    Hey all,
Thanks for all the input from everyone!!! I think I’m going to go with John23’s solution. I like the “winterize and forget about it” solution…. No wondering or fretting about, not remembering this or that…
    Thanks again to all!

    Hey tom mac,
I’m trying to envision what fishing in waders and turbines running at the dam would be like – it seems to need some explaining from an experienced guy…
How deep is the water? Does everyone wade or are there boats to dodge? What techniques do you use? Do you use meat or artificials? This sounds like it could be a ton of fun. Is the river fishable all year or is this a springtime thing?
I told my brother I was checking this out on IDA fishing site and would have some good input for him.. He was very happy to hear it. He has 4 small kids and doesn’t get out much. Maybe he can take them fishing when they get a little older.
    Anyway, thanks for the info…

Flathead 100 thanks for the reply! So, i’m thinking…waders! Does that mean not much for boat traffic or not much water at normal flow… In either case it does sound promising! Thaks again..

    Hey guys,
I think I may not have explained my question correctly… I thought “Long lining” was casting a jig and bringing it back slowly, in the right place without getting snagged. Maybe it is called something else. I didn’t mean trolling.
I think that a “dumb question” is one that isn’t asked.
    Thanks,
    Noel

    Well sa,
I guess I meant “larger quantities” to be more than the 4 ounce jars that are sold with the jig paints… I haven’t checked but I’m betting the lacquer thinner is sold in pints and quarts or even gallons.
    Thanks and tight lines,

    Briank,
Gosh, I’m sorry if I offended you with what I thought was a friendly jab about you and the game of golf…I was not aware that you were so dead against it!!!
Having said that, I’m just a regular guy who works in a factory and operates a machine for money to support his family – hardly “elitist” by my definition of the “upper crusty one’s “.
    Anyway, please accept my apology.
    Thanks and tight lines,

This is me when my ball goes farther than that big clod of dirt…. I think the reason the announcers whisper is their wives don’t know what they’re doing in those blasted tents…kinda like those armchair quarterbacks, they play a great game without ever getting their hair messed up, etc,…

    Hi Brian,
I was really surprised – not even a bait stealing dink…Maybe they found out I’ve been checking out the kinds of bait to use for catfishing (Bluegill) and are steering clear of me!
Anyway, good to hear from you also.

    Hello Jason,
Horseshoe Lake is south of the parking lot midway between Iowa and Wisconsin when you cross over at Marquette,Iowa.

Thanks guys! Herb how do you put those guts on a hook? Seems to me that when you would try to cast – the guts would go one way and the hook would go the other way?
Maybe you can shed some light on this…

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about tusseling with some of those whiskered creatures and was looking for Iowa specific waters. You’re right Regional is just fine.

Hello and Congratulation!, Joe and MOSTLY Lori ,
Sounds like everyone is doing fine… Lori looks pleased and relieved at the same time. Xaiver looks like he is trying to decide if he should throw a ringworm or start with a deep diver. I also have three boys and they do grow up fast! Joe if you get a day off mid-week,you can PM me and maybe we could give those eyes a chase.
    AGAIN, CONGRATS!!!

    Hey Mile 832,
Thanks for the info. I’ll have to check that book out. I have a couple more questions – How soon do you start fishing after ice out? Do you start with cut bait or stink bait?
    Thanks,
    Noel

    Hey mossydan,
Thanks for the info. My neighbor said when he was younger he fished the Maquoketa and was surprised at the quality of fish in that small river. This and you making reference to it makes me want to check it out… Have you actually fished it?
    Thanks,
    Noel

    HEY MOSSYDAN,
EXCELLENT REPORT… I HAD HEARD OF THE FISHING POTENTIAL IN THESE SMALL WATERS – YOU JUST GOT ME FIRED UP. SOUNDS AS THOU YOU WOULD NEED A “PUT IN” PLACE AND A “TAKE OUT” PLACE IF YOU HAD A CANOE OR SMALL BOAT.
NOT HAVING FISHED THESE WATERS ARE THERE SOME SPOTS WHERE YOU CAN JUST WADE AND FISH UPSTREAM OR DOWNSTREAM THAT ARE NOT TO HARD TO FIND? SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING I MIGHT TRY ON A DAY OFF FROM WORK…
    THANKS AND TIGHT LINES.

    Gianni,
Thanks for checking! Was the reply an e-mail or a paper copy? The reason I ask is, if you post the reply so I can make a copy of it from my computer I would be able to have it to show if and when I may be in that situation…
    Thanks!
