Go on “The Hull Truth” website, this topic has thousands of threads and opinions. My 300 has 300 hours still making oil. It gets run hard when possible but where I fish the big bodies of water keep the throttle pulled back. Mine spins up to 5900 rpm. There is a design flaw in this motor. Like it or not that’s the fact. I repowered my Pursuit with twin 250 Mercs. Trolling day after day no oil making issues. My Yamaha is a great motor but doesn’t inspire confidence when you go 40 miles to camp one way and wonder if the film strength is being deleted in the oil.

Russ and his staff are great to deal with. Russ also very generous with the community fund raisers of all types. MG stands behind what they sell even it goes south out of warranty. I have only positive things to say in 42 years of buying from them.

The wolves need to be reigned in. They have about eliminated the moose, deer and now most beaver ponds are dead up on the North Shore.

White is the best color to jig with on Lake Superior. Fish structure on top when the bite is fast. Slide off the top as the bite slows. Don’t stay on one spot to long, ussually after 3-4 you must move around the structure. Chop and overcast keep the fish around longer as they do spook off. Us an electric if possible. Smelt produce smaller fish and herring get bigger fish. White tube jigs also work. Look for herring schools when snooping around.

The equipment your using for rod/reel/line is spot on. We use lead head jigs 2-3 oz from Marine General.

Watch for current, its easy to see when your jigging. The line gets a lot of blow back. If there is current the LT will get behind rocks on structure like fish in a river and ambush the bait as it goes by.

I hope this helps, it works on the island.

This pic has no meaning as there were no deer in the arrowhead before winter because the Gray Wolf who only eats the old, the sick, the healthy and everything it comes across including moose and dogs has cleaned house.

Both, its been a couple years but at the time it was $28.00 for up to three guns good for ninety days no matter how many times you go there. We would bring a 12 ga pump with buckshot. You will see a lot of bears.

Camping on queens land requires a camping permit for each day there unless you stay on your boat and don’t touch land. I thought it was $10.00 perversion per night. There is a nice campground near Beardmore with hookups showers ect.

There are several nice remote sites but only a few offer 360 degree protection. Bring a chain saw also.

The best ramp is at High Hill Harbor on the east side near Beardmore. They have fuel there but you need to get a hold of someone at the campground for it. 60′ boats launch there. South Bay has another good ramp.
GullBay, SW corner of Murchasion island has a great bay for pike, the mud river on the North end is the best on the entire lake for pike. Chief Bay another great spot. A river on the south end of Macanyre bay is a local favorite also.
Stash fuel along the way if you can for the return trip. Bring a crash bag in case you can’t get back to camp. A shotgun is a must if your camping as you will get occasional black bears creating problems. ( Permit required ($28.00)

50′ of floating rope, whistle, flashlight and flares. The other comments are good also. Several years ago Ontario passed laws requiring the items I listed.

MJM hit the nail on the head. Also if one goes back to the beginning of the invasive species and how they got here very little has been done that has a big impact on the problem. The government agencies inspect boats/trailers at the landings. In the mean time hundreds of thousands of balast water is exchanged daily through the Great Lakes daily. I witness this first hand loading commercial vessels for a mining company. The DNR and the Feds have been watching this happen 60 years.

These are Bennet trim tabs. I went with the largest I could fit the given space. 10″ x 12″

When conditions are bad lighter is better when it comes to slush, snow ect. I got rid of the heavy house and bought a core Core Ice 15′ unit. It exceeds my expectations in its design, simplicity, function and ease of moving on the lake behind a UTV. Just my two cents.

Busy blowing snow or I would have done the pics sooner. I tried to enter them as one file but I don’t play on the computer enough so its one at a time.

You can see the suction hole on the step of the hull, the isolation valve at the top of the bilge access that is open all summer. (Valve) the suction lines are single clamped and the discharge lines double where I could. The pic of the short water line in the starboard upper locker. The pic shows the valve (The line is tucked up at this time) that stays closed unless sucking rv anti freeze, you cut the zip ties nd pull the line into a gallon jug in the fall. Afterwards shut it right away and open the line in the bilge than your ready to use it in the spring. Also where the hose attaches to the gunwale outlet use an attachment that has a small isolation valve built in it.
