    Hey all,
I’m fairly new to ice fishing so I have what might seem a silly question. I notice most rods (including my cheap starter rod) just has sliding rings to hold the reel onto the rod. How am I supposed to secure those rings in place?
The rings keep sliding and don’t hold the reel firmly.

Electricians tape. Better yet, cut the rings off (tin snip) and tape handle directly to rod. They’re worthless,IMO.

I take the rings off my ice rods and secure the reel with electrical tape. Has worked great for me.

I like the the tape used on hockey sticks. It stretches a little so really secures the reel nicely. It is also not slick like electrical tape.

Cutting them off and using electrical tape was my first thought. But I thought since they put those rings on most rods, there surely must be a correct way to lock ’em down. I guess I gave rod manufacturers too much credit.
