Who would have thought to look at the auger? I never even paid attention to the stickers on it.
    Thanks for the info guys.

Thanks Guys! I just want to make sure Im right. It specifically says ‘do not overfill’ However, If I run it at 1.7oz, its now only half full. Do you know if I go with the full 3.4 on the Strikelite 2 (Robin) as well?

And see the memo I got from SM says 1.7oz to refill, but says the crankcase capacity is 3.4oz. That’s where Im confused.

Ive got a whole Lineup of JM rods. Meat stick is by far my favorite rod. I use the 24s, but agree that if you can get by with the 28, Id prefer the longer blank. I use a Tica reel as well. There may be better equipment out there, but at the price point, I dont think you could get a much better set up.

Have you been to Iowa? Aside from some interior rivers, its tough to find anywhere to go that even has the potential of more than a couple walleyes a day.

Oh Im far from the best fisherman, I can usually hold my own on the Iowa River, but Ive only fished the Miss a dozen times. And to be honest, the fish Ive caught at RW couldve been caught by my 4 year old daughter, meaning there wasnt a lot of skill needed for a minnow on the bottom amongst that many saugers. I would appreciate your report, its a 4 hour drive each way for me, so dont think Im going to be out there following anyone around every day ‘stealing their fish’.

I know exactly what you are saying about the Mickeys. But until I find something that keeps my feet as warm and dry as they do, Im not switching. They are very clunky though!

That would be tempting for sure. But if I ride up with her it would be this Weds/Thurs, so I suppose for now Ill stay home and maybe catch it on the next trip.
    thanks for the info.

Im quite a ways from you guys in MN. But we are usually fishing relatively shallow water on Brushy Creek early in the year. Brush piles on the bottom, tree line edges are where we do the most damage early in the year. 12-18fow through the end of early ice, and move out to doing more suspended fishing in 25-35 fow later in the season. Like was said, jig and plastic, ratsos, and spoons are tough to beat early. And for the most part, we get a mixed bag of crappies, gills, and perch. Very rarely just crappies.

Id just love to live in a place where there was enough walleyes to be a ‘target’ species. They are bonus fish around here!

Deal didnt work out with mark, no problems, just too far for him to come get it. If anyone has any interest in working something out, please let me know.

I have a vented furnace too. My first choice was floor heat, but couldnt quite swing it after building the garage. I have a 125k btu furnace vented out the wall, 26x44x10 and it takes no time to go from 40 degrees to 70. I considered infrared too, but nobody locally would install them with less than a 12 ft ceiling. I park my plow trucks in there, and have a lot of combustibles with lawn mowers, gas cans, snowblowers, etc, and they simply wouldnt put in the infrared.

Calvin has it right, IMO. I have an 05 Duramax and I did get 17.5mpg one time unloaded, highway. Pulling I get 10-12, if Im lucky. Last truck was a 6.0 Ford Diesel. While it did a little better mileage than the Chevy, it was never over 18, and didnt have the power.
If you are getting around 12 or so with a 3/4 ton gas, I dont think you can complain. Thats pretty decent. Go test drive a diesel, then you can spend an extra 10 grand right out of the hole!

Ill second this. We showed up at the island at 645 on Thursday nite, fished til 830 and had well over 100 yellows. Most are in the 8 inch range, but we did have a half dozen at 11 inches. We were just wading, and throwing 1/16 oz jigs/twisters, no need for bait.

Good ideas, check the coil maybe too. Sometimes when they get hot is when it fails.

Keep in mind, many times everyone is having pretty good luck. So spirits are up, nobody has ever gotten mad at me for being too close, or swiping their honey hole. I think if you just be polite, you wont have too much trouble with the traffic.

I dont fish Rathbun much, but in July/August, try trolling those same baits in 3-8fow. I know it sounds ridiculous, but many times thats where the fish are at Rathbun in the hot months. Just try it this summer, I would almost guarantee success.

Not a Vortec. Vortecs were after the TBI engine which is what you have in an 89. 96 was the first year for the Vortec in full size Chevys.

Gotcha, so when that happens, I assume it usually comes with a rise in the river level?

So are you hoping for muddy water? Our ice went completely bad in the last 3 days, not much left that is fishable. So Im going to need something to do for the next 6 weeks, it will probably be day trips to Pool 4, so keep us in the loop as the fishing picks up.

Thanks guys. Is there anybody on here that does reproductions? My buddy is going to get one of the perch he got, and for the life of me, I cant remember where I had mine repro done. Seems like Northern MN, and they shipped it to me?
