Brandmoney: This will be year 29 in BWCA. Plastics work, but not like live bait.

Good point. We’ll drill small holes around the bottom 1/3 of the buckets, rock inside to sink. I’ll probably bring a few of the remaining bait tamers we have just in case for this first year :).

We would plan to tie a rope to the handle and secure the other end on shore. Weighting it down as to not tip and drift is probably the best bet. Thinking I’d get a screw on cap.

Like the 5 gallon bucket idea. Get a 3 gallon bucket for leeches and 5 gallon for the minnows. They fit in packs and would eliminate bait cooler bags. Small holes as to allow for circulation but not for minnow/leeches to escape. Not a lot of fun to pull up outta the water but seems like a positive in all other ways.

If you drilled small holes all the way up and around the bucket would you need a rock to sink it?

The comments and long time story line about teachers compensation and working 9 months a year, limited hours, holidays and weekends off… just bothers me. It completely dismisses the amount of time outside of work that teachers put into their profession. Continuing education, grading papers, creating lesson plans, mentoring student teachers, creating props for plays, the list goes on. Sure, not every teacher does that nor does every person in any other field of work put 100% into every hour they work, and people in other fields may put in hours off the clock as well. Our teachers are taking care of kids, educating those that will come after, it doesn’t make sense to me that they are compensated at the levels most are and also have to deal with the story line of how little they work in comparison. Just doesn’t seem well thought out.

We put small rocks inside the bait wells and sink to bottom. Maybe tieing off some weights heavy enough to hold it under but not on the bottom is the step to Try, like Huntindave references. Huh, kinda like that.

I loved my ego slider rubber net, sadly it was lost in the river during s mishap between my son and I. I have been using a coated ranger net I really like but I need a longer handle.

EGO S2 Slider Large Rubber Landing Net. Like mine, has treated me well for 3 years now.

Update after getting the boat on the water this past weekend.

Two new grp31 DC batteries for trolling motor worked great. I charged it overnight but both days were 8 plus hours with the trolling motor in use often. Never had any issues with losing power.

The new grp31 Dp starting battery worked well but I have a question. Early in day 1 I got the low voltage alarm (under 11, how I have it set) from my graph once, but not again the rest of the weekend. Battery was fully charged to start the day, ran 30 mins up river, usually ran the big motor every 3 hours. Ran two graphs 7 and 12 inch Lowrance TI2’s), two auto recip live wells, and a 12V phone charger plug in to the kid’s phone most of the day. I did adjust the brightness down 1-2 levels on the big graph but any lower is hard to see. While running it shows 13.7v-13.9v.

Had the boat and trolling motor out to Chamberlain fishing walleyes this weekend. A few updates and more questions.

Posted above…my things to do and updates

*Pair Iphone App with TM; software update
    >>>Did this. I paired the phone and trolling motor early in the day. As we were waiting to take the boat out I did a software update from my phone and also on the i-pilot remote. Probably wrong order….see below.

*Pair Heading sensor with TM, calibrate, then heading offset
    >>>First thing I did after launching the boat. Paired easy, did my circles for calibration. The heading offset threw me and I don’t think I did it right, could only find info on doing this with the I-link (different remote). I found the area in options on the remote but how do you know what to set it at???

    *Boat Scale adjustment
    >>>Similar to heading offset, only found how to do this for i-link not i-pilot. The link remotes essentially do it for you, mine gives you options to set it at but how do I know what to actually set it at???

*Learned and have reference guide for Stow Reset and Trim Reset
    >>>Learned it, have mine on a quick release mount and would do that as my option. Fortunately, I didn’t need this and hope to never need this.

New question. I mentioned that I paired the heading sensor and head unit then went fishing, later doing a software update. When I was fishing on day one the autopilot heading option worked well for keeping me on a drift line. Day 1 had stronger wind than day 2. While waiting at the dock to load at the end of day one I did the software update from my phone and from my remote. On day 2 the autopilot heading option had me zig-zagging on the drift line and wasn’t useable. Do I need to do a re-calibration after the software update?

Other question, with trim on the Ulterra, is this something the unit monitors automatically?

Different animal. I’d contact them and let them know you received the wrong item, and get the right item.

Most of it looks pretty friendly, and I’m looking forward to getting out on the water and toying with it. I don’t use the foot pedal and plan to use the iphone app as a backup. I got his unit installed last fall after it was on another boat for 1 year, so not knowing what updates (if any) have been done I thought it may be the right thing to do, if there are updates out there. Heading sensor was installed in the starboard stern.

    Wow…few things to do:

*Pair Iphone App with TM; software update
*Pair Heading sensor with TM, calibrate, then heading offset
    *Boat Scale adjustment
*Learned and have reference guide for Stow Reset and Trim Reset

Learning much from this and some other research, thank you.

Things I need to do with Ulterra:
    *Pair Iphone App with TM
*Calibrate the puck (need to look this up)
*Learn how to do a “reset” for when the TM has an issue with being deployed while moving or in current (need to look this up)

I’ve already downloaded the quick reference guide and will try the jog feature. I did some research on how to auto stow (hope to never have to!) by taking the cover off or the better option for me is to use the quick release mount and bring the whole unit in the boat.

It’s been mentioned that you may need to calibrate the a +1 or -1 for how quickly the boat moves in the jog feature…anybody know more about that???

I’m guessing I could leave it plugged in and it would turn off when I tun the Master Power off. Need to get on the water and use it a bit )

Perfect, thanks Blank. I always unplug the motor when loading up the boat so all should be good. TIme to do some reading on the other differences between a 2014 Terrova and a 2021 Ulterra. I’m excited to have actual “spot lock” vs “Area Lock”, almost as excited as my son is to have auto deploy so he isn’t the auto deploy anymore ) )

Makes sense, so it doesn’t draw battery (or neglibile amount) throughout the day if on but not running/deployed wold be my assumption then. I guess I’m used to when I plugged in the Terrova and engaged the lock to deploy it was “on”. Same difference, I guess…

I prefer cole brew in the warm
Weather (summer) and hot coffee in the cold weather. I use the attached cold brew jug with normal coffee grounds.

Installed and on the trickle charger. Duracell 31DP for starting battery, two Duracell 31DC’s for the trolling motor. $423 for all.

Evaporator and humidity in the vehicle. Roll down windows and turn on vent before putting away as often as possible.

Heck with it, buying all three in 31’s. One Duracell 31 DP for starting and two in the Duracell 31 DC for trolling. Either cut the side lip off the trays or get new ones ($10 each) as there is room in both spaces (Re-measured over lunch… 13.5 so good 1/2 inch at least of space to fit in trolling battery area.
