I will agree with dan on them making up reasons to pull you over. I was pulling the boat from the campground on ann lake up 47 about 2 months ago to the pond. About halfway inbetween i got pulled over. I know i wasnt speeding as i had the cruise set at 55 and the cop got to my window and asked if i knew why he was pulling me over. I said no and he said you were going 68 in a 55 ill be right back. Knowing he couldnt give me a speeding ticket he came back after checking my record( clean) and siad im going to give you a warning have a good day and good luck fishing. There was no point to pull me over im guessing they just get bored up there just like woodbury cops and will pul you over for looking at them! As far as the drunk driving just dont do it

Go deep. Most of the bass if not all i catch in the summer are in 15+ fow. I search for deep weedlines, main lake sunken islands, underwater points, and fish cribs. Depending on the depths i like to run the rap dt series in a baitfish pattern that matches the forage in the lake and depth range i am fishing. I also run a carolina rig with a lizard. But my all time fovorite is a small mushroom head jig with a 7 in culprit worm finessed back to the boat.Slow rolling spinnerbaits can also be very effective.

If you dont mark fish on the spot dont fish. Search and locate a school before wetting a line. Bass tend to school in the summer so if you get 1 make sure to pick the spot apart!

vermillion would be my first choice if pannies and pike are #1 and leech would be #2.

    my top 5 are
    1: lake of the woods
    2: mille lacs lake
    3: Vermilion lake
    4: Rainy lake
    5: Leech lake

Saw quite a few over the weeend. I personaly think alot of them are from the launch boats just plopping them back over the side. Every fish caught in our boat this weekend was revived until they went down strong. Seen a 29.5 up on the flats struggling to go down so we pulled up to her and tried to get her to go back but she wouldnt!

Did you put this fish in your limit or let her sink ?

We didnt keep her. She was still kicking when we left her and i wouldnt feel right keeping a fish i didnt catch big or not. She kept trying to go down and would make it 5-10 ft down and come back up and do it again. We didnt have any keepers in the boat or even plan on keeping fish. didnt even bring a fillet knife on the trip so we didnt have a way to clean her.

Check out zipple bay on lake of the woods. Just got back last night from a long weekend up there and had a blast. They run charters to take you out fishing but the also rent boats and even a pontoon! Excelent food at the bar and it is a family based resort not just fishing. they have a pool, canoes/paddleboats to putz around the bay in! I have been to the resort 6 or 7 times( 3 this year) and have never thought of going anywhere else on the mn side of lake of the woods…

Check them out you wont be dissapointed

I ran a 30 ft 8 lb flouro leader over the weekend at 1.8-2.2 mph and a few times ticked the bottom in 29 fow.

I ran 4 to 5 colors depending on the lures i was using at the time.

Leadcore is very speed dependent the faster your going the higher your bait runs the slower you go the deeper it will get

Run lead is all i have to say if you have the set ups. caught 3 on spinners over the weekend and 1 on a bobber. 47 fish boated saturday and 27 on sunday all on leadcore either on the gravel or out in no mans land in the basin!

I pulled up to hunters yesterday and got some food and got in the lake at their little sand beach.Had the dog in the boat and she wanted to go for a swim also!

Seems like for $10 it shouldnt just fall apart like they do.

Ouch! Where the heck are you finding your shad raps for $10 a piece? Fleet Farm had them on sale last week for $4.99.

Im talking raps in general. The only ones ive purchased recently and no longer own due to breaking were clacklin raps and x rap shads and both of those are around $10. I havent bought a normal shad rap since the flicker shads came out.On the croix last year i got a clacklin rap in a tree(not even deep) with a quick easy snap and it completelly ripped the hook assembly out of the lure. I still feel for the price even on sale this shouldnt happen. Alot better things to spend money on then lures every week!

