I have a bit of exsperiance with this type of thing. When I was 16 I got a 2wd S-10 with the 2.8 lt v-6. I used it to pull around my dads 18′ Lowe walleye rig that had a 60hp evenrude. It was way under powered and I must have burned out 2 clutches, of course that could have been because of inexperiance. Later I pulled the same boat with a 2.9 Lt Ford Ranger 4wd. Since I had 4wd I used that at all the boat lanchs and I saved on the clutch. Even so both engines required me to run in 4th gear and I could hold at a steady 60mph tops. If I want to go faster I would alwasy have to down shift to 3rd gear. I would assume that the 4.3 liter would do a bit better then the 2.9 liter, so I would try and go for that and skip the 2.9 even though it will do it in a pinch. Currently I use a F150 with the 4.6 Liter V8 with no problem but considering gas prices it get driven very little.

I have a 6×6 Vanguard. It can take on 4 adults on land. I had myself , 5’7″ and two buddies both over 6 feet in a pond. Now that was a bit dicy and of course agains the advice of Argo (only supose to have 2 adults in the water). You can get the 8×8 too they are very strong work horses and you can get tracks for all of them.

Well this is an issue I really wanted to investigate. Due to high fuel prices I find my self running the Rum river just south of Princeton. The Co Rd 7 access is like 1 minute drive from my home. All that section has is wood and lots and lots of sand. In normal water theres not alot of issues, but in the last 3-5 years it gets very low with long stetchs of sand that I motor across. I am currently running a 5hp Evenrude Fisherman aka built in 1959. Its doing the job and runs well, but I always worry. I do 99.99% of the time have the wife, 2yr old daughter and 10 month old daughter along. I really should have a mud motor, but I am the only bread winner and make a modest level of money. Most newer motors are out of my range and finding a good used one can be done but is diffcult. The lack of water cooling in the Briggs is inturging and I wonder why no other boat manufature would go that route. For those that run small rivers and lakes, I would think it would be appealing. Well I got to get out of work its 5pm. I plan to fishe the rum this weekend. As Red Green says. Keep your stick on the ice.

So I should not have an issue if I suck up sand into the Nissions water pump? I run a river that at some points can get very shallow and a person tends to hit a bit of sand.

Well we got that rain 2-3 days ago and the river is looking good. Water levels are up to a health level, and the water is not as murky as it could be.

In my neck of the woods north of Cambridge its small boats only. 14 foot or smaller. With all the rain we had the other night she is running fast. I am going to check it out tonight to see how the levels are.

Thats a good tip, will remember it. Unfortuantly the section I fish has no storm drains on it. At least the rain may bring the levels up on the river. We could use a 2-5feet more in the Rum right now.

Well I did go out that night and caught some small eyes and broke off on a big northern. It appreared the closer we got to sunset the better. I am hoping to go out tonight again, I usally go on at the Co Rd 7 access.

Yes you are right about the name being in the Lord of the Rings, however he is not the guy you are thinking of that was Beorn. Tom Bombadil, by Tolkien own adminsion is an egnima. In the Lord of the Rings he could handle the One Ring and it had no power over him. He was the only one in Middle Earth that had that ability.

That why I went out and got a small 14 ft boat and a little 5.5HP so I could fish the Rum river near my home (its a 2 minute drive). Unfortantly its the section between Princeton and Cambridge and I have not had alot of luck. We went out Saturday and did not get a thing:(

I cannot comment on the early part of your route but I can on the second. I live in Princeton and drive to a friends house just south of Watertown SD. I would avoid the TC like the plague. North on 94 can get bad and 101 has like 5 stop lights and thats before you get to Elk River which has 4 more. Takeing 23 to St Cloud would be the better option. Even when I have driven in St Clouds rush hour it was not as bad as 101 and Elk River. Once you get out of St Cloud you can shoot all the way up 23 but you will have to go thru Foley, Foreston and Milaca. If you don’t like slowing down for small towns, take 95 to Princton it has one 4 way stop and that is it. It will hit 169 before you get into town and then just zip up 169.

It was 10 years on June 10th 2005. Married at 20 years of age, we had been dating since 17. On our first date I asked her if she liked to fish, she said she loved and asked if I had a boat, my dad had just purchased a 18′ Lowe (my dad is not a fisherman, just got the boat for us boys.) I said yes and she wanted to take it for a spin at 9:45Pm. Not wanting to PO her Dad too much we decided that would be a good 2nd date.

My advice would be not to take a toddler in a canoe or small fishing boat. Seems pointless and risky but that’s just my opinion.

Really the daughter has been in the canoe since she was 12 weeks and her first BWCA trip was then. Its not being in a water craft that wife worries my wife, its the moving water.

A boston whaler, do they sell them in MN, I had never heard of one.

I like the Grand Rapids/Marcell area. Alots of lakes many of them with portage access only(low fishing pressure) and very close to the Big Fork river.

I agree that we don’t have enough COs. Prehaps the state should look at PA. In that state they have voleenteer COs who are trained and then work about 30 hours or so a month. They are even able to work undercover and fish or hunt as the same time they work. Could you imagen what it would be like if when fishing you did not know if the guy in the next boat was a CO and he could come over and check you when you put that 1 crappie or so over your limit in the bucket. I think it would help curb the poaching in this state. From what I understand the State of PA pays for the training and uniforms and you provide the Firearm and the time.

Let see my wife can clean, cook, sew, dig worms and clean fish(but prefers I do it) as for the Boat if I wanted to marry her I had to have the boat and motor.lol She is also a BWCA nut so we have 2 kevlar and 1 alum canoes with another kevlar on the way. You could also add these things to the fine print of this sign. “Note finding a women like this will require you to purchase additional rod, reels, guns and assocated gear, that matches or out classes the gear you use”.LOL

I really see my self as a very luck man, she wants to get a baby sitter this Saturday and go fishing which she considers a date.

I married my highschool sweetheart, I knew she was a winner when she asked these 2 question on our very first date. “Do you like to fish” I said I love it. “Do you have a boat” Yes “I want to see it” I guess I was lucky my Dad had just purchased a 18′ Lowe(I now “store” it for him0. My wife considers going fishing as a Date, she would ratherdo that then go out to eat or to a movie. Yes she does out fish me, not all the time. But when asked she always tells people that it was I that found the spot. Her other major passion is the BWCA we took are daughter there when she was only 12 weeks old. I did out fish my wife on that trip, but then again she had 12 week baby in the front of the canoe. I only out fished her by 1 fish.

Sometimes I like a 1/32 but have gone down to 1/64 if it is really early and the fish very inactive(or staging). A small strike indicator(bobber that is very small used mostly for numphing a trout).

I have a PS2 but the others are also good. I mostly play on my pc. I love RTS(Real Time Stratagy) and playing multi player, I am not a big FPS guy(First Person Shooter). That said teach them balance. Gaming can be very addictive and next thing you know its a great day to go fishing and you are siting at a PC or a consule playing games. I like PC better you can get almost all the same games as consules and you can upgrade your PC and be able to get the lates greats games with the best graphics. The only fee to play on line is the internet access, which you need for the consules. You can also get any kind of controller you want for your pc, ps/2 or Xbox. They just plugg into the USB ports. Just my 2 cents. Also if you are going to get a PC build it your self you can get more bang for your buck that way.

Saw that last night the wife was so pissed she wants to get permits from the township and go picket these places. They do not own the lake. Yes they do own there landing and can charge whatever they want. But once they are on the lake its public property. If they really want to make it exclusive stop plowing the roads and take that money and buy Bombadirs and drive their clients out on to the lake.
