What kind of boat are you out on mille lacs in that swamps that easy? Definitely upgrade your bilge pumps.

It was the way the wake hit me. It hit me from the front first tipping the rear of my boat down when the rear wave hit the back of my boat. All that water came right over the top of transom. Now I’m lower in the water with 6″ of water in the back of my boat, when the exact same thing happened again. All this happened is seconds. By now I’m so low in the water the third wave had no trouble coming in. After it was all done the water was above my floor decking. It scared the day lights out of me. I never knew something like that could happen. I’ve been in some rough water with that boat and it has handled it like a champ. It was like this guy knew what he was doing and knew what was going to happen.

    This statement is concerning.

“Mandatory inspections, education, more teeth in fines, I think we should be looking at all of those things, and maybe more. I am just starting my education, but I do want to be a stronger advocate on this issue.”

Guys you all put a smile on my face with your posts… All good stuff… I think more than anything I was embarrassed for my friend. I wanted him to come up there and be impressed. Instead he walked away with a different perspective than I had hoped.

For the record I’ll own the turn signal thing. The Triton Guy is the one that burned me the most. If I had had one more wave my boat would be on the bottom of Garrison Reef right now. It helps knowing you guys agree that was a dick move.

    Thanks.

Yeah, that definitely sounds like a real d*ck move on his part and unwarranted. Perhaps he was irritated that you had trolled by him and then stopped and packed up just after you got past him.

I agree with Crappie and Werm that sometimes things just happen. But I do highly encourage you to use your turn signal, especially when pulling a boat. I mean, it is a law and they’re there for a reason.

I know I know… The wife said the same thing. LOL… About the pulling the boat that is.

Yup, could be just a random bunch of events that leave you scratching your head, could be a common denominator. If you are close enough to a boat for them to swamp you, you are too close. And you should use your turn signal, they might be more particular about that in that area since Johnson’s Portside ends each video with “Don’t forget to use your signal…”

Yes another fair statement there Bigwerm. I passed him by 55 or 65 yards. He was anchored I was trolling. We continued down another 50 or 60 yards and stopped to bring in our lures and planer boards and call it a day. He was facing north, huge triton bass boat. He dropped the throttle and broke right. This outboard just roared he was so deep into the throttle… He made a complete circle around us and then busted ass north again. The wake came over the back of my boat 3 times. My bilge instantly kicked in and started pumping water. I had taken on so much water the float switch kicked in. I was in complete shock.

That’s a fair statement Cappie55369 but it only has to do with Mille Lacs… Every other forum I belong to, every other lake I’ve gone to never have I had the experiences I’m having now.

It has to be me. Perhaps I do need to learn some tact. I just find it odd it never happens anywhere else.

I’m with with eelpoutguy. People are wrecking it. LOL….

Heading up Friday June 14th for the week with a buddy of mine. Will be fishing for what is biting for the most part. However I have all my gear ready for some musky fishing so we will go gunning for those some too to get the kinks worked out. Anyone going to be in the area that week or over the weekend for some beverages? IM me if you want to try to get together.

Great stuff Grouse. It’s a briggs and stratton. The carb does not have a float. It has that little paper diaphragm thing with a gasket.

yet another good point Bigcrappie… Youtube IS a good resource. I’ve learned how to smoke ribs, tie texas and caralina rigs, restore my boat and repair my car over the years from Youtube. LOL…

He put the carb back together wrong, the chasing up and down has to do with the spring being hooked into the right hole on the carb and the lever on the side of the block. This keeps the rpms at a set speed with out you could over rev the motor.

I’m trying to remember myself now Bigcrappie. I think there was only one way to connect that rod. I think I know exactly which one you’re talking about too… I tried putzing with that and it didn’t seem to do anything constructive. I tried taking the spring off and seeing if it did anything… and that didn’t help. I tried moving it manually and that didn’t help. Unless the spring and rod are on the wrong ends of the cam. The weird part is it ran fine at home. As soon as we brought it to the lake the bottom fell out.

You can assume that if you like. However if you miss your only chance at a <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>muskie because of dull hooks you might question what were you thinking. grin

Yeah the questioning what i was thinking happens often. LOL…

Do I dare assume on all new tackle the hooks are sharp enough or should I inspect them?

Inspect them all. Run the hook across your finger nail. If it scratches it without adding pressure it is sharp. About 30% of my muskie stuff is sharp “enough” right out of the box.

    Nice trick… I’ll do that… Thanks Rodwork.

This will be my first year as well. Missed the opener but plan to get all the new gear wet the week of June 17th through the 21st on Mille Lacs. I’m going to be trolling spinners and spoons at first I think. Maybe switch to cranks or swimmers if need be. I’ll be attempting Planner Boards too. Do I dare assume on all new tackle the hooks are sharp enough or should I inspect them?

I like the way Glenn57 thinks.

Also I agree with everyone on depth. When I get to the lake and ask the resort owner what depth everything is biting at I just grab those boxes and put them in my tackle bag.

So BoatsHateMe? Does that mean your true dad bod is more of a 3xl rather than a 2xl? LOL…

My t-shirts are 2xl but using the sizing chart picked the xl. I’ll be exchanging it for the 2xl very soon.

Coming up this weekend and staying the entire week up there. Plan to give Garrison Reef a run for it’s money. Maybe venture up the shoreline to Myr Mar Reef and check that out. Anyone fished either of those lately? Anything working better than others. What’s been the depth? Gunning for Walleye and Bass.

Thanks Superdave that’s good to know. Do you by chance know what they used to weight them down with? Or how much weight?

Thanks guys. Matt the website states several channels should be receivable in Garrison. But I wonder how high I need to be.

Jon I’m mostly interested in getting news and weather most of the time. Only plan on being the RV on raining days and on the lake the rest of the time. LOL…

Database sent Matt. You are spot on that it will need to be searchable. That is an area I’m a little weaker on but I’m going to try to do my best. I am open to any suggestions you may have regarding searches.

What would it do that putting pics in a folder on the computer couldn’t? Curious what your database does…can u explain?

Well I have created 3 catagories.

One is Boat. In that you can log the hull number and other details pertaining to your boat, then there is Outboard to log the vin#, Oil Filter #, Gas Filter# and so on for you outboard, next is Trailer to log it’s Vin# wheel base, bearings numbers and so on. All of which have a spot for pictures of each item.

The next one is Gear to log all your serial #’s, purchase cost, warranties and so on. Along with pictures.

Then I added a fishing log to log the fish you catch, time of day, wind, weather, location, lures used and so on. along with pictures.

I’ll attempt to attach some screen captures.

    Heads Up!!!

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office is saying they will not be able to get all the buoys out before the opener so use caution and know not all the shallows will be properly marked.
