Personally I run both, I sold my 900xp ranger with tracks to purchase a 1000xp crew with tracks. I prefer running the ranger, I fish Lake of the Woods or Winnipeg 3-4 days a week. When I’m fishing the south shore I prefer the ranger as I fish out of the door until I find a good school of fish and then set up camp. I bought a snowmobile for the long runs and early ice. The tracks do a great job of spreading out the weight, but I am much more comfortable running across the lake aimlessly on a snowmobile. I also picked up the sled as we make lots of long runs and the ranger at 20mph vs the sled at 40-60mph saves a lot of time when running 20-30 miles.

If you have any questions let me know.

The majority of the time it will be left at Lake of the Woods, I like the idea of having the wheelhouse to run down to red for years like this when red has fishable ice and we are still a week to 2 weeks away from fishing the west side of the lake safely. The only time it would be slept in is if we went to another lake for the weekend.

Thanks for the insight, I already have a 6×10 skid just looking for something with more creature comforts but the ability to still be mobile on the ice. I think we will try a smaller ice castle and see how we like it. I will post my thoughts on it once I pick one up.

I should add that I do have a large ice castle that never leaves shore. It’s used as a base camp, I’m looking for something that can be pulled with the ranger or moved to other lakes.

Thanks, I called the boat center and that plate is exactly what I was looking for.

I am bringing back this old thread. I love seeing everyone’s setups.

Just brought home this 2011 Wx1850, and have since added 2 HDS-9s and a used T8 kicker. I am very impressed with this boat, I was nervous about going smaller as I had a WX2000T previously. This boat feels larger when trolling and handles great.

I am sure plenty of you have upgraded or changed boats since this thread was last posted on. Let’s see your new setups.

This is my work in progress, there is always something you can improve on these machines but I have this pretty well set up for my needs.

I run my HDS-9 Touch in my ranger, I wound up buying a lowrance gimbal bracket and bolted it to the roof to allow the lowrance to hang down. I cut 2 slits in the fabric roof to allow the HDS screws to screw into the HDS. I have tried the dash and the cupholder mounts and it seems to vibrate too much for my liking.

The best way I have found to power these units is to hardwire the power cable into the machine. There is a wire block underneath the front hood, there is both keyed power and constant power in that block. We run all the machines off the keyed power, just leave the machine running until you need to shut the graph off. Running the cigarette lighter plugs are fine, but the fuses tend to fall out or the plug breaks in the winter. Always had to keep 2-3 cables in the cab before I hardwired the unit.

I run a 2000t, it came with a 24v terrova w/o ipilot. I upgraded to a 36v system because it cost me $800 out of pocket to go to a 36v motorguide xi5 and a 36v vantage. It’s not needed but I couldn’t find used 24v motors when I was looking to upgrade. Now that I have had both on this boat I wouldn’t go back. I can run longer and it’s really nice not plugging in every night or worrying about a dead battery.

I am on the road now, I will take pictures and figure out a price tomorrow when I get home if that is alright.

Thanks for the help, I found out with plenty of patients I can get it into my 21′ apartment garage on my own. Definitely do not want to do that every Sunday night when I get home.
