I have the same size garage as yours with exception I have
a 11 ft. ceiling. It is all insulated with R50 in the
ceiling. Have the Hot Dawg 75k and it does a great job.
Keep the thermo set at 58 and when I want to work on the
boat turn up to 62 and in about 10 min. or less its warm.

Guys thanks for all the positive infor. I knew I could get help. This is a great sight. As far as what Iam looking for speed is not required because I am coming from a 70 mph bass boat(sold it) to a jet powered kayak and alum style fishing boat. Needed to change with 5 grandkids. Needed
more room in the boat and not traveling as far to fish anymore. So if this deal does’nt work out please keep me in mine if you know of someone that might sell their boat. I would be looking for alum rig 16′ -17′ steering or tiller in the range of 2000 – 2003 yr 50 – 75 hp.

    Thanks Guys,

Stuart – I ordered two Mokai’s and they will be built this week. Ordered them with the front mounted anchor’s. I got them before the price increase. Now I’am having a problem getting the correct trailer for hauling two side by side. I have been looking at PWC trailers. Can’t wait for them to get here but they will have sit until next spring to use them. Plan on using the MOKAI’S on small to medium rivers for Smallie fishing here in eastern Iowa.

I have a Jeep GC Limited with a 5.7 Hemi. Around town it’s 15-16 and on the highway short runs 19 and longer trips 20-21, this is at 1800rpm = to 68mph. When I pull my Ranger bass boat it’s a steady 14mpg. I have a K/N filter and run synthetic oil and I check my tire pressure to make sure it is at max air pressure.

Jon, my son and I were at McBride
Saturday from 7:30 to 1:30 and saw the same thing. Houses all along the shore over brush. Guys started pulling out around 11:00 saying they caught nothing but dinks or nothing at all. We set up out deeper in 22′ over brush and started catching crappies at 16′ to 18′. Caught 40 to 50 and took home a dozen with 10″ and 11″ crappies in the mix of whites and black crappies. My son was using a spoon tipped with waxies and I used a Gill Pill tipped with two waxies. It was a great day to be out on the ice.

I’am going down in mid April also. Last year in mid April the spawn was going strong. Caught a ton of Spots and LM on the White River and up the James. The best locations were the back half of deep water coves in the trees. The fish were up shallow (4′ to 12′). Started out with a Shakey worm and when that bite turned off switched to a Senko. Learned how to sight fish for bedding fish using a white tube bait. Hersh

Fished the Maquoketa River today and caught some nice Smallmouth on tubes and crankbaits. Had to leave when it started to pour down rain(forgot my rain gear).

Bob I have the X-135 in the bow of my Ranger bass boat. I really like the unit. It has great picture detail in the readouts. I really like it when I’am down on Table Rock Lake Mo. and dropshotting in 30 to 60′ of water. You can see the bass hugging the bottom and watch them streak up to my bait and fish on. By the way I’am headed up to Hackensack tomorrow for a week. My family and I are staying on Webb. I would recommend a buy on this unit if you are looking for very detailed readouts.

Guys you didn’t mention the Cedar river. From the Minn. border down it is a great Smallie river. My son and I have found that if you work the feeder steams you may hit the mother load filled with Smallies. Our best day on a small creek produced 68 Smallies up to 19″. This location was seven miles from the main river channel. We have had many 20 to 40 CPR days on small creeks. The best part is there is no one else around. I also fish all of the mentioned locations you guys fish plus Central City below the dam. Our go to bait on the small streams has been a Kalin 3″ grub on a 1/8 oz. Owner Jig. The best color is Pumpkin green flake with salt/pepper. We tip the tail with Spike-It orange. Our backup is a Tube or Mepps in-line spinner. When I’am fishing the main rivers I throw a Bandit crankbait 90% of the time. The other 10% I go to a larger tube or grub 4″-5″. With the C/B I also catch a lot of eye’s and Northerns. Maybe we should hookup and spend a day fishing.

Looks similar to the Cool Hub lubricaton system that I have on my Ranger boat trailer. I have about three thousand miles on mine no problems. I don’t miss having to grease the wheel bearings. The viewing window on the hub does not stain so you always have a clear view.

Gianni, that’s what my son (JPHersh22) and I have been doing. Hit the ponds. We have caught Gills up to 10″,Crappie 13″, four to five lb. cats and last week I iced a five+ Bass. This time of year go to the deepest water you can find. All of the above fish came out of 12′ to 14′ of water. Good Luck.

King, three of us fished Belva Deer yesterday and had 10+” of ice. Water was coming up around the trees as we fished. Iced 17 8″-9″ Gills out of 14′ of water. Also caught a few Bass. Arrived there about 6:30am and pulled out about 10:30am. Headed for Keomah, we had been told of big Gills being iced. There was to much open water for us (didn’t look safe)and we didn’t see any drill holes. Went on to Lake Darling and that was a bust. Ice was safe 10+” but nothing but very very small gills and crappies. Big open water at the dam and another open area at the first point south of the dam. Lots of water sitting on top of the ice. First time I have fished and had water running back into the hole. Have not heard of anybody doing very good on Bride.

Fished below Quasqueton and Central City on Tuesday. Caught Smallies 14″ to 17″ on Bandit crankbaits. Water is dark in color and the river is dropping.

I have used a product called Nautical Ease Water Spot Remover that was recommended on this site. This is the best product I have ever used for spot removal. When I would come back from Table Rock Lake which is very hard water I just spray on N-Ease and wipe off and the engine cowling and lower unit looks like it has never been in the water.

I have the same problem with an two year old Avid rod that my son-in-law was using. It was pretty funny to see him standing in the back of my boat with the reel between his feet and a nice bass on the other end of the line and him saying “What do I do now?”

When I’am fishing The Rock I target Smallmouth bass first then Spotted bass. It took alot of adjustment to learn how to fish this lake because of the depth. Most of my bass have come out of 20 ft to 60 ft of water. This spring because of higher water the best depth was 31 ft with a dropshot presentation on main lake points. I also heard that the eye fishing is improving. Alot of bass fisherman are catching them in the upper James. I have heard of 10 lb+ fish being caught. I also fish Beaver Lake in Ark. and have fished Bluffends sitting in 210 ft of water.

Great to hear from you guys so soon. I fish The Rock once in the spring April-May then again in October. We stay in the Aunts Creek Arm of the James River. I fish the White River and James River. As for my boat we recovered it and it is setting in storage waiting for repair. They used a crowbar on the lids. The lids are all bent and locks are smashed. The sad part is because I was concerned about this very thing happening I was removing my rods/reels, bike seats, and other items and leaveing the compartments unlocked but they still broke into them. The ins. is going to cover the repair costs (all new lids) but I’am out about $1500 on the equipment that was stolen because my house hold policy has a $500 deduct and they(Ins. Co.)would apply a 35% surcharge for the next three years to my household policy because of this claim.
