Was there yesterday afternoon. 6-8 in. of ice, 6″ sloppy snow on top. The edges have 4 to 5″ of water out to 20 yards from shore. Snow is melting quickly. Fishing sucked.

I bought 2 extra breech plugs, reasonable price on amazon & other sites, just switch them out after a couple shots. 209 is a great powder, easy clean.

In last couple weeks 2 Harbor Freight chargers have failed; wiring melted, shorted out. Could be super cold weather. Have replaced with cheap Amazon ($2 off coupon) for same price as HF chargers. Seem to be better, at least they have a smiley face led. 2014 Kawi Mule, plow snow, use all year a lot. Original Yuasa battery that I keep on a float charger when not in use. The fried wiring did not ruin the battery, cannot say enough about Yuasa batteries.

If you are planning on having children, do not go with the 3 legged option (think of the stools available from Eskimo). Take it from an old man, in a permanent stand a well lubricated office chair with arms is the only choice. That said,on a temporary stand a back rest is great. Go with a lightweight option.

North WI (Mason & Barnes area) starting to heat up, had a basket 8 try to mount my decoy Sunday. He really looked surprised when she fell over. Starting to hit the scrape lines, big ones still nocturnal.

I have had Directv @ my house & cabin 200+ miles away since the early 2000’s, Auctions & rummage sales for the dishes, said I needed an extra receiver for the spare room, works well. If you don’t want to mount the dish permanently, put it in a lawn chair facing south. I’ve used this set-up in deer camps too.

Another note, the main channel below L&D #7 is open, east channel is opening up, & open water below the spillway on the Black River. Spud your way across the ice if fishing any current areas.

The old Garmin chips show several holes over 10′ in the lake, crappies have been turning on the last few days. Several in the 12 to 13″ range, red plastic on a 2mm gold tungsten head has been very effective. Really, really, small presentation.

Been using a showdown troller for years, wet towel over a scupper hole for the transducer & a mount on the side for the unit. Uses 6 AA batteries or plug into 12 volt.

Cut a pair of inserts out of foil bubble insulation, reflexit or whatever it’s called. It will keep you feet alot warmer. Put it under the felt liners.

I have the Cabela’s, the gloves are hard to start, have to turn on / off 2 or 3 times to get going, cold thumb, even tho supposedly heated. Ordered the choppers (mittens), really like them, slot to get your index finger out to shoot on deer stand, easy to take on & off for fishing & waterproof. You might save a few bucks watching the sales, these are less than your price mentioned.

I run a Kawasaki Mule with a cab, the best thing I’ve found is a piece of black rubber roofing. Use it winter & summer, keeps snow out when cold & dust off when not. Best thing, doesn’t flap around like plastic tarps.

I’ve done this before. Use a cordless drill & diamond dust bit. Submerge the bottle in a bucket of water. Go slow, the water keeps the glass cool.

I’ve run that setup for years, my old Tanaka 262 and the 6″ or my 8″ Lazer. Starts easy, cuts fast, plenty power for thick ice. I use Saber oil for the mix, never have had a problem starting or running all day.

I roll them from the funnel onto a vacuum cleaner hose wand. Slips over any handle to put them where you need.

Is anything happening on the South Shore? Reports from Middle River to Corny said every thing from “no fish” to known liars saying “you should have been here a couple of days ago”. Maybe I shouldn’t get info from local watering holes.

We were in Iron River, 50 mi north of Hayward last night, over half inch of rain, temps in the 50’s snow is almost gone, the snowmobile trails are closed. Fished in Barnes/Gordon area on the lower Eau Claire Lake crappies are hitting. Ice approx 18″. Temps are supposed to be in 60’s for the next week.
