    Drakesdemise,
I appreciate the post. I ahve two batteries in front wired in series. They both have about 220 amp hours reserve power. In series, I can fish on a trip for days with out needing to recharge. I figured a transome mount would be ok as my main motor would charge that battery every time I run it. So, I woudl have ample electric power, and nearly 100 pounds of usable thrust. I understand it is easier to pull than push. I guess I am wondering if you are using say 50 to 60 percent of the thrust available on your 24 volt unit, how long can you go between charges?

I have used one eyes on both pools 9 and 10. I like to jig them around wing dams, or throw shallow and jig back. They are ok for the vertical/drift thing too. Fish usally hit on the drop. My opionion is to use a superline like power pro, fireline whatever, with a pole that has a soft tip. I have found too stiff a tip will pull the hook out. I get much better hook ups with a softer tip rod. Hutch has great oneyes. I like the silver and silver purple ones from him, just catch more fish more often with those colors. He has lots to choose from. 1/2 oz seems to be the ticket for most situations for me.

AMS Oil is just plain great stuff. I use the 0W – 40 in my 4 wheeler and my Yamaha 50 4 stroke. I use 5W – 30 in my truck. In all cases, I get better protection and better milage. You can get lower unit lube and bearing grease form them as well.

Well, the rollers are up, the current is booking and there is a lot of ice between Genoa and Lynxville that has to come down yet. I would guess the ice will be there for a while. Man the ice was all over the river and really moving this weekend. I think they want the ice to break up and go away ASAP. Don’t the barges start running like middle of March?

Relative to flashers, is there a difference between Vexilar and Marcum. Is one preferable to the other?

As a huge Packer fan and little to crow about…I am just glad the packers were not out coached by Childress! As to the Patriots…the coaching will kill us. I wounder if they will try to go deep?

Kooty has said it very well…I do not catch huge numbers of fish, but the quality will more than make up for that. This has been my experience. I have been pitching jigs shallow for only about 5 years. I do not claim to be an expert, but I have found I catch good qulity fish by swiming my jig across a wingdam, or pitch to shore and swim it back to the boat. I must have bottom contact, but am not dragging or plowing the bottom. Line watching helps, just tick the bottom on occation and let the current do the rest. If the jig stops on a rock, a slight lift will often get it moving again. Hits are usually pretty significant. I really like night fishing. Less boats, and the fish are really shallow. I can use pretty light jigs. Again, I will not catch 20 a night, but I might get 5 or 6 pretty good fish, sometimes more.

Hey vertical jigging puts fish in the boat, but I like to change it up and cast for fish the best.

    Good Luck!

Hey Dean, why is it crucial to use a #2 straight snap in the blade. I am not understanding why one can not tie directly to the blade, eccept to make changing color eaisier.

I am mosty an open sighted, flintlock shootest. However, I have touched off my share of center fire rounds, and have experience with optics. First off, you can not go wrong with Burris, Nikon or Leupold. I personally think the Nikon is the brightest of the three (My humble opinion). In any event get what you can offord. The Cabela’s guide series ( I think they are called that) are very good also and way cheaper.

    Good luck with your decision.

Pool 9 info…I fished last Sat/Sun. early morning and dusk best. Grass is a pain!!!!!! Firecracker chart. tail, or blue tail worked well for me, however, bubblegum did work for others. I did not see many fish picked up by anyone, and the live bait guys did not seem to do to well either…this info is for the dam. However, a jig and a minnow in the blackhawk/victory areas have been steady. Boats in MN slough have been productive as well. The lack of current has the fish scattered so you pick up a few and move to find more. On bright sunny days, when all else fails I have picked up fish throwing one-eyes to tips of wingdams in 15 to 20 FOW and jigging it back to me. However, I have heard the eye bite is picking up in these areas. My experience however has been all sauger.

    I hope this hepls some

Hey Rob nice fish. I am glad some folks are staying consitant. Did you put in at Blackhawk again? I think will be up that way this weekend. Maybe I will see you there. By the way, did you fish Desoto Bay at all, or just hang out in MN. Slough?

    Hey Brian,

do you use one-eyes often? I was under the impression they were not as effective as blade baits up there. Just wondering.

    IlliniWalli,

I was talking with Dean and he said one-eyes typicaly do not work too well on pool 4…not sure why. He said blade baits are much prefered by the fish up there.

However, like Brian said, do not lift too high. I like an 8 to 10 inch lift. If you are working too hard, you will just tire yourself out. Fish them more like a jig. I like to cast to a wingdam and jig them back. I do fish them faster than a jig because if I do not I will get them stuck in the rocks, so I lift and let down, reel, lift and let down. They ( the fish ) seem to want only one color when they bite as mentioned earlier. On pool 9 silver or white and purple seem to be by far the most productive for me. They only seem to work when all else fails. It is easier to vertical jig them, but I get bored with that technique, so I cast when ever I get the chance. I do not have a camera so I can not get you a picture…sorry.

    Pool 4…figures!!!

Well Don’t catch them all Bret!! How did you end up doing Saturday? By the way, you did not miss anything on Sunday. I guess some guys did pretty well around blackhawk park area using jigs and minnows.

Good luck at Pool 4 Bret!

Hey Mikey, nice fish. Sorry I missed you guys on Sat. But with only two holes in my ceiling…all is good! I hate electrical problems!!

Anyway, I went to pool 9 for the last few hours of light on Saturday. I think I drove longer than I fished, but I did put 3 nice fish in the boat. The big ticket for me is my old stand by, a dark purple glitter jig with chartruese pepper ringworm. I guess the fish would average 17 inches. I was fishing current seams in about 18 FOW…very slowly, just twitching the retrieve. I did get out Sunday morning for a few hours of darkness until 9:30 am. The only colors that worked were firecracker chart. tail with a gold glitter jig and Firecraker blue tail. However, when the sun was high, I fished down river on the tips of wingdams in about 15 – 20 FOW and threw one-eyes. That was the only way I could pick up fish on Sunday. I had to move a lot also, they are so scattered If I could fry grass, I would have had a limit after six casts!! Man that gets old in a hurry. Anyway, pool 9 was pretty slow…in the morning anyway.

Are you or Brett going to pool 9 next weekend?

Hey thanks for the report!!! Man, if it weren’t for the doggone grass, things would be snapping!! I am glad you picked up some fish. Did you try any one-eyes? Any color preference on the ringies…what is the water clarity now. Is it still messed up from all the wind?

Bret, I do not know exactly yet. I may be on pool 10. If I make it up to 9, I will likely start at Desoto Bay and work my way North to Genoa. I will post tomorrow and let you know. It I can make it happen, it would be pretty cool hooking up with you and Wats. Talk to you latter.

    Grey Ghost,
were you fishing the sand flat on the Wisconsin side, or over by the Iowa side below the float?

Same deal for me, way too much memory! However, I would tie my tag end to a tree, walk back 100 yards or so and strecth the line, then wind it back up. I would then spray my spool with reel magic. That helped the memory issue a lot. It is a really tough line…super abrasion resistant, but it is not too limp and the memory thing can drive a guy crazy. Just my two cents.
