    Hey guys,

Planning a bachelor party and need some guidance. We’re looking at something in Northern MN and are hoping for equal parts of:
    1. Good fishing. I’m sure we’ll fish Fri, Sat, and Sun mornings. Mainly for walleye. Trout and Pike a bonus.
    2. Fun boating scene. We’re bringing our boats and hoping to find a fun beach and/or bars on the waterfront.
    3. Fun bar scene. Saturday night we’re going to rent a party bus to hit up the small town bars in the area.

Any suggestions in terms of where to go? A friend of mine suggested Whitefish chain. Almost all of us will be coming from the twin cities.

I also wanted to mention we’re all in our mid 30’s, like to drink, but professional and respectful.

    Thanks!

Breezy point resort I’ve had 3 of them up there and fishing’s not bad and the bar scene is great! Always had a blast and met great people up there every year!

I’ve been on tonka a decent amount of times. It’s always fun, but looking for something different.

Minocqua/Eagle River area… Both are situated on chains of lakes, decent fishing, decent night life and can always take a bus up to Hurley!!!

    Minnetonka.

Is this because of the Love Boats, err Houseboats, that they have on Minnetonka…

Except for the sandy beaches, Lake of the Woods with numerous resorts, each with it’s own bar, near the mouth of the Rainy River north of Baudette would be ideal for you and the fishing is pretty darn good too.

I did mine on the Whitefish chain. No fishing but plenty of boating, bars and scenery.

I don’t know if they have Launch trips on the Whitefish, but they are a blast for a bachelor party…. fishing and everyone is safe too.

I’ve planned and participated in many bachelor parties up north. Always a great time. The Whitefish chain has everything you’re looking for. With that said, it is a good fishing lake, however not easy to fish until you really learn it. Plus it’s gin clear, so most of the good fishing early, late and at night. That and good luck fishing after about 9-10AM in the morning when recreational traffic really picks up.

    Other thoughts:
    1) Unless you guys are really serious about fishing, leave the boats at home. In my experience, nobody is waking up early to go fishing after a night of partying. And later in the day, most won’t be in good shape to drive a boat around.
    2) Rent a big pontoon from one of the local joints so everyone can be on the same boat, way more fun. Lots of good rental options up there. You can fill up a few coolers or even bring a keg along. Cruise the lake, bar hop and tie up at the sand bar on Rush Lake.
    3) If you rent the toon, have one buddy take the day off drinking. The Chain gets patrolled pretty well, especially around the sand bar on Rush lake. Lots of traffic too so it’s just good to have a responsible person. Also, maybe look into hiring a guy from the pontoon rental place to drive you, I think a few places do this.
    4) Have a great time and be safe!

Thanks for all the info! And yes, we have friends that don’t drink much at all and will be driving.

This is a little outside the box, but have you considered Duluth? Great city, plenty of night life, and a unique experience fishing Superior either by your boats or charter.

Actually Duluth was going to be my 2nd choice. I’ve fished it before with decent success. I just like the idea of more of a smaller lake scene where I can keep my boat out in front of a cabin or resort and tool around, even on a moderately windy day. Swimming would be a big bonus too or find some sandy beach.

I’m not into the bar scene, so we had mine at Evert’s this past spring. Got into some nice fish during the day and shot a TON of guns at a buddies local farm. Can’t beat that!

The new staff at Evert’s are great and the cabins are perfect for a group of laid back guys playing cards and drinking beer.

Lake Vermilion! A lot of bars, good fishing, casino on the lake if into that, golfing, fun cruising (get a lake map) but not crowded.

    X2!

My friend is on the Whitefish Chain, Les’s party bus is $10 per person and they will take you anywhere for that flat fee. The bachelor/bachelorette party’s look like they are having a blast.

A friend had one in Crosslake a few years ago. We didn’t do any fishing, but I was shocked at how good the nightlife was in the area. Not sure if we just happened to hit it at the right time, or if it is always good in the summer around there. I think Moonlight Bay is where we spent most of our nights, lots of people, lots of fun. Classic bachelor party experience.

Good times were had by all. Not so much the next morning, but the night before is still talked about. My suggestion would be if you’re going for a few days is to plan the last night as “the party night”. Get the bus or pontoon and try to do the bachelor party then. I’ve been on a few trips where the first night gets wilder than planned and everyone is shot for the rest of the time. Have fun!

Thanks for all the replies. $10/person for a party bus sounds like a steal!

I’d have to recommend the Alexandria chain, only 2 hours from the cities. Plenty of good scenery on the beaches blush Great fishing just about everywhere. Lots of golf courses. Lots of bars including a gentleman’s club for the Bachelor. Numerous party bus companies too. There are resorts that are super nice and ones that are perfect for a bachelor party.

We had my buddies bachelor party last year and he accidently tripped and fell into the toilet tank shattering it. The resort was awesome and only charged a very reasonable fee. Disclaimer (there may have been alcohol involved). Our crew is generally respectful too but when you drink all day things happen so it’s nice to be someplace that will understand.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

We rented a house across the bay from Zorbaz on Gull Lake for my buddies bachelor party. Fishing is good, several bars accessible by boat and the north side of gull has that sand bar out in the middle that is a couple feet below the surface you could anchor on and hang out. Near that new brewery etc…have fun!
