I can’t believe people use $200 reels for ice fishing. Had no idea.

My guess is he already owns them for use on summer rods and they serve double duty on walleye rods in the winter.

Thats what I do…Use the reels all year round. My highest end thorne bros walleye rod gets the sustain. I know of a ice fisherman that has twelve stellas on his ice rods, and they never come off the ice rods…

    ummmm, OVERCOMPENSATING for something???

    for what it’s worth…it’s pflueger president 6720’s here…

southern iowa usually locks up in mid-dec give or take 2 weeks…i’m about 100 miles farther north and i usually get out for the first time on thanksgiving give or take a couple days…i’ve got permission for 30 or so farm ponds in sw iowa…shoot me a pm when it gets colder if you’re up for a road trip.

around the iowa/missouri line you can hit the hard water safely for 6-8 weeks each year…i wouldn’t try much further south…tho some guys get out around KC i’ve heard…fools.

biggest one i’ve ever gotten came from a farm pond -4#2oz…sight fishing in 3 FOW weed edge right next to the deepest hole in the place…she was 19 1/4″ and is on my wall…. regularly get 15″-17″ fish during the late ice periodevery year from the local lake but those on the other hand are usually on a hump in 45 FOW coming out 65 FOW…talk about both ends of the spectrum!!! (and yes i fizz em’…1″ long insulin syringe does wonders.)

one on the camera…and i pick up all i can find at garage sales/ classified ads/ etc…. i make a fairly good size “weed bed” (i’ve got close to 40 stalks)… usually in a “Z” shape, then drill holes around it…really works if the fish are roaming, they’ll stay with you all day!

here’s the question….marcum panner or aqua-vu mo-pod? i’m looking for something to turn my camera right now…actually been taking my 6 year old daughter with to do it so i don’t have to get out of my seat (trust me, i know lazy!) anyway… from what i understand, the mo-pod is a wireless remote and runs off 12v battery and the marcum has a cable and runs off C batteries… any other differences?

I appreciate everyone’s help on this, I’ll definitely go with a CD-ROM. I didn’t realize the learning curve is so steep on the computer side of managing a GPS unit.

it’s not if you get the chip….get on the lake, look at the map, scratch your head over the endless possibilities, drill holes…

i’ve got some skandias…..only seem to make it out of the boxes if i’m fishing deeper than 30 FOW…otherwise it’s CJS for me….sure wish CJS would introduce some tungsten into their lineup so i could avoid feeding european pocketbooks!!!

the one question i have with the recoil guides isn’t so much with the quality as the price….the cost for the recoils if you were to buy them is under $10…so why is this a $20+ upgrade…just my 2 cents… profit is good…this however on top of a rod with more than a 400 point markup??? that said, thorne ARE great rods, and i will admit i have a few.

bass are just starting to move shallow….pretty good jig and spinnerbait bite— male walleye on the dam at dark…not too sure of crappies yet (although they are starting to bite pretty good at briggs woods- 10-14″ers)

The H2O C is being discontinued, they are still out there, but I’m also looking for a new unit, was looking close at Garmin. Interested to hear some opinions on some of the newer units out there. For instance, do you have problems with the touch screens? I would think running a GPS with an active screen would eat up batteries faster, I know my sons cell phone needs to be recharged about twice as often at a non-touch screen.

garmin gps 60 (or 76) csx…best accuracy i’ve found in consumer gps on the market…and touch screens generally slow down in cold weather…ie. ice fishing.

the store is great…the knowledge of it’s staff needs a lot of work…everytime i’ve asked a question looking for a specific fishing item in that place, NO ONE knows what i’m talking about…

you guys forgot the squeeze….the fish races in, stops so hard the jig moves and eyes it for what seems to be an eternity, what do you do??? SQUEEZE!!! if you’ve got a pencil grip on you’re rod/reel, a good firm SQUEEZE and release will get the jig vibrating in place enough to turn even the most finicky pannies!!!
