Hey! Looking for recommendations for a trip to Alaska. A few details.
    1. We’re flying in and out of Anchorage and then renting an RV, so we can pretty much go anywhere in the state that’s road accessible
    2. We’ll be bringing medium to heavy spinning tackle
    3. Not too picky of what we’d like to target; just would like to experience good fishing for any type of Salmon or trout species (or even a grayling, pike, etc).

Any suggestions of where to go? We do have a salmon / halibut charter out of Valdez august 16th but other than that have nothing else specific planned. Also would happily take advice if you have a must have bar, restaurant, town, etc to visit.

This place is a good source for what the best charter boats are doing out of Seward.

If you are looking to catch salmon you might want to bring heavier tackle. I brought a 7′ heavy rod with a Ambassador 6500 and 65lbs braid and that wasn’t heavy enough for sockeye in the river. We fished the Kenai but at a private resort so it wasn’t combat fishing. That was a ton of fun to catch salmon at.

We really liked the town of Soldotna on the way down to Homer. I wish I could give you more detail, but that was a long time ago.

AlagnakPete might be able to help. He knows a thing or two about Alaska, but he might be guiding up there right now and not see this.

Try to book a charter out of Seward for Salmon/Halibut & rock fish. Very beautiful scenery. And there is fish processing at JDock. Can freeze your fish and overnight ship it when you get home. That’s where I caught the Yellow-eye in my profile pic.

GO Halibut fishing, any fish you have to shoot to bring aboard is worth catching. it’s on my bucket list. DK.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. We’re doing a full day of Halibut / Salmon out of Valdez and I’m assuming any charter out of Seward would be amazing but pretty much the same experience. Let me know if you think I’m off on that.

My experience at Valdez is a long boat ride to get halibut. My brother goes out of Homer and does real good.
If you get near Manley Hot Springs find a guide to take you to Fish Creek. We had lots of fun casting for pike. All day action. Have fun catching silver salmon.
