very interesting.

Apparently there will be like 6 or 7 games this year for the Wild that are exclusively on ESPN+, which sucks if you don’t have a subscription already.

We just adopted a poodle mix a couple weeks ago and primarily used Petfinder to search for dogs. We had to go up to the Brainerd area to get him. Due to allergies we need hypoallergenic which is harder to find in adoptable dogs. He’s about 1.5 years and gets along great with our 3 year old labradoodle.

With bare aluminum you’ll want to make sure to use a self-etching primer first to ensure the paint adheres properly.

I tried to get the married fishing license online this year and it couldn’t pull up any info for my wife. It said she needed to call or go in person to get added to the system. She doesn’t fish but I have always bought the combination license just in case. It wasn’t worth the hassle so I just bought an individual license. I’d be curious to find out how much revenue they lose with people in my situation doing the same thing and saving $15. Maybe they make up for it and more with duplicates etc. I guess it’s not my problem to deal with.

Is this only a FSN issue or are all regional fox sports channels in the country not streaming?

Sinclair bought the regional sports channels from Fox. My understanding is these issues are with all of the channels so fans in other markets are having the same issues watching their teams.

I’ve jumped around streaming options as well the last couple of years following where I could get FSN for the best price. I’ve had YouTube TV for the past year or so and am frustrated by the lack or or intermittent access to FSN. I had hoped once the NHL/NBA seasons started back up that a deal would be made to get it back on the air.

I get my internet thru Spectrum, so I decided to call today and see what my cable TV options were. The cheapest plan includes FSN so I was able to get it bundled with my internet for $45 more a month. I just signed up today so I am not sure how well the service will go but it is not on a contract and we can cancel anytime. We do get a cable box with a DVR and they have streaming app as well to watch on mobile devices, etc. We’ll see how it goes and hopefully I have a steady FSN source for now.

Just remember that they have to be no wake within 150 feet of shore and can only operate between 930am and 1 hour before sunset.

Yeah, I guess that would be a limitation due the time restrictions. Do you know the reason for the time restriction? Is it noise?

Cool on the corn snake. I’m not into snakes. This one is not a corn snake but it’s cool to see. It’ll be around hopefully for more years

Yeah, those are timber rattlers if I’m not mistaken. Cool to see them out and about.

This is our first go at a snake as a pet. Hopefully a good experience.

    KG,
Which Lunker 16′ do you have now? There’s a 100+# weight difference between them.

Anyway, I’ve been thru this 60hp tiller combination a couple of times now, you REALLY need to minimize your hull weight, preferably no more than 800#, even less if you always fish with 3 on board. As mentioned in the above post, the 165 Comp would still be under-powered, even with a 60 on it.

    HRG

I currently have the Lunker LTD model, the heavier one with a max 45hp rating. The 30hp I have on there now performs to my satisfaction without any issues.

As much as I’d like to upgrade now, it seems best to wait until I can get the right boat/motor combo from the start.

Thanks for the replies. I figured that the consensus would be to wait, but it’s fun to think about a new boat.

From specs, it appears the Competitor boat would be 357 lbs more (920 lbs total) in dry weight and I guess that is too much for a 30hp.

I can keep saving until the right scenario presents itself.

I’ve got a Toro 32” zero turn for a lawn about the same size. I have the bagger as well but have mainly used that for leaves. The mower has worked well for me especially with having some knee and back issues. One thing I also like about it is I can pull an aerator or dethatcher behind it to do some more lawn maintenance.

If any of you like Sherlock Holmes stories, Larry Millet wrote 6 books of Sherlock Holmes in Minnesota mysteries. They take place in the 1890’s in Minnesota. Good stories that incorporate historical Minnesota. Fun to read about the twin cities and greater MN during that time. He’s also written and number of nonfiction historical books on Minnesota.

I sold my 1995 40hp Mercury 2 stroke 4 cylinder oil injected tiller motor with power tilt/trim this spring for $1700 in less than 24 hours on Craigslist. Replaced it with a 30hp Suzuki 4stroke after replacing the rotten transom I found after remove the Mercury outboard.

    Hey Everyone,

Got a 2004 Crestliner Angler 1600 SC with a transom that is rotting. I’ve been reading a lot about this and it seems I have two options. Spend some time and fix it myself or take it somewhere and spend even more money. Does anyone have any experience with either. I’ve called a couple marine places and am having a hard time finding someone that does it. Any references or advice is greatly appreciated. I just wanna go fishing.

I just replaced my transom this spring on a 1995 Alumacraft Lunker 16ft tiller. Haven’t got it on the water yet as I am finishing up wiring on a new trolling motor. Took me a couple of weeks to finish it. Pretty labor intensive, but I’m an accountant by trade and was able to do it all myself with the tools I have with the exception of needing 2 sets of hands a couple of times.

Not that they are manly by any stretch of the imagination but…. we have 2 shih tzus and they are great dogs.

I’ll 2nd that. We had 2 of them when I was growing up and now I have one of my own with my family. I am allergic to dogs that shed and cats, but I have no problems with our shih tzu. Good combo of great temperament and no shedding.
