When I was a kid – 50 years ago I loved the old Herters catalog. I got my dad to buy a fish call from it. It was a sealed tin can with a bell in it. It was weighted on one side. The line attached to the weighted side so when you tugged on it, the can would rotate a half turn, causing the bell to ring. I don’t think it made the fish bite, but we sure had them thinking it was time to go to church!

Steve, I am glad you mentioned Sheephead…. Do you have much luck with them as fresh cutbait? Where do they stack with suckers/bullheads/shad and other legal cutbait in MN?
Sheepies would be the most avaiable fresh bait for me!
March 24, 2014 at 1:26 pm #1398872Had mine back in ’91. Instant relief. Had the surgery the day before Thanksgiving – back to work the Monday after. No problems since then.
March 24, 2014 at 1:23 pm #1398871Duluth Trading. high quality everything. Great customer service too.
March 6, 2014 at 11:37 am #1394402I thought that what you have in your freezer counts towards possesion limit. If you took a hundred sunnies and fileted them and put them in your freezer, wouldn’t you be in violation of possesion limit – regardless if it was promiscuous fishing or not?
March 5, 2014 at 9:57 am #1393984How does possession limit work when a lake opens to this sort of thing? I have always understood that what you have in your freezer counts to overall limit. If you filled up the freezer and somehow ended up getting checked, how could you prove that what you had was not caught during promiscuous fishing?
February 13, 2014 at 5:18 am #1388275I used to live in Kansas a long time ago. They would sell feeder goldfish in the baitshops. That’s what we’d usually bait trotlines with.
February 11, 2014 at 6:35 am #1387720Mike, I’m kinda think the same thing, but, then, I think about all of the tons of catfish harvested south of here. Farmed Cats must have some quality issues too. I might continue to let all my friends from my urban hotspot go. I can get an eater or two when I go to the upper St Croix!
January 21, 2014 at 5:27 am #1381331Len, I always enjoy your photos and comments about trout. I envy your skills! Do you ever get out west to some of the blue ribbon streams to see if your Midwest tourt expertise translates to those western fish?
December 19, 2013 at 4:40 pm #1372890Ditto on the Hackenmueller ham – – awesome. Got my whole ham today – also a couple of stuffed pork chops (big as hub caps!). A fresh Swedish sausage too. Loves me some Hackenmuellers!!!
October 11, 2013 at 11:27 am #1199681It won’t be long before we have 9 year olds stealing delivery trucks, running them into squad cars, sneaking past TSA and getting on airplanes without a ticket…. Oh, wait, we’ve already got that. I live in Burnsville. Three murders within a mile of my house this summer. Thank goodness for CCW!
October 11, 2013 at 11:19 am #1199677I had Lumbar Laminectomy (L4/5) in ’91. I have been tip-top since then. Yours sounds more extensive.
October 8, 2013 at 2:44 pm #1199146I’ll bet it is delicious. I will be on the lookout. For me, when it comes to beer like things, the closest I can come to perfection is Belgian Chimay. For me, this is proof that a kind and merciful God exists.
October 5, 2013 at 11:09 pm #1198652It is my understanding – I may be wrong. The seat license goes to Wilf. That reduces his contribution. It does nothing to reduce taxpayer confiscation.
October 4, 2013 at 11:25 am #1198416It was good to watch this on the news last night and see good old Ted Mondale front and center….. Slimy to the max. The Governor picked Teddy to push this through. Does anybody know how deep and how far back Ted goes with our own home grown con man, Tom Petters?
September 26, 2013 at 2:04 pm #1196927I have three French Bulldogs. One of them recycles like that. What a treat…
September 24, 2013 at 7:05 pm #1196591Ha! Brings back memories of when I was a kid. We used to bike down to Como Lake in St Paul and catch huge goldfish. I wonder if they are still in there….
September 18, 2013 at 11:20 am #1195506I don’t think any of the slobs who litter like that frequent this site. I sure hear you though. The garbage left at the community spots is sad – very sad…
August 15, 2013 at 11:46 am #1189701Smack Shack, just north of JD Hoyt’s on Washington Ave. Lobster Rolls, Po’ Boys, Lobster Guacamole. Awesome!
August 9, 2013 at 3:17 pm #1188740I know why they want you to come in person…. Sales always wants customer to make some kind of effort/investment in their product. It’s a lot harder to turn away from a counter offer if you have invested the time to come in person to see something.

Better to be listening to that drama than having two lesbians taking turns in the room next door…. I thought 1 turn each was enough, but 4 turns each???
They don’t have the built in “kill-switch” we do….
July 25, 2013 at 11:35 am #1185528Can we expect to see this during the first quarter of the Super Bowl?
July 9, 2013 at 3:55 pm #1182391When I was a kid stationed at Ft Riley, KS, one of the favored baits was Shad Sides. They were rotten, stinky things. I forgot a jar (lid tight) on the porch. It literally blew up. What a freaking mess that was!
May 15, 2013 at 10:21 am #1170914I tie a lot of micro jigs. 1/124th, 1/100th oz (you can get the jigheads at Thorne Bros). Maribou, Krystal flash, bucktail, fin racoon – – tons of good body material. The light jigs cast just fine.
