You need to put away the trolling toys and start chasing fish again.

Andy – They are still biting. Picked up two nice channels and a flathead upgrade last night.

I think I boated about 12 flats during the daytime this weekend, kind of lost count at one point.

Presenting 7-10″ suckers on 9/0 saltwater 3oz jigs vertical below boat. Nothing over 20# unfortunately… But I’m always amazed when a 25″ flathead munches a 9″ sucker.

Expensive weekend. 24 suckers $48. Blew up a 10′ St Croix surf rod and wore out an Abu 7000 too.

    Bonus 40″ pike too.

I had to stop buying suckers – $48 for 2 dozen suckers is way too much. I’ve got a nice milk run of bait spots that I fish most nights before catfishing. I can usually catch a couple of redhorse and can always catch sheepies. I’ve had really good luck with sheepshead this year.

I bought some GULP saltwater 6 inch Grubs for playing in the timber like you are. I can rig them up weedless on jigs and drag them through just about anything. I’ve only tried them once so far and had no luck but after reading your report I may have to give it more effort.

    Good Luck

    Sturgeon season is now ON.
That will put a damper on flatheads.
Did order some 4,6,8 oz fluke ball jigs. Pictured is my 3 oz jig on a nice sheep from last night.

Plan to fish some bigger baits yet this year.

NOW that is a flatty bait. im always shocked as well seeing how small flats can munch a big bait. last wkend we caught an 3.8lbs on a chunky 9″ bullie.
it even did the thump and slow clicker like a big flats does. my cousin almost thought he missed it
8’H action 80pp in 10’fow, darn near flipped it into the boat on the hook set lol
