My in-laws cabin is up on a hill away from the lake but they are even getting water in their basement right now. Tough going for lots of cabins…feel terrible for a lot of people.

Not going to lie i would love that boat but we would have to buy a bigger boat lift. The 2060 is the max size we can go.

Appreciate the reply though. I’m seeing boats sell in 4-6 days right now so yours will probably be gone very fast.

Knucklehead’s in Hill City has some solid food that is very reasonably priced.

Bann’s on Lake Minnewawa has a great menu but with pricing similar to a metro restaurant.

Love the burgers at Dan’s in New Trier after hitting the game farm.

Gosh Dam place is probably my favorite breakfast stop and I don’t need to eat lunch after.

These suggestions are all very helpful. I want the option to switch locations and now I understand how it mounts to the boat via the RAM mount and bracket.

@ Huntindave – If I were running a Tiller I’d definitely consider your placement. From the few people I’ve talked to they all say I should set it up to accommodate how I utilize my boat space when I fish. At this point for me, having the flexibility to move it probably makes more sense so I can figure out what works best. I also appreciate the insight as to why you used the custom plate. Little details make a big difference.

Thanks for all the replies. I’ll try to remember to post pics when I get it set up.

Yes – I did get an ice fishing shuttle from Summit that came with a pole. The Marine recommended a custom side mount. I’m just wondering if it’s worth spending another $300.

Nice work, Jake. The perch in Big Sandy that I’ve cleaned in the past had worms. They’re still ok to eat if the worms don’t bother you. Good luck next weekend.

That is a good bay I’ve fished it many times. There are crappie cribs in there but I won’t divulge the locations. There are quite a few permanent houses and wheel houses out on the lake. Whoever you rented a sleeper from is probably out there or will be very soon. Give them a call.

I wouldn’t give up on that yet, Jake. Slush isn’t everywhere like last year. Just pray we don’t get any more snow anytime soon.

Just got home from a long weekend at Big Sandy. No cars or trucks on the lake yet. 10-12 inches of ice everywhere we drilled on West end of the lake. There is some slush but I didn’t see anyone get stuck. The slush is mostly around shoreline and in areas where snow drifts accumulated. Fishing was a little slow for our group; 7 crappies (marked a lot more but couldn’t get them to commit), 2 tullibee and a pretty nice eelpout in about 10 hours of fishing. The crappies were in anywhere from 18-29 feet of water and bit on minnows and spikes.

The crappies were in their usual winter form – very plump! Hard to beat a Big Sandy crappie filet. It’s worth putting in the hours for so few fish.

Lots of people out on the lake. Most of the known crappie spots were stacked with portables.

I made it out in the South Central part of the state yesterday with my dad and brother. We quickly realized that if we weren’t in thick cattails the birds were on the run and one of us needed to post. At the next two spots even with one of us posting we didn’t get a shot off as the birds had already done the 400 yard sprint to safety before the poster got set up. We found tracks in the fresh dusting of snow and the dogs picked up on the scent but they were gone. At our final spot we decided to hit the thickest cattails we could find. We pushed the cats for about an hour and a half and all of a sudden about 20 birds jumped. I missed a huge rooster at point blank and all the rest were just barely out of range.
In hindsight if we would have only pushed the thick cattails we probably would have had shots at a bunch of birds. Live and learn I guess.

First time poster longtime reader. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from this website so I think it’s time to start contributing. Made it out to a couple WMA’s at sunrise to secure a spot to hunt this morning. My brother, my British Lab Rosie and I. Flushed 8 hens and 1 rooster at the first spot. Couldn’t Identify the rooster until it was pretty much too late to shoot. From my experience hunting public land I figured that would be all we would see today.

2nd WMA we hit didn’t have any hunters at it which I still can’t believe considering there were hunters at every WMA we drove by as well as other hunters driving by looking for a place to hunt. At the end of our 2nd drive we pushed two roosters to the edge of the property line. We were about to continue on but my lab wouldn’t leave. Eventually she flushed two roosters that were hunkered deep in the cattails. We got both of them. Saw one hen at that WMA as well.

3rd WMA we hit had been hunted already and somebody was packing up as we pulled up. Figured what the heck lets give it a shot. Flushed two more roosters but they were too far to get a shot at. We saw two other roosters fly into private property as we were pulling away.

All in all it was a lot of fun and a pleasant surprise to get a few birds and see some more with all the pressure. With the exception of the two roosters at the 3rd WMA that jumped early the rest of the birds were pretty hunkered down. We probably spent 3.5 hours walking – my legs feel like jelly tonight.

Our general location was South Central MN.
