    1rst off Good Job

Secondly, i wouldn’t feel bad if I were you. A lot of guys still have their ego filling up their melon and they can’t let it go long enough to acknowledge a good fish in a tough tourney. Most of these guys look at younger fisherman and automatically take them out of the competition.

BIG MISTAKE, I am one of those younger guys too and I love the looks on these guys faces when I come in with a sack of fish! Besides you made a crtical adjustment in this tournament and it played in your favor, a lot of those guys were probably too stubborn to leave the fish they once had to locate more. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t, and that is what seperates who wins and who doesn’t!

P.S. Just give those guys a big ole grin when you walk up with a good sack of fish, it eats them alive inside!!

Well, I appreciate all the advice/information. This has been the best response to a post that I have had since I have been on this website. I guess I a little frustrated with getting my teeth kicked in on the BFL

However, bring a non-boater or fishing less tournaments is not an option for me. I can’t set back and watch these guys I got to get in there and try! I know I will struggle more as I go but I guess that is the price I will have to pay to be ” good “. Whatever that means If anyone is interested in going out on the river anytime anywhere give me a shout and I will do my best to go. Thanks

I wouldn’t be complaining if I were you bud! I think if you would of had a three pound average in the BFL anytime anywhere you will stand a good chance to win. Second place…..I would love to be in second place in a tourney on the river. Writing an article on this webpage about how you couldn’t win and only get second place on this website or any other website will not get you anywhere. Sorry to be bitter but you got to look at the positive in this situation rather than the negative. Next post try to include some usefull information for the rest of us as well.

I personally like the OutKast tackle tubes. They are really soft, salty, and seem to work behind other fisherman real well! You might go through more of these tubes than others, but the price you can’t beat with the results. All the tubes are designed by tournament anglers and the colors available are unique. Visit OutKastTackle.com and check these out. Some Gander Mountain locations carry them but check the webpage for the full selection.

I have had tremendous succuess throwing grubs in pre-spawn conditions. I throw them on the edges of their usual spawning falts and crawl them on the bottom. I usually use a 1\8th ounce jig head to get a slow fall in case of suspended fish, but like that size for most all applications. Texas rigging them with the same size bullet weight if the conditions call for a weedless presentation.

I would like to start throwing them more often but have a hard time putting away that nasty swimming jig! I think that more often times then not that a 5 inch grub will imitate a stressed shad than anything other than a jerkbait.

I think it is a matter of confidence when trying to use a bait in different conditions. We all have our favorites for each situation and have a hard time getting away from what works. Tournament situations often bring pressured fish and throwing a bait that is alittle different can make a huge difference in cashing a check!

Has anyone had success fishing grubs in thick vegetation?

I agree. Having a flasher both at the console and up at the bow is a must! The real time display will save you a lot of time pushing off a sandbar or crying at the repair shop

The advantages of the flasher really shine when trying to locate hard bottom. It makes finding the spot on the spot a little easier! Good Luck!

No I don’t believe it does, atleast it didn’t influence me on what I bought.

The whole reason I even care if Skeeter sponsors any tournament trails is the politics side of it.

Sadly enought you get priority entry into any FLW related tournament if you own a Ranger. I think that sucks because it doesn’t allow other anglers to get into tournament trails without working their way through the ranks. Some guys just don’t have the time or patience to work through that. Just one man’s opinion

Seeing as I own a Skeeter and also sponsored my opinions might be slightly biased.
I think it is good for Skeeter to venture off from BASS and look into new oppurtunities such as FLW( Even though Ranger has the market there) and also focusing on their own tournament trail that is already in existence.

My only concern is this… Will Skeeter boats be able to get a foot in on major tournament trails?

I like to use a 7′ rod as well. The longer rod gives you better control on long distance casts as well as provides excellent leverage when you hook the hawg! I like a medium heavy action rod with a soft tip. The soft tip allows me to give the jerkbait a subtle action when necessary. The 7′ rod also helps you pick up the slack on the hook set. Rogue makes an excellent rod for this application.

