sturgeon bait

Looking for suggestions for bait other than crawlers or minnows that work for fishing sturgeon . Want to launch on Canadian side of Rainy River and fish the U.S. side so I cant take crawlers across the border

We often catch redhorse and cut them up for bait, but we catch the Redhorse on….crawlers.
Can’t you just buy crawlers at one of the several places that sell them along the river? Most of the resorts will have a supply and I know Royal Dutchman is setting up a new little bait shop this year as well. Are you not able to pull up and buy some because of the border thing? If so how do you plan to fish for them? Spotlock?

I thought most night crawlers were Canadian.

Can’t assume anything nowadays, there are worms coming out of Mpls identifying as beavers
