What the hell happened to all those who were wishing/hoping for high water so they could get on that great bite that goes with it? Think you boys have it bad? My rig hasn’t seen water since December 2013. Because of the high water we have no open ramps unless you want to drag your boat over 5+ miles of dirty dusty gravel roads to a mud ramp and maybe, just maybe you will have a spot within a 300yd walk to park in. Yeah, you got it bad. Cry me a river.

The local geese are picking and cleaning their nesting areas. Buzzards have been here for a couple weeks. Maples and willows will likely be starting to sprout leaves around the end of the week. The maple buds look to want to burst now. That has more to do with hours and strength of sunlight than temps. Frost is still pushing my canopy stakes out so it’s not gone yet, but enough has left to let the water sink into the soil. Fields are starting to dry on top. Catfish are still lethargic but starting to follow the shad to the shallower bars and flats on sunny days. Rivers are muddy and swift as usual and only going to get worse as the north melts. Sure sucks to live at the lower end of the sewer pipe. Tell your friend to stay in God’s country Mossy.
March 23, 2014 at 4:30 am #1398348As soon as the river opens up. Been going for 2 weeks down here on 18.
January 17, 2014 at 10:43 am #1380549I hope those who diss the EPA and the clean water act remember what is being written in this thread.
December 1, 2013 at 3:22 am #1367747Our bait shop in Lansing in the 60’s and 70’s was open 24hrs a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. Because that’s when people fished.
November 12, 2013 at 10:08 pm #1205548Don’t use a gps. A gps puts everybody in my front yard. 6 times in the past 2 years.
June 6, 2013 at 9:11 pm #1176185Poor baby. You really have it bad.
All our ramps to the river have been locked out since late march.March 29, 2013 at 9:35 pm #1157442You call them ‘hillbillies’, I would call them ‘wise’.
You’re the ones who packed up and left, leaving the area to them.March 5, 2013 at 2:29 pm #1148567Then I’d just stay behind ‘ethel’ knowing I’ll still get where I’m going in due time and in one piece. A few of us can still remember what it was like to drive in the winter before we could afford anything with 4 wheel drive. Some of those habits don’t leave.
March 5, 2013 at 1:49 pm #1148533White knuckled drivers? Are you sure about that?
What the hell is wrong with driving in a safe manner for you and your vehicle Mr. Insurance Man?
If you guys are in such a hurry to get somewhere on days like this, leave home earlier.February 27, 2013 at 7:30 pm #1115006Sooooo, what happens when it’s shut down for maintenance?
What happens when the power goes out for whatever reason?November 17, 2012 at 2:01 pm #1113002If you are talking about the upper miss. fish and wildlife refuge system, you are correct.
Where I’m located, south of the refuge system, I’m correct. Backed by a call to my local CO last night. The only reason I posted is because I still use a pistol to dispatch fur in my traps which consists of shooting over open water, no matter the distance.November 9, 2012 at 10:25 pm #1111044Way to go boys. now you’re gonna have all those darned iowa guys coming up to pool 2 and camping out on all the hot spots.
Nice fish Jon.
Anybody seen dee zee around? Kinda miss him.October 17, 2012 at 12:57 am #1105608Randy, I was talking about when there is no or little moisture in the ground, the cold/frost goes deep causing water mains to freeze and burst.
October 16, 2012 at 9:50 pm #1105554Plan on some very deep frost and the problems that go with it if you don’t some sub-soil moisture or a deep snow pack this winter.
September 15, 2012 at 11:29 am #1099002You’d have to go back a long long way in time to find the origin of most of those named places. You’ll find that a lot people lived on the high ground in the river proper before the coe forced them out with the lock and dam system Those same people named most of those places or those places were named for.
I’d be interested in the 90 yr old guy’s reaction when you tell him the name “Minn. Slough”, which he’s been fishing his whole life, just don’t cut it anymore and you want to rename it.August 22, 2012 at 8:01 pm #1094137Hey gamblin man! You already lost your wife’s house on another thread. Be carefull.
August 17, 2012 at 3:34 pm #1092936Still too slow to catch sheep eh?
Well, one good thing about Iowa, at least they don’t have any “I’m in charge here” folks walking around on their elbows with both middle fingers up their whatzit claiming they know what’s best for the AIS issue.
Any success stories about that yet?August 17, 2012 at 8:58 am #1092829Still collecting unused sears catalogs for a while yet. But don’t tell anyone.
August 15, 2012 at 9:19 pm #1092361Buzz, just exactly how long do you think that water stays in your motor? Just a couple seconds is my guess. Not enough to heat it to kill. Hold your hand under your pisser. Is that hot enough to kill zebs?
Editors note; the second to last sentence opened the door to public comment. Have at it boys and girls.
