The walleye bite is on all over the DL area. Big Detroit has finally started to produce and will just keep getting better over the next week. It is not turning great #’s but the average is great with the lake also being your best chance for a pig. The fish are in the weeds in 12-15ft of water so you also have to contend with northerns, bass, sunfish and an occasional muskie. Big Pine has fish in deep water off the midlake in 28-34ft and shoreline breaks off the weed edges in about 17ft.Rigging redtails, leeches and creawlers on long snells seems to be the ticket. Otter Tail is producing nicer than average fish and both shoreline breaks and midlake with sharp drop off the cabbage weeds seems best. The shiner bite that was hot a week ago has transitioned into a leech, crawler live bait or jig/fathead…. or rigging redtail bite in 16-24ft. Pelican remains steady for a bite in 19-24ft, but you have to cull through the little ones to get a bag of nice eaters in the 14-18″ range. Watch for the mayfly hatch as Cotton, Big Toad, Rock have already started. Water temps are in the high 60’s now. If they are on the hatch jump to another area lake for better success. Check with “baitman” John at quality bait for accurate area reports and great bait!
