I’m impressed with the work they have put into designing and fabricating this unit. Can’t be cheap to make. But small market and the other disadvantages have already been stated.
For those that have condisending remarks have you ever tried to take an idea to market? I give an “A” for there efforts, unfortunately probably won’t take off.

Allot of variables. Line stretch, rod action, length of rod, hooks, depth of water (amount of line out),and fish aggression.
Personally I like braid with a 3 foot leader and #8-#10 treble. 32-34” or longer fast action rod. On days when others are letting the fish gullet the bait I have been more aggressive on my time I let them have it and more aggressive on my hookset. I don’t mean set it like a bass fisherman or tarpon but a solid set. My set is probably about 18-24” set but fairly hard. My hookups have been anchoring in the roof of the mouth and no gulleted hooks. I’d rather miss a fish than barrying it in there guts. But this has produced more fish than others around me letting the fish have it longer. Not sure why but it’s working for me. Maybe too much time to feel the hook or taste the metal makes them hold it looser in there mouth.

Zach I would recommend the power precision for spoons and #3 Rippin Raps but if your getting into larger walleyes on a regular basis I would recommend 34” Comander.

The rippin rap did it for me this past weekend on URL. A good 50% of the fish came on them, mainly Pink UV and Blue Chrome.

Just curious what did the other 50% get caught on?

Sure I could be the worlds greatest trailer builder and not get the recognition for it. But am fortunate enough to stick a nice fish before a wonderful friend and top of the line outdoorsman does and I get the title of “turd”. Thanks for a great day Randy rotflol

Ow by the way to stay on topic this girl chased down a #4 glow perch Rippin Rap and made #3 between 27 & 28” this season.

finally caught my first fish on a rippin rap. leading up to it was pretty funny cause my buddy was giving me a hard time about how he thinks these lures don’t catch anything and hes never seen anyone catch a fish on one. We were having a good laugh about it and I had the same sentiments but said I was dedicated to making a go of it. Full Disclosure im about 4 sheets to the wind in this picture

LOL Crappie I’d say this guy out does yours and it’s choking on a #4 Rippin Rap.

Just thought you would find this interesting or surprising when it comes to the Rippin Raps.

I’m also interested in knowing the # test, and type of line that most are using on the stiffer rods with these lures?

    I use 6# braid with a 4# fluorocarbon leader.
Not that a heavier swivel makes allot of difference in this application I always use invisaswivels so that my swivel is neutral boyant. I don’t like the chance of my swivel falling faster than what ever presentation I’m using.

Ah alright thanks. Do you guys mostly just jiggle them off bottom then?

Mikael a post with a video of James is in the earlier posts and I also layed out what I do and others have added to it. Please take the time to go back and read previous replies and then if you need clearer discription report back and I will try to help.

What kind of ice rod are you guys using? I’ve been using a medium light rod and I can’t feel the rippin rap size 3 or the slab rap whatsoever when I jig them. I’ve resorted to other lures on the meantime.

I like a stout rod when using them. I want as much direct control over the action and the ability for a good hook set.
I use a 34” TUCR Comander. It is not unusual to hook into a upper 20” walleye for me in close to 30’ of water. With this setup I am able to retrieve the fish slower as to not blow there blatters. Slowing down is good for the fish and a more memorable experience.

I’ve never used them before, but am going to start. Do you tip them with a minnow head or waxie, or something?

I tried a minnow head and it messes with the actio and turned the fish off. I see above someon said they put waxies on the back hook.

James does an excellent job in this video. My discrption is different than his and I’m good with that. Just shows how you have to play around with what works. But all in all these Baits have upped my fish numbers and make my time on the ice more enjoyable and interactive rather than just waiting for the fish to strike a minnow.

Okay hope this will help, I’ve helped out 4 others work on there technique so far this season and people enturpret things differently. So I hope I can help.
I would say you have four actions to work with.
    1) Ripping the bait upwards.
I do this usuall starting from about 2 foot off the bottom with a 2-3 foot rip. You should be able to feel your bat vibrate as your doing this. Do not do this when your marking fish on your locator. It will usually spook them. It is only used a a attention getter outside of your cone angle.
    2) Jiggling the bait to get your bb’s to rattle. Again this is to draw the attention of fish outside of your cone angle not to be done when your marking fish.
    3) Suttle rocking of your bait. I use this when fish are just coming in and to coaks them into following the lure.(This you will have to play with figuring when to rock and when to just slowly pull it away from them).
    4) once you get them to achnoldge your bait slowely move bait away without triggering bb’s or causing vibration. They will usuall close the distance and ( this is when the fun begins) deal the deal).
You have to play around with these actions as the temperament of the fish will change due to weather patterns and light. Bitter cold yesterday we sometimes had to draw them to the lure and just stop taking it away from them and let them strike.
I should also note this is more of a stained water bite I fish. Clear water you may really try to avoid making the bb’s from making too much noise. For really dingy water I like the glow and UV collars.
    Hope this helps.

I have made a special hitch that mounts on the tongue of my quad that attaches springs to the tongue of my Smitty sled completely stops the sled from fish tailing on glare ice.
I am a fabricator designer and in charge of product development for T3 Trailers.
If you would like any ideas or help you can reach me through our website http://www.t3trailers.com
The hitch idea may save you some money.

Thankfully I already have plenty of Chubby/Lindy Darters…

Your call BW but difrent action and that will give you different sound. I was about begging those connected with Rapala to come out with this size. JMO but the Rippin Rap is one of the Baits that go down in history as one of the all time Baits.

Depends on the bite and how the fish are reacting. If fish are slow I use very small treble and split shot (try to keep it looking as natural as possible). But if fish are more active I will use a tingler spoon.

ATF/Acetone mix or Kroil. PB Blaster works pretty well in a pinch when you need an aerosol can. Plus it doesn’t have an obnoxious smell.

PB Blaster does’t have a obnoxious smell? Can you smell anything???
Just the smell of it gives me rot gut. But I do use it when I have a tough problem bolt or nut.

I thought he meant where, as in which body of water, and I don’t have an answer to that one. Honestly wish I did but I’m not sure at this point if we’re going to be on open water or ice so lots of decisions to make yet that are based on factors out of my control. This job would be a heck of a lot easier if I could control the weather. Still working on that… <img src=”//www.in-depthoutdoors.com/wp-content/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif”

IceAsylum by T3 Trailers has electric lift with 3 position locking pin. They have a overlift position for steep banks or extra tailend clearance.

9 miles north of Wisconsin Dells we have been getting 1/2″- 3″s just about every day. Wife has only run sprinklers twice this year. All sand in this area so all has been well.

Many moons ago (many) I remember trolling on lake Reno with my dad and grandpa for walleyes during a mayfly hatch. Nothing biting so I just tied on a old red and white. Grandpa asked why that? I said at least it feels like I have something on ( what did it matter nothing was biting anyway). About 15 minutes latter had a big old northern on. Every body was pulling red and whites for the rest of the week.
