GRK,
As Mr. Koonce said, watch for ice outings and join in. Or look at hiring a good guide in the area that you spend most of your time ice fishing. They are both great options to see what is out there and test some of the gear before you buy. With there being so much product out there in the ice fishing industry it is important to get and fish with what you are comfortable with, not always what everyone else uses.
Just a couple ways to maybe make it a little easier..

I used the 13 Fishing Whiteout Combo on the show, 27 ML.
As for the aerial shots, Troy Peterson was kind enough to bring out his drone and do the aerial shots.

January 14, 2015 at 8:33 pm #1497504The Striker Ice Second Skin Gloves are worth checking out. I truly hate wearing gloves. They are very warm but still thin enough to fish with. They are the only pair of gloves I have purchased that are actually waterproof time after time on the ice.
November 24, 2014 at 7:59 pm #1476673I’m not sure which model you are looking at? The “Black Betty” is a 1:1 gear ratio. This reel has a lower price point and works great in water that is less than 10 feet deep. If you spend anytime fishing in deeper water you will love the “Black Betty 6061”. This reel has an adjustable drag as well as a 2.7:1 gear ratio. The super free spool is awesome for getting your bait deep, fast.
Whichever fits your fishing needs, you will be happy!
