Nice! How long did it take to thaw that puppy out? I’ve got one just like it in my freezer. Always have bought and cooked right away, but like you found a great price and jumped on it.

Overnight is the best way for great brisket!

Leave the locator factory wiring intact and use your heavy guage wire from locator connector to the battery.

Most gun shops will not let you come in alone and shoot their guns unless you already have a gun, permit to carry or permit to purchase. So you may want to start with that process first. I ran into this issue a few months back. Never considered it until they explained it.

Noco jump staters are pretty nice. They were just on sale for Cyber Monday.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on the topic and working through the obvious things with the time and dollars in the fund. Jeff Sturgis, Whitetail Habitat Solutions has a lot of material on YouTube, books and he also does consulting. Have learned a lot from his material.

As Randy brings up, many of the things you are doing are for your kid’s and grandkids. With that kind of time horizon, you can’t keep redoing things as you learn. With the profit of a timber harvest you can recoup the cost of one these guys to give you another perspective on your property.

In my case, I do want to do a timber harvest and that area will likely become the next sanctuary/bedding area. With several choices on my property to do that, I would like to bounce ideas off of someone that has thought through these trade offs more than I have. I can always learn a new trick!

I don’t have any experience with him. If you decide to go that way I would be interested in hearing how it goes. I’ve considered something like this. In addition to whitetails, I would like to cover grouse, turkey and just healthy timber management are all of interest to me.

I’m beginning to think I should be shopping for trucks at the public access instead of the dealership! 🤣.

Being a key minimalist, few keys on the ring as possible, I don’t mind carrying them. Have Ford and use the keypad a lot to open up the door when the keys are inside the house. Keys have a spot in the glove box in the boat. Hunting is jacket weather so plenty of pockets. Only time I will lock the keys in is if someone is picking up the truck and I need to leave the keys for them.

Turkey skin really isn’t as good as chicken skin. So keep your expectations in check. I did mine spatchcocked this year and cooked it 1hr at 180F for high smoke and then bumped it up to 350F to cook fast, keep it moist and crisp up the skin. Very happy with the results.

I don’t reload, but I shoot exclusively Barnes VOR-TX solid copper with excellent results.

Don’t forget the Breckinridge distillery tour and tasting! If they are allowing right now.

I’m not caught up in the scent killer products but I do wash all my hunting gear in a non scented UV killer soap. I believe UV killer keeps the “glow” off you clothing.

I have started to do this too. I don’t know for sure that the UV is an issue, but I bought a bottle of the detergent several years ago and still working it. I have never used scent killer in my 45 years of hunting. I’m sure there have been times when it impacted me, but it’s far and few times. Dad always smoked while he hunted, he shot a lot of nice deer.

What Tom says above is true. I think if you spend more time in your woods the deer aren’t as disturbed when you show up in Nov. They become a little desensitized to your presence. At least that’s what I’ve been telling my wife every time I want to go hang out in the woods through out the year! 😉

I have one. I like the personal pace. Don’t let the single stage fool you. It throws snow better than my older two stage. Handles the end of driveway great. I recommend

I put Skotty flush mounts on my aluminum boat back when drilling holes in it was nerve racking. I’m happy with the way the look when capped and the way they work.

Very dependent on how you use your truck.

I’ve had a Suburban, topper and now a tonneau cover. Don’t miss the topper. Visibility is better with the tonneau, never need to take it off to load tall items, can use the loader on the tractor to load heavy items, easily have loads of dirt and mulch dumped in. I REALLY don’t miss crawling around under the topper. They both have their place and with 2 pages of responses, hopefully you can identify the things you will haul to make your choice. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. Confirms what I have been thinking. Quit buying blaze orange clothing that only gets used a handful of times a year.

I would like to revive this old thread as I’m considering an upgrade to my hunting wardrobe and found this while searching for ideas.

What I’m look for… MN deer season (blaze orange) and spring turkey (camo). Both can bring wide temperatures. I have cheaply limped my way through these seasons for years with minimal investment as I struggle to justify the large expense for clothing that I only wear a handful of times each year. My current situation is large, heavy and bulky. I’m getting old enough to dread walking and climbing stands in that stuff.

You guys were talking about Sitka and Kuiu in this thread. The lines are always changing names, so may not be relevant.

Grouse, did you buy a new system that you recommend? Anyone have a good solution for putting a blaze orange cover over a good camo layer? That would get me double the use of the clothing.

    Thanks

I get attacked by porcupines every year. I have three that hang in the oaks where I deer hunt…I learned the hard way to look up before climbing that stand.

If you like the you are hunting in, you may want to “remove” those porcupine. The can kill a tree pretty quickly.

If you have a Humminbird linked up, you should be able to to record the track on there with your big motor and then follow that track with your troller later. Likely requires a Helix or better.

    Well this thread went a way I didn’t expect…

So, did anyone bid on anything?

What kind of discussion are you leading here BK? WOW! 😳

Anyways, I looked at the items but nothing at a price that I thought was worth buying based on the photos available.

I’m sure momma is happy when you have to buy back the stuff they took when you broke the laws. I’m all for nailing these guys as hard as possible.

    ^^^ what he said!

Break the law, pay a price. I’m happy they auction the stuff off and get something out of it. Don’t most police departments destroy the guns they confiscate?

I think the dealers get in early and make sure there is a solid min bid on anything of value.

Always kind of surprises me when used stuff sells on an auction for more than I can buy new. I think there are some folks who get caught up in the excitement of an auction and lose sight of the value of the item. Likely a similar tendency that emptys savings accounts at casinos.

I got my 336 in 1976. Still has open sights. I’ve still shot more deer with that gun than any other that I own!

Most of the tractors that I operate (old ones) only have rear brakes. So if that’s your case, remember that the only thing that will stop you after you lose traction is the loader.

What is the lake bottom like 12ft from shore? If your tires sink into sand you may have a tough time pulling it out even with a tractor.

Are you talking about a real tractor or one of those cute SCUTs? No offense, but this isn’t a job for one of those 20hp oversized lawnmowers. 😉. 4wd on the tractor? Make sure you have enough rear ballast on the tractor.

It should be possible. I have the side and high speed on mine and I know that you can do the dual si. When I set mine up, I had the choice to use the networked transducer on my Terrova or either of the other transducers connected. You should be able to try it out before you install. Just power up the additional 9si with the hs and second si and start playing. Should be able to get it working before you ever commit to pulling a wire. For each unit you choose the transducer you want to use.

I don’t skimp on my trailer tires. I’m certain there are good lower cost tires available, but it’s worth an hundred to reduce the risk of having issues going on vacation. That time is too precious to me.
