Someone else mentioned that to me. But I didn’t see it in the installation instructions. Why does it have to be 3′ away?

Sorry I should have stated its a Lowrance LCX-28C HD. It is going to be a bear to install it any where else beside the console (the way my boat is setup), but I want it to work well. Thanks for the replies

I appreciate everybodys advice. Unfortunatley I haven’t found a dealer within 300 miles of me that has one of these in stock. I was able to look at a similar models with out the tunnel hull though….and I found a dealer that seems somewhat knowledgeable and willing to work with me. I have spoke with others that say setup and weight distribution is key to getting the best performance. Now I am leaning towards the 17′ model in a center console version. The center console boat weighs more than tiller model, but I can increase HP and it should help distribute weight better. Thanks again. Keith

Thanks for the replys. I was able to speak with the gentleman from Alumacraft that designed the tunnel hull for them, and he said their tunnels are not designed for jets….and to only run a prop motor. He did say they had some issues in the early years, but nothing in the last 10 years or so (especailly after they put “prop motor only” in the specs). One dealer I spoke with had nothing but bad things to say about the tunnels, and wouldn’t even give me quote on one. Some of the reading I have done mentioned drawbacks such as: problems trying reverse, reduced top speed, poor steering control or skipping, cavitation, and the need for specially cupped props. When I spoke with the Alumacraft engineer he said they never encounter any of those problems in their testing, and their tests were conducted with stock motors (in hole #2) and stock props. When I asked him about possible drawbacks he said the only things are extra price (which isn’t a concern if it gives me what I want) and maybe 1 mph lost on top speed. He did strongly recommend sponsons though. So with the conflicting information I just want to make sure of what I am getting before I spend the $$$. I am leaning towards the 1650AW model with a 40hp fourstroke tiller (which is the max hp on that boat model). That should be enough power shouldn’t it? When you’re talking about slipage in rough water are you talking about the prop? and by rough water do mean windy day chop on the river or rollers on a lake? Thanks again. Keith

I just got a 05 navigator 165cs with a 90hp yamaha 4stroke, and I am only able to get 36-38 mph gps. Maybe I need a different prop. What do you guys think?

I have a 2005 yamaha 90hp 4 stroke and the maximum rpms on it is 6000.

I went out to Michigan last year about this time fished the Pier Marquett(sp) for steel head….man what a blast. Those steelhead sure can fight, and when they hit you better have a good hold on the rod. I tried some spinners & cranks but really only caught fish on spawn bags rigged on a three-way set up. They said I was alittle early last year for the big run but I wasn’t disappointed. Let us know how you do.

Alvinmack is right on about the weatherby’s….although most won’t notice their inadequacies in the accuracy dept. unless your a bench shooter.

I’ll admit I have sentlok clothing that covers me from head to toe…But I was having some beverages with a guy who works for sentlok one night….and he explained to me that the clothing does work, but by the time the end user gets it all the activated carbon is used up and placing them in the dryer really doesn’t do much.
Funny what a person will tell you when they have had too much to drink

    Hi Jonb
Plainfield is the only place to take a boat out that I know of. I did that strecth a couple years ago. Started in the early morning darkness and finished in the dark (long float)
The fishing wasn’t really all that great either. Let us know how you do. Good luck

    Hi there Captain Anchor,
I believe that I saw you there on Sunday. I was in the boat with a faulty trolling motor. We didn’t fair too well that day (5 smallies biggest 15″)but it is pretty hard to catch fish when your only means of boat control is a 3ft stick you retreived off the bank.
The week prior however I did pretty good below Charles City.
    I had 8 walleyes 15-19 inches and 3 smallies over 16 inches.
All the fish that day came on jigs (mostly 5″ k-grubs)fishing the back side of holes like the face of a wingdam.
I’ll probably try it again this weekend…I hope this cold weather doesn’t shut the fish down.

I am not sure about the tungstun as I have never used it….But the hevi-shot by Remington is well worth the money in my opinion.

I have a half german short hair and half chocolate lab that I got for free, and he has turned out to be the best dog I have ever hunted behind. He points pheasants and retrieves ducks…. What more could a guy ask for? He puts all the other high dollar dogs I have had to shame.

I have heard some reliable reports of nice walleyes being caught trolling jointed shad raps behind boards and night.

One thing for sure…you can bet on it being a zoo.
I was there 3 weeks ago and it was almost un-fishable with all the boat traffic and idots running right over my lines…as if they didn’t have a whole lake to tear around on.
Good thing I had a few frosty friends to calm my nerves

Yep I have fished them both….not this year though. 3 mile is a nice little lake with niced sized walleyes, crappies, and, bluegills with the panfish being targeted by most fishermen. Although a couple of years ago I caught I 7# walleye trolling crank baits there. Sorry I haven’t heard any accurate reports from this year.
12 mile I believe is in the process of being killed off due to over population of yellow bass. Atleast that is the rumor I have heard.
Hope this helps alittle I am sure someone else will have better info

Thanks for the reply guys….sorry I didn’t see them until I returned home. Didn’t have as much time to fish as I hoped, but did managed a few eater size walleye and 20 or so nice crappies. Never fished over by lakewoods, but I did make it there for breakfast(walleye and eggs)boy was it good. Sure is beautiful country up there can’t wait to get back when I have more time.

    Hello Primitive man,
I floated that stretch last summer and if memory serves me correctly it took me about 7 hours, but the river was really low then and I usually pick an area over pretty good before I leave it. The river holds some really nice structure through there that I have caught alot of nice fish off of. Good luck and let us know how you do.

I have a 55lb. on the front and a 36lb. on back of my 16 ft. The 36lb. does a fine job on my boat, but I probably would have gone bigger if I had bought it brand new. It never hurts to have alittle more power. One thing I would suggest for you to do…. is to turn the head around 180 degrees. This allows you to use the forward speeds instead of reverse when holding the back of the boat into the wind or current…..it makes for alot easy boat control

    Matt,
I have used both cable and powerdrive models from minnkota. I perfer the powerdrive because when working a shoreline the motor wont change directions when you take your foot off the pedal, which enables me to move around the boat, re-tie, or do whatever and still keep the boat on coarse. It is also pretty handy that you can drag the foot pedal to anywhere in the boat if you want to. In my expirence with cable drives the minute you take your foot of the pedal the motor turns and your heading in a differnt direction than you want to be (especially in rivers with strong current). The powerdrive is less responsive than the cable drive, but I have a transom mount trolling motor that I use when vertical jigging or in extremely windy conditions.
    Hope this helps