And thats the reason you will not find a rapala in any of my boxes. They are junk. I,ve had that happen before, bills falling off, hooking tiny pike on floaters and they just rip the wire from the middle of the lure. Seems like for $10 it shouldnt just fall apart like they do. If they didnt fall apart i would gladly spend $10-$20 a lure but thats just not for me when i have to buy 5 of the same 1 because i dont know if 1 will break. I stick with the flicker shads and bagley top guns!

How bout we all just relax. It seems that if anyone has an opinion other than sending a guy to some well know spot, you just want to kick him out? I dont personally know this freeman dude but his advice was logical and informative. Seems to me you few sorry fellas get all hurt from someone not throwing a steak on someones plate…as for anyones g-pa goes, he would have prolly done the same thing as mfreeman451. Ever tried asking an old timer where to fish?? My guess is not

Give this guy a break and just enjoy learning on your own. That is part of the fun right?…am i right?

Is there a like button!!! I personaly take most information given on the internet with a grain of salt unless its from a reliable source. To many people out there that will steer people in the wrong direction just to keep” their” secret spot a secret.Yes those kind of people are out there and im sure are on this site as well as others so saying he should go to lake-link was ignorant. I personaly would of and have before mentioned the dnr lakefinder and the recieving party was thankful for it because they didnt have a clue about it and is actualy more informative to me than someone just giving me a lake name.

Lake x has good bass fishing, but the dnr lake finder says lake y has a very good year class from 2003-2007 with alot of fish with an average size of 3.6 lbs and was stocked the past 12 years. Which seems more informative to you????

I havent been down yet this year but heres whats worked in years past. I dont troll the can line until around opener. I run lindy rigs with floating jigs in the small channel that runs up along the wi shoreline right behind the boats. That can be lights out at times early in the year. Its about 10 ft from shore. If that doesnt work for me i fish the deep hole off the unmarked wing dam. If nothing jig and minnow right in the entrance to the marina. But my go to is to drag a 3 way with a red hook and minnow right behind all the boats at the confluence. I keep as close as i can without hitting them! Ive had 3 people in the boat fishing 2 rods a peice and all rods hooked up within 30 seconds of eachother.

    Good luck

Up where we hunt the deer feed on sugar beets, corn, soy beans, wheat, alfalfa and rape seed. Our deer dont really have a venison taste to it. The only reason i tried it was because my dad runs the meat dept for the corperate cub foods around the cities, he got the marinade as a sample to try up north while we were hunting. When we got home we tried it on the back strap and it was very good. Up until now ive just season salted and peppered it and thrown it on the grill. I will continue to do both!!

I cut the strap into 2 peices. I will then make a marinade consisting of rent a chef marinade, frech minced garlic, parmesan cheese, worchestershire sauce, hot sauce, lawrys and pepper and food saver it. let marinade for 24 hrs and then throw it on the grill and enjoy!

For jigging i would go with 8 lb test fireline crystal. I like to run a small barrel swivel to a 8 lb flouro leader!

For set lines or bobbers you can do the same for a better hookset in deeper water but i run 6 or 8 lb berkely vanish!

I use pool noodles cut to the size of the storage bin theyre going in! I hook the noodle then wrap around and stick a small nail through the loop to keep it on the noodle! Works pretty nice except i fish alot of different lakes so i have many and it takes up alot of extra room!

2 weekends ago we got 23 channels in 8 hours of fishing. this was on pool 3. we used chicken livers, fresh shrimp, garlic hot dogs, and crawlers. we set up on the back side of an island that was off the main channel with slower current than the main river. some stumps under us but not to many. we anchored the boat in 8 fow and were casting into about 10 or 12 fow. most hits almost pulled the walleye poles in the river so they were agressive! i would assume the same baits and spots would work down that far!

    good luck,

i head up on walleye opener every year. i keep in touch with some of the guides throughout the year. all that ive heard is that it has been tough. no real stable weather pattern for the fish to get used to.so they are scattered! look up a couple guides phone numbers and give them a call they should be willing to share a little bit of info.

    good luck!
