Hi Tim, Check out Round lake by Randall on VRBO. Friends own the the cabin there. Been there once and looks like a nice clean place. I hear the panfish are good in the lake. I have to believe the northerns would be also. I don’t know about the walleyes. The lot is very level to the lake and would be an easy to drag your gear out.

Thanks Brian, It’s been getting to the point where I didn’t even want to check IDO. I don’t open them, but definitely missing the hunting and fishing topics.

I have no experience with Ice Cabins, but I know Justin with Up North personally. He will work very hard to keep you on fish and/or give you the best advice he can on where to go with your portables. As others have said, go early, no big secrets on Red Lake. Just get away from the crowds and go on your own. Early ice, sit and be very quite and you will catch fish. I was dumb enough to be out there during the big storm new years weekend and Justin and his crew and Dave with Greater Mn worked very hard getting everybody off. Great guys to work with.

Pull the flywheel and make sure it didn’t snap the “key”. That would put the timing way off.

UPDATE The engine is in and running great. I had to change the flywheel, stator, and stator plate, two exhaust nuts were different size and the intake oil nipple was bigger on the new engine so had to reuse my old one.
Everything else bolted up perfectly and started right up.

If anybody is in the market for a stator and flywheel for a 2009-2014 500HO I have one for sale.

Thanks again for the comments. Randy

Call Quality Trailer in Freeport, MN. Mr. Sand (can’t remember his first name) can get you anything you need. I believe he can ask you all the dimensions over the phone. Very good at what they do.

Well, I’m taking the chance. Engine is on order. I will let everyone know how it works.

Grouse, last question first. It is a genuine Polaris engine.

I agree, I didn’t think it would be worth repowering this old machine, but you know what they say “the customer is always right”.

I will be eating some labor on this but not a bunch. Sometimes you have to do that for good customers.

A lot of activity on here this morning. Does anybody else have thoughts on this. Thanks again.

Thanks for the response guys. I have worked on a lot of 500’s and I do believe the mounts are identical. I too think that they haven’t changed much on these. Usually when you go to buy a part for an older machine the number updates a few times to the current numbers for the newer engines. If anybody else wants to chime in, please do. Thanks again.

In regards to unemployment, currently, if employees file, the employer’s cost of unemployment insurance becomes higher the next 2-3 years!

This will have a lasting impact on may parts of our lives. Scary times.

Correct me if I am wrong, I am pretty sure listening to the news conference last night that they said they would not penalize businesses for employees using unemployment.

Just a quick thought, could be you have a broken or weak clutch spring. It will cause the chain to want to continue even at correct idle and also cause to much drag when the brake is engaged.

Two things you never hear a man say. I wish I would of spent more on my wedding, and I wish I would have built my shed smaller.

cpf792, I’m not sure about the area you have marked, I’ve never seen to many houses in that area. On your map were the e&r are in “Rivers” I have had some success. At the beginning of the west basin the drainage coming from the north is Maus’s creek. In front of there and slightly to the east have had success for crappies and walleyes, also in the fall straight across, from the point to the mouth of two rivers. The hump on the north part seems to always have some sunfish and crappies or by the inflow from the east side. Good luck, let us know how you do.

I haven’t been out there this year yet. Before the forecast I was planning on going this weekend. Several years back it was pretty good on the south end but hasn’t been much for 5 plus years. I would assume they are driving to the north end, just stay left, don’t go by the point. If I hear something before the weekend I will let you know.

Watch out for the narrows straight out from the access. Lots of current, unpredictable ice.

Hi Chris, It looks to me like the rope is wound the correct way. I suspect the problem is in number 12 in the parts breakdown. It is the spring that is attached to the bottom of the drive. It creates drag so the drive ramps up into the flywheel. I would take it off and pinch it together so that it creates more drag. Look forward to hearing what you find.

Check the thermostat. They will spit water but the thermostat can still be bad. You don’t see many of these engines, weren’t terribly popular. Just sent one out of my shop with that very problem.

My reply is we already have and have had it for a long time a law that said no texting and driving. Not even while stopped at a stop light. It has never been enforced. I feel if they would have enforced that law, we would have no need for the new law starting next week.

    Just my 2 cents.

Hey Ron, I’m heading that way on Thursday also. Won’t be on the water until Friday, looks like it will be windy. Where are you staying? We will be at the Thunderbird. If your staying there I will buy one.
By the way, Hi to Wayne. Haven’t been able to hook up with you in a couple of years. But good to see your post.
