start with easy peasy, fouled plug is a very real possibility. my e-trap comes around everytime. but it’s not a merc.

start simple, then open wallet. these engines run in theeee cleanest enviroment possible so start with plugs-n-oil-n-water, electronics/parts last.

    been there.

hope to see reports, i love going down there when the weather is nice in march, except for the snow geese poopin onya as the flock moves over ya. one year a couple of buddies wondered why i was duckin into my portable. “don’t u want to see this huge flock of geese??”. NOpe. we don’t see snow geese from where i’m from and they soon got the picture.

Use vinyl coated tip up line or u will get wind knots–when fighting your biggest fish ever and your laying it out as u reel it in.

uncoated line will freeze to the ice–when the largest walleye you’ve ever seen takes one last run— causes the hook to pop out of her lip.

uncoated line will burn your finger off— when that 25 pound’r makes her big run and u realize u only have 5 feet of line left before being spooled. your fingers are your drag.

uncoated line will knot up at some point, reference first paragraph–this causes re-checking/re-setting of depth at prime time when multiple flags pop.

Use coated line, the benefits far out-weigh any negatives. use a floro/mono or steel leader also

most common thought that i’ve heard is that fathead minnows wipe them out. don’t know if i buy that but there are not shrimp around like there used to be. my duck boat used to wreak by the end of the season but now its hard to find a slough with them anymore

gotta be food, i think minnesota is pretty much shrimpless now days. thats been my observation while duck hunting, no shrimp anymore. to back up the food link, my cousin took his slough, perch—millions of 3-6 inchers—-and turned them into pole bending terminators by feeding.

sounds like your drill is just hanging up on the last breakthrough. not uncommon and takes some finesse/playing around with that last bit. my only chipper blade years ago would almost snap your wrist off if i didn’t back off the throttle and hold it back when i’d start to feel the breakthrough.

my 10 inch, two blade laser mag would do it too, new and reopening holes. actually unfurled the auger along the flight welds one day.

only my 9 ingh 3 blade laser with the ring around the blades didn’t do it, it’s too bad that design is in the boneyard. it was my favorite but the blades were too fussy.

currently have a 10 inch eskimo two blade with the ring, no longer have the breakthrough problem.

does this bit have a triangle power point? i can’t remember this specific auger. usually the ice/snow makes 360 degree cone around your point reducing the cutting blade’s effectiveness.

also excess ice shavings still in the “hole barrel” can cause the last few inches to be a bear to finish. (chipper blades)
let the flights evacuate the shavings and help it out by lifting the auger up a couple times when drilling thick ice, be “easy” sending back down. don’t impact the ice at the bottom of the hole.

from experience, do not get the little buddy. it won’t be enough in a large thermal, tried it in a friends. he’s going to buy a sunflower. a sunflower puts out way more heat, more than the big buddy.

That being said, i run a big buddy that is almost not enough on cold windy days so i’m trying out a new mod i made to my big buddy.
i retro fitted and eliminated the need for d cell batteries by wiring in two six volt mojo batteries, will jumper them to use my 12 volt vex charger when needed. the batteries fit in one side of the propane cylinder compartment since they never get used.

i don’t have any experience fishing in such a large potable as yours but with the fan i think you’ll happier with the big buddy. going on 10 plus years with my big buddy heater/same flip over and am just getting around to using the fan.

i had clam 8×8 sleeper back in the day and it required a double sunflower to stay warm below 10 degrees and wind, it was not a thermal.

Percy should get the MVP, if only for the nfc north, he allowed the vikes to get into the playoffs. not playin em gave no deep threat or distractions for pondass. short balls and AP baby. good thing we’re play’in the “king cryer” next week instead of “cutlets” and “lovey”.

WHOA, i think “vikes” was the only manly man word typed in that paragraph. GO VIKES!!!!!!HAPPY NEW YEAR

He’s as bad as that “panty waist” from the today show,,,what’shisname,,,,M Lauwer. They can send Buck down the road too. Nothing chaps my hide more than hearing the whiny, snotnosed dribble that comes out of the mouths of people who have never harvested their own meal or participated in the “grind” we watch every sunday, monday sometimes thursday. Which one of the three are vets? who at nbc is a vet? They are correct about one thing, i don’t “need” a firearm to protect my family, but they’r alot more “humane” than the alternative to the SOB i catch in my house.
I don’t know why; at age of 43; that
these tampon wearin makeup freak gets under my skin anymore, but they do. Bring back Madden; makeup and all GD.

i got tired of the line freezing to the ice and line knotting up in pile on the ice when windy. also had my fill of burnt fingers using braids. i go with the plastic coated stuff on my beavers and fly line on the bigger spool tip ups.

long flouro leader with a swivel to connect it.

Guys running braided dacron, do you have to fight wind knots and line freezing to the ice?? Also burning the fingers on a big fish run?

i pull my 7.5 x 20 out every year with a 400 arctic cat. did it once on ottertail about 3 miles w/o a front ski, just the wheeler receiver.

    won’t do that again.

have since made a small platform ski to rest the front on and pull it out with a rope, chains on the wheeler. have to get it out b-4 snow. about three inches, then i have to wait to bring it out with the truck.

Why does the depth read 42 when the bottom looks to be 33-34? It matches the white line.

    becuse its a lowrance
