So who here trap’s under the ice for muskrat’s? And what is your favorite set for them.
Mine is the runs into the bank when you can find them or some apples or carats on a 110.

Have not done it in years !!! I do remember sets being done, right next to poles for the dock or any structure froze in the ice. Then as kids, we would find a rat under the ice, get him between our skates and “steer” him into the trap…funny, but they would think they were caught between the blades… rat on a rail !!!

Find the runs in the frozen river/lake by looking for the air bubbles. Use a standard #1 leghold trap, set in front of the hole, place 4-5 small sticks vertical in front of the trap. The rats put on the brakes, and snap.

Stools if you can’t find the runs.

under the ice, I stay away from the bank holes, until I have a good number of the rats caught that I want. If you plug up a hole with a catch right away, they can get very spooky. It is fun, been 3 years since I been on the marsh, but took over 500 that year.
