So far the weather has mostly agreed and the fish as well. We’ve caught eyes from shoreline to 20′, most in the 4-8′ range. Lots of slot fish but we are actually doing better ok getting supper fish than we ever have as well (mix of eyes and sauger). Lots of wildlife and as always great scenery. Happy wife as she has caught more walleye already than on a couple of the last few times she has come up with. Just took a jog over to stagies point before lunch today to show Wyatt the old chimney there.

    Water still only mid 40’s.

Right on! I’m heading up there tomorrow and will be fishing by Thursday morning. All the reports I’ve seen so far says the lake is hopping for walleyes.

Awesome!! Are you finding any keepers? We were up from Thursday till Sunday and didn’t catch much until the sun came out on Saturday. Crappies were not where they usually are and the Hammer Handle Snot Rockets where everywhere. By Saturday afternoon the Walleyes started biting good for us! But, they were all over the 18″ slot. Biggest was and 24.5″ off the dock Saturday evening.

Good Luck & keep the pics coming!! Love seeing kids with fish!

Some keepers, I’d say 50/50 on the keeper size between eyes and sauger, majority are too big but that is typical. Monday I found 3 fish that knew the slot moved up to 18″, they were 18.25 to 18.5″.

No big pike yet, biggest was right about 30″. Smallies mixed in the same areas we are catching walleyes and pike. The one lone perch we found at the dock was milting all over the place.

Did some exploring around the rock garden down to wolf island area today, found considerably higher temps, as high as 54. Was reminded of just how fast the fuel gauge drops crusing across the lake. I suspect tommorows wind will churn it up and drop the temps again. Couldn’t find an eye the whole time but saw plenty of wildlife.

Everyone was wore out this evening so I decided to drown a couple minnows under a bobber off the dock. Within 45 minutes I had 2 – 14″, a 19″ and a 24″ eye in the net and two more that got off prior to getting into net range.

We got up there Monday and fished through Friday.
Found mix of keepers and larger fish.
A lot of strong fighting 19 and 20s.
4 – 30 feet depending on light conditions and time of day.
Was one of the best fishing weeks ever.
    weather was agreeable too.

Bite slowed some later into the week for us but we still found fish every day. One of the best trips up there that I’ve brought my wife and son with. I tried staying up one night for the northern lights when the odds we’re supposed to be good but they never appeared and by 1:30 I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. But great scenery as always, plenty of lake to yourself and good fishing. Will be back next opener, not sure who is coming with me yet but will be back.

Made sure to go to this spot and take this picture every year. Thought ‘my’ tree had tipped over at first but just hadn’t gotten in far enough in yet.

Heading up Saturday any reports. My boys 6 and 8 got fishing poles for their birthdays they are excited to put them to good use. Sunday we have two guides taking us out so that should be a great father’s day.

That old chimney on Stagies point was my dad’s cabin. We had it from late 50’s to 1985 when the park kicked us out. It sat another 10 years there and then they burned it down. Kinda bittersweet to say the least. The back bay had a 40 ft dock that dad had John Salmi and his brother I believe built. Lots of vacation memories growing up on Kabby and the cabin.

That must have been pretty awesome as a kid, great views from that point too. We found two other chimneys more north as well, one in the grassy group and another up somewhere east of windigo campsite I think it was.
