I have a question on cast nets on the St. Croix.

Can a WI resident obtain the permit needed? Most of what I’ve read relates to this being legal in MN. But can a non-resident get this MN permit and use it on the MN side of the Croix?

Am I correct that WI does not offer a cast net license/permit?

Eric – The MN Cast Net Permit Program is handled by Sean Sisler at the MN DNR. You can reach him at 651-259-5213 or email him at [email protected]

Sean can answer all your question about the cast net program as he is the one who issues the permits. Good luck

Let us know what you find out about a Non resident.

WI doesn’t allow or offer a cast net permit. We can not us a cast net on the WI side of the ‘sip or St Croix Rivers.

Ok, I got the scoop from Mr. Sisler.

WI residents can apply for the cast net license after taking the same AIS class and, the kicker, you must have a MN fishing license.

A better answer than I might have been expecting. I bought the MN license this year for P2 and Mille Lacs so I’m good.

Now to get me a net!! smash toast

One piece of information I forgot to add. The nets can only be used on the MN side of the river, they cannot be used on the WI side.
