I had the opportunity to spend a few hours on Gull and Mission Lakes this past weekend. On Saturday morning we headed out to a friends fish house for some crappie fishing. The action was slow with a few small crappies and perch coming through the ice. Our walleye tip ups caught nothing but perch. Its interesting that the perch would bother the larger rainbow minnows we were using but ignore the smaller fatheads that were easier for them to bite on. For the afternoon we headed out to Upper Mission to run tip ups for northerns. The wind had calmed and it was a pleasant sunny afternoon to fish without a shelter. We had a few flags and did ice one small “hammerhandle”.
Sunday it was back to the shack at Gull. The crappies were a bit more active but there was not much size to them. At least they were larger than the typical metro sized fish. We called it a day at 1pm and hit the road for a 3 hour drive home.