I agree with the flourocarbon theory for most flipp’n applications. However when faced with extremely thick cover and or low visibility in the water I like Power Pro. This stuff casts further, and is more abrasion resistent than any other line I have used. The line is expensive but well worth the $ considering i have never broken a fish off with this line. Just one guy’s opinion.

    On the water,
You want a partner in that business you are going to be starting up? ( I’m not kidding) I will do pretty much wwhatever it takes to get there. I just need to find a way to support it and still have the freedom to fish the tournaments

well, from what you guys have said the future looks grim for a guy who wants to be pro. It almost seems like you have to get lucky to get the right start. Working hard at it without living out of your truck is the way I will try, but I believe it may always remain a dream. Thanks for the advice guys I apprecite it.

Yeah the BFL doesn’t offer big money for those who win but what it does offer is a chance for a guy to get on some of the bigger tours( Everstart and FLW). The competition is good, which to me will prepare a guy for the upper levels. I personally don’t think that the percentage of good fisherman changes as you go up the ranks. Your only fishing against 10 percent, all the FLW has is more money to win and also more money to be lost. It is all a matter of which level you can afford to compete at.
As for the local tournaments( Team Supreme, Gander Mountain). They offer more money, but there is no where to go from there once your at the top of those trails. I guess it all depends on why you are fishing the tournaments in the first place.

Your guys make a valid point that those fish get pressure no matter what. I guess the point I want to address is if so many people are interested in tournaments on the mississippi river than why do so many organizations have trouble filling out the boat field? I personally think it is because there are just too many trails out there with tourneys in the same area that it tends to spread the anglers out to the point that nobody will have a full field. Most guys do not have the money and/or the time to fish tournaments on back to back weekends.
As far as not wanting to support the IDA bass tour. I am neutral on that position. I just thought it sparked an interesting topic that I have thought about before.

Well I guess whats done is done.
I think that should help bring more MN guys to the BFL and hopefully make it easier to fill out our 150 boat feild. Although they never go to any of the lakes in MN and only one in WI i think some of the guys that always fish lakes should come get their feet wet on the rivers for a while to even further improve their skills.

    Ranger/Vmax
That is some new information for me too look at. My question for you then is why did the tournament director or owner for Minnesota Pro/am try tro committ suicide when this information was released? I do realize I may not have all the facts I just want to know what really happened in this whole deal. In no way am I trying to say that the MN pro/am was a shady deal. I appologize for any wrong information that I may have posted.

I don’t mean to be the one to rain on everybodies parade with this idea, but isn’t there too many trails as it is anyways. These fish will never recieve any time where somebody isn’t fishing for them! I love to fish tourneys, I fish the BFL right now, but too much is too much! Pressured fish are no fun to fish for and when you have a trail on the river, on the same pools every other day these fish are going to get finicky and make these tournaments less fun. Look at Prior lake, MN. They have about 2 tourneys there a week. The fishign is good for those who can get on one of the six spots that are holding fish, but the rest of the guys have to continuely beat the snot out of all the spots just to pick up a few fish. I guess all I am saying is to maybe limit how often you guys hold these tournaments. Trying to squeeze them in the only weekend another trail isn’t beating up the same water doesn’t sound like a plan to me.

The reason that this tour was cancelled was because of tyhe lottery scam. MN/Pro/AM was recieving 400,000 THOUSAND DOLLARS underneath the table to fund the trail. Well as most of uyou may know the guy running the lottery committed suicide and therefore exposed what was going on. It seems nobody wants to talk about that but I had to say something. It sucks they don’t have the B@$$s to say anything about that, but guess what, I DO!!

Hey guys a really appreciate the responses. I have a pretty solid resume but the main problem I am having is getting in contact with reps and or anybody that deals with the sponsorships within the company. Anyone got any ideas on how to get in contact with the right people?

Hey those are some nice fish! I have fished ot there for years and have always had the best luck in the depth you are fishing but off that point with the new big mansion on it. Have you found that you have to be near structure for those crappies to be there?

Let me be the first one to tell you the day bite aint great either! But the evening bite is getting better if you hae some deep structure to sit on. Wax worms is the only thing you can get them to bite on. Glow jigs and very light line help tremendously.
