Find the schooling shad and you will find the fish. Also don’t hesitate fishing shallow even during the day, 5 feet or less.

Don’t discredit bait casters when fishing from shore. One of my sturgeon rods is a 10 foot medium heavy ugly stick with an Abu 7000 and I can cast just as far as guys with spinning gear. If your more comfortable with a spinning reel, ugly stick has some great spinning rods that work awesome for sturgeon and I know guys that like the Berkley glowsticks and both you can’t beat the price
. Also there is no need to cast to the middle of the river when targeting sturgeon from shore, find the right locations and they can be caught with only a 20-30 yard cast. Hope this helps!

If you still have an open seat available I will take you up on the offer. I have never fished pool 4 for sturgeon but fish the saint Croix a bunch for them and normally get several out there when targeting them, so just a thought if you wanted to try the saint Croix but that’s your choice. I’m willing to pitch in on bait and boat/vehicle gas. I live in the the south metro.

That’s true craftsmanship right there! Awesome looking canoe! In my opinion I would think $600 is quite low for the time that your dad probably put into building it.

Clarks gas station on old Shakopee road sells them but they go quick, I’ve heard Thorne brothers sells them and blue ribbon occasionally has them.

My go to bait for carp is oatmeal. Buy the quick oats put a little in your hand and get wet an squish it around till a stiff dough forms, form a ball about the size of a big grape and mold around your hook. You also can’t go wrong with using sweet corn. Hope this helps!

All I can say is backwaters, with the river still a little high and the flow still up there’s loads of bait fish in the backwaters and everything is following those baitfish. Buddies and me have done good over the last couple weeks fishing with live bait on the bottom (4-6″ bullheads). Fishing shallow 3-6 feet of water.

If your having a hard time catching bullheads for bait go around sunset or after dark. I have never had a problem getting bullheads. Bullheads just like there large cousins (channel, flathead) will feed more heavily in low light\dark periods.

Good luck chasing the skis this summer! It was nice meeting you and chasing some eyes on pool 4 with Devin and Adam like a month ago and the shore lunch on the beach at everts.

It’s a little farther then 25 miles but lake tetonka and lake sakatah near Waterville, mn can produce some good channel cats along with cannon lake near faribalt, mn.

Not sure what the water temperature is but I fished mooers lake by cottage grove last night and caught 2 big post spawn walleyes and the quillback or river carpsuckers were spawning couldn’t get a good look to tell what they were because of water clarity.

Your gonna be limited to fishing for panfish, channel cats or rough fish. I would recommend trying any of the places you mentioned and throwing out a gob of nightcrawlers or a small piece of cutbait. You will more then likely hook into some carp or some channel cats.

Three blondes are down at the river casting there lines out when a conservation officer shows up and asks them all for there fishing license, they tell him they don’t have one and they aren’t fishing they are casting magnets out to clean junk off the bottom of the river, he doesn’t believe them so he has them reel there lines in. Sure enough they have magnets on the end of there lines so he let’s them be and leaves. Soon after one blonde tells the others he must not know there’s (steel)head salmon in here.

Seems pretty skinny. My guess would be that it’s a freshly spawned out female.

Thanks Fishman. Were you tipping your spoons with minnow heads or spoons only?

Me and some buddies have been up to leech a few times this winter and done really good on the perch with some walleyes mixed in. We’ve been going out from pine point. Our most recent trip was this past Tuesday and Wednesday which was our best, fishing shallow 5-7 feet of water. Most of our fish came on dead sticks with large fatheads, we also caught a fair amount (perch) on jigging raps and spoons, all are walleyes came on tip ups with suckers. When going after the perch don’t be afraid to use a larger presentation, we caught a handful of perch on tip ups with 4-6 inch sucker minnows. Hope this helps and good luck!

Only thing I’ve ever dropped down a hole is a pair of pliers. It wasn’t funny for him but i got a kick out of it, I had a buddy a few weeks ago drop his cell phone down the hole for the 3rd year in a row. Also had another buddy drop his phone down the hole a few days ago.

Most ice tournaments have a designated area and all holes are pre drilled, so getting away from the crowds might not be an option. Good luck and tight lines!

My guess would be ice build up on the bottom of the transducer.
