Smelt

    I know the ice season is a ways away yet, but I’m wondering if anyone knows where to get smelt in the twin cities. I know some grocers have it, but they aren’t the whole smelt. Anyone have any suggestions?

    You can only use smelt form a VHS free certified bait dealer. No grocery store stuff. Vados is a good place to check.

    There are 2 asian food markets off 13 in Savage. The one farther to the east usually has 2-3 pound bags of decent sized ones for like $10, individually frozen in the bag not one big ball- and yes, guts are in. I always bring some with for a smelt fry when I go ice fishing or in case my ice fishing cat gets hungry.

    Right. Because we don’t have gills. (yet)
