After hearing some very encouraging reports from Mille Lacs the past couple weeks James and I had a chance to make it up over the weekend. I’ll post a full report as soon as I can get in front of a computer but for now let me just say you may want to think about making a trip to Mille Lacs over the holidays!

PS – don’t forget to tune in this Sunday.

It was great fishing with you, Will. The big fish didn’t surprise me as Mille Lacs rarely disappoints in that department but the number of slot fish we caught did. Will and I kept our 4 with 3 of those taping 19-19.5 inches and released 2 or 3 more in that 19 inch range.

We fished sand in the NE corner of the lake. 17 to 18 feet seemed to be the hot depth.

    Merry Christmas everybody!

Dammit Will, quit holding that fish so close to the camera. Can’t tell if it is 2lbs or 10. lol, Merry Christmas.

I can lend a hand…and some perspective. I’d eyeball that one at 27 inches give or take.

Were you guys using suckers under tipups?

I was actually thinking of heading up before you posted this.

Suckers under tip ups and smaller, fast dropping spoons both put fish on the ice Matt.

I think James is selling is short saying we only released a few, by my count I think we had at least 10 between 18-20″ peace

One big fish came on a tip up and big sucker. Two other big fish and all the eaters came on spoons.

Is it wheeler travel or will sleds run on the lake? Thanks for the quick update…Friday I will be there.

There was just enough snow for sleds on Sunday Scott, but it rained on Monday so wheelers may be a better option if you’ve got them.

Nice job Will and James. Mille Lacs has been taking a public relations beating for quite some time now. I’m glad to see that you guys took advantage of the faithful following you have to spread the word.

It’s great for the resort owners as well and hopefully they will enjoy a spike in business.

How far from shore were you?
I want to go up there but don’t have access to a snowmobile or ATV.
I’m assuming the ice is not ready for automobiles.

I was out again yesterday and with this cold the ice is pretty much ready for vehicles. I would definitely head out thru a resort though just to safely get across any near shore cracks.
